Do you still love 'The Thick of It' (BBC) as much as I do?!

I love watching The Thick of it over and over and over again! Does anyone else?!

My favourite character is Julius Nicholson closely followed by Glenn Cullen.
One of my favourite Julius scenes is when he is feeding the ducks with Steve Fleming. One of my favourite Glenn scenes is when he completely loses it (justifiably) with the coalition and says 'I will lamp you with a lamp'!
I just love this show so much, it never fails to make me laugh and picks me up when I'm down!

TinselTitsMcTree, and when they are doing the 20 Questions game - the cut to a eternally disappointed Mannion saying, "Am I supply side economics?"

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 03/01/2020 08:26

Peter Man-Yum Grin

I loved the moment when Ollie (looks like a Quentin Blake drawing) put on the Peter face mask to taunt Terri. "Oh, Terri, me beauty, I like the heft of your jib! Oh dear, I'm going all boogie-woogie downstairs!"

AnduinsGirl · 03/01/2020 08:30

Bloody love this, have watched both series several times!
"Well, er, Rajesh-Raj...."

Almahart · 03/01/2020 08:31

Ooh me too!! It’s it my go to comfort watch.

The Death of Stalin is absolutely brilliant too

AnduinsGirl · 03/01/2020 08:33

One of my favourite moments is when Ben gets into the taxi after that terrible interview and Jamie says “you don’t deserve to live”!
Omg yes this, and when they're prepping for the interview and Ben's giving a typically dither answer. "oh just answer the question you fat fuck!" Poor Ben's look of hurt bewilderment!!

flopsytheflatcat · 03/01/2020 08:37

It's the best show ever made!

BangingOn · 03/01/2020 08:55

I adore The Thick of It and it’s still my go to show to binge watch if I ever get the television to myself for an evening. When I’m working away I look forward to an evening watching it on Netflix in my hotel room, I never get sick of it.

I also have a Tucker’s Law tea towel which I have sadly had to put away as DS has learnt to read Grin

I’ve bored my husband silly since the start of the Brexit campaign and all the political chaos that has followed by saying “they really need Tucker to deal with this” on a weekly basis.

TinselTitsMcTree · 03/01/2020 12:19

😂😂 It's a brilliant episode callistone.

I feel like without Tucker, it wouldn't be what it is but my absolute favourite characters are people like Terri, Mannion, Glenn, Pearson, (Geoff!). They make the show. Less love for Oli. He was too try hard with the humour. Although did provide lots of comedy opportunities for other characters "feet off the furniture you oxbridge twat, you're not on a punt now"

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 03/01/2020 12:41

Oh I love it. Have lost count of the times I've rewatched it. Jamie is just wonderful, when he's on the phone to Malcolm during Ben's disaster interview saying "the cameramen are laughing".To Ollie "Can you handle that fuckwit? CAN YOU FUCKING HANDLE IT?!"
Adore Malcolm too. And julius, "careful you fools! These are good biscuits and they cost four pounds"

midsomermurderess · 03/01/2020 13:53

Eat the cheese, eat the fucking cheese! To man who made the bajhi go away.

DarlingNikita · 04/01/2020 13:17

Less love for Oli. He was too try hard with the humour.
I know what you mean, but isn't that the point? That he IS a try-hard character?

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 04/01/2020 13:38

I quite liked the way Ollie was played and I don't think he was meant to be likeable at all. He was ruthless in his own way, prepared to screw anyone over for his own gain, but less obviously shouty and villainous than Malcolm. Ollie ended up with Malcolm's job, by the end, which I saw as ushering in a sort of more two-faced, less honest way of doing things. You couldn't really have someone like Malcolm stomping around bullying people indefinitely, because he wouldn't have got away with it forever, but I suppose at least people knew where they stood with him. Ollie was a scarier prospect somehow, despite his apparent mild-mannered ways, because he would smile while he was stabbing you in the back.

DarlingNikita · 04/01/2020 15:05

Eoin, I completely agree about Ollie.

Egghead68 · 04/01/2020 20:18

Ollie is supposed to be awful I think. I think he is played brilliantly and is an excellent character. I like all his “Big Ben, benstrual cycle” etc riffs and his interactions with his girlfriend.

Egghead68 · 04/01/2020 20:20

Ollie is much less principled than Malcolm. He has no principles, whereas Malcolm usually acts for what he thinks is the good of the party.

DoTheNextRightThing · 04/01/2020 20:31

One of my faves! At an old job, my colleague and I both stuck Malcolm Tucker quotes to the office wall as inspiration 😂

DoTheNextRightThing · 04/01/2020 20:33

I love Stuart. Yes and Ho!

Teachermaths · 04/01/2020 20:39

I love The Thick of It.

One of my highlights is "he's gone Glental" when Glen has his meltdown.

Also love the carrot and the stick approach.

I agree that Ollie is snidey 2 faced and played very well. At least Malcom you mostly knew where you stood.

Dipsydoodle · 04/01/2020 20:40

I'm in bed re-watching it all. Brilliant. Jamie has just made his entrance!

Andylion · 04/01/2020 21:11

"You're the fucking shittest James Bond ever. You're David fucking Nivenen^."*

mrsmuddlepies · 04/01/2020 21:14

Love it. Intelligent and funny. I love the Awayday episode and the struggle to find a phone signal at the top of the children's playground

Andylion · 04/01/2020 21:17

When I’m working away I look forward to an evening watching it on Netflix in my hotel room, I never get sick of it.

You are so lucky to have it on Netflix. I don't even think it was ever shown in Canada at all and it is definitely not on our Netflix. Years ago, I bought the dvds, one of which was destroyed in a flood. I spent actual, (no exaggeration) years, trying to find replacements, but I could not find the Specials. One day when I checked iTunes, (which I had checked many times before) I saw the whole series available. I bought the whole thing, (you couldn't buy it separately) even thought I didn't need it all.

Best purchaseI I have ever made.

VesperLindt · 04/01/2020 21:39

Best show ever made!! "knowledge is porridge" "about as useful as a marzipan dildo" "you are not a grandee you are a fucking blandee" - the wikiquote page is GOLD and just had me snorting.

TinselTitsMcTree · 04/01/2020 21:51

Yes, good points. Ollie's character was meant to be unlikeable/snakelike.

I'm watching it now on Netflix, thanks to this thread. Just watched the "have you ever cleaned up your mother's piss" episode. When Glenn gives the shouty woman Ollie's number Grin

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 04/01/2020 21:58

Piss woman is currently playing Jan in Casualty!
