Last thread here.

The Glitterball gets ever closer!

Oh yes, EB is very attractive; those twinkly eyes... 🙂

ppeatfruit · 06/12/2019 14:01

That's interesting about Motsi Where's the was she referring specifically to the Alex and Chris DO do you think?

ppeatfruit · 06/12/2019 14:04

Motsi's right, it is brutal and very much based on the judges' opinions not much else.

Wheresthebeach · 06/12/2019 14:10

Yes ppeatfruit she also said it's a double rejection for the couples.

Just saw an a excerpt of an interview with Anton where they asked what he'd do to beat Karim in the final - he said 'lock him in a cupboard'! Grin

Beveren · 06/12/2019 14:18

They did at least one series with no dance-off, didn't they? IIRC, everyone hated it, hence going back to the original system.

ppeatfruit · 06/12/2019 14:20

Oh good one Anton Grin Xmas Grin

ppeatfruit · 06/12/2019 14:29

Beveren I didn't see those (I only got hooked when Harry J was floating around the ballroom ! ). It's the fairness or otherwise of the judgements that gets to me, I still remember that in 2017 there were 3 brilliant women finalists who lost out to a mediocre Joe bloke. I couldn't work out why.

xsquared · 06/12/2019 14:55

I'm sure we had this conversation last year

Reasons for Joe winning were because Alexandra and Debbie were considered ringers, and became unpopular through the series for supposed "drama".

You're going to disagree on this one but I did not think Gemma was a worthy finalist. She was just okay but popular for being "dead normal, I love my food, and secretly shagging Gorks me". I don't know what people saw in her tbh.
Joe's Charleston and show dance were entertaining, but I actually wanted AB to win. Not popular I know, but she was exceptional, and I think it would have been amusing to see the rage from the haters if she did win.

bibliomania · 06/12/2019 15:20

I'd also have liked to see Alexandra Burke win even if I don't necessarily love her as a person. I remember having a pop at her for being overly-dramatic for crying, then someone pointed out that her mother had recently died. I hadn't known and felt awful. I found her dancing really enjoyable to watch.

Wheresthebeach · 06/12/2019 15:51

Debbie was a professional ballet dancer, and her denying that it helped at all was just infuriating. I think that cost her a lot of votes.

NumbersStation · 06/12/2019 16:14

There is no denying that AB was technically good.

But like Karim and quite a few others that are a bit ringery or exceptionally driven, I felt nothing when she danced. I could appreciate it but when I feel nothing then I don’t care about their journey

Likewise with the lovely DM. I liked her dancing but couldn’t love it.

NumbersStation · 06/12/2019 16:19

I couldn’t stand JM in that final either. For the same reason. It was a ruddy awful strictly final for me. Confused

WhichBin · 06/12/2019 17:48

I know what you mean @xsquared I see Chris as the Gemma of the last but one series. Not particularly brilliant but very normal and entertaining. I follow her on Insta and I really like her but should she have been in the final? Nope. I too like AB. She was a bloody good dancer!

TheMustressMhor · 06/12/2019 17:52

And of course Ashley should by rights have won last year, but she had to contend with so much hate online.

It was bizarre, her being in the dance-off so often.

TheMustressMhor · 06/12/2019 17:53

And I agree that Gemma wasn't really up to the final - but there had to be four dancers, so what could they do?

My DH loved her and wanted her to win.

ChessieFL · 06/12/2019 18:39

Numbers who’s JM?

xsquared · 06/12/2019 18:39

They should have kept Aston in!

xsquared · 06/12/2019 18:40

Joe McFadden ChessieFL

NumbersStation · 06/12/2019 18:49

That’s the one Grin

I was sad to see Aston go too.

ChessieFL · 06/12/2019 18:53

Of course xsquared, I’m getting my Joes confused and was thinking of Joe Sugg but of course he was the year after! Doh!

EnidButton · 06/12/2019 19:25

I’m getting my Joes confused and was thinking of Joe Sugg

I did that earlier in the thread. I didn't think much of either of them (dancing wise) so they'd blended in to one person in my memory.

Did anyone watch ITT? Anton agreed that Emma led that Charleston last week. He was quite emotional when he saw his twins onscreen, and he seemed very low key. I think he's taking it all quite seriously. Not one MAH-vellous passed his lips.

MaggieFS · 06/12/2019 20:44

I loved Craig's piece on ITT. Some of those old clips were brilliant to see. What on earth did he do to get that bitter feedback from Jan? (Jan who?)

Encyclo · 06/12/2019 21:21

Jan Ravens, an impressionist. She didn't take well to being voted off and her husband "manhandled" Craig in the bar afterwards apparently

Wheresthebeach · 06/12/2019 21:33

I saw ITT - Anton said Emma led the dance and he was just there to support. Noticed their body language has changed recently, saw her put her hand on top of his when he had his arm around her in a clip of them after the dance last week. Much more relaxed.

I suspect that they are both on the same page now - putting in the hours and happier that they're on a roll. Anton must know he can't have many seasons left at 53.
