Last thread here.

The Glitterball gets ever closer!

i should think Kalvin's final dance will incorporate some press ups!

bookbook · 08/12/2019 10:47

well, I really haven't kept up with the thread , as the last few weeks I have had to watch on catch up.
But - after last night , I definitely think Kelvin should win .
Whether he will or not is anyones guess!
I didn't love Karim's dances last night - I have been a fan , and loved his jive last week , but Kelvin has shown himself to be a really good allrounder , and he does look as if he is really enjoying the dancing :)
For all Chris isn't in the same league , I have enjoyed watching him dance just for the joy he seems to have for it

DarlingNikita · 08/12/2019 10:53

What a lacklustre semifinal.

Emma's cha cha was an honourable effort but didn't suit her. I liked her waltz though.
Kelvin's QS was a bit heavy. Paso was rubbish; that grand jete and particularly the landing and flourish at the end was half-arsed. If you can't do it, don't bother.
Karim's AT was wobbly; he just wasn't framing her securely or dramatically enough. Amy looked fabulous though. His AS was overly cautious and a missed opportunity to show off a bit of his athleticism.
Chris's VW was just him standing and stepping about while Karen flatulated around him (thanks Len for the technical term). And his rumba, I'm sorry, he looked like a boy dancing at the school disco.

Motsi's scoring was fucking nonsensical. What a waste of space she's turned out to be.

Angela Rippon on the Ts and Cs was genuinely one of my favourite bits. What a pro. What an icon.

I think Karim and Chris are in the DO and obviously Chris will be out.

Horsemad · 08/12/2019 10:57

Thanks @unkindnessofravens. 🙂

I'm out tonight, so will watch on catch-up later & hope I don't hear anything beforehand... 🙄

We'll probably be on a new thread by then I should think. We can't half gab on here! 😆

NumbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrsStation · 08/12/2019 11:02

On the strength of last night, I think kelvin is a worthy winner. But I would so like it to be Chris. Smile

I think that Emma and Karim just aren’t that popular and will be on a sticky wicket.

That said the big sticky wicket is the dance ‘choice’ for last night. Like others above have said, Emma and Chris drew the sharny stick ☹️ and as such, I think only Kelvin will be a sure thing for the final. Which is a good thing.

Housework beckons before the nightshift. I’d quite like a wee nap too.

Hurrah because I’m off for the final!

Monsterinmyshoe · 08/12/2019 11:33

Missed out on last nights show, so will be watching on catch up this afternoon.

I did watch Emma and Anton's character change on the BBC homepage though and have to say that Anton looked like a week 1 duffer in that dance! Emma totally out danced him. I wonder if he was injured or if it just isn't his dance.

Monsterinmyshoe · 08/12/2019 11:34

*WTF auto correct, how does cha cha = character change on auto correct!! 😫

chocolateisavegetable · 08/12/2019 12:00

Did anyone notice that after Chris's second dance Tess said it was his last dance - and then added "of the semi-final" after a rather-too-long pause? It just felt odd - like she knew for sure it was his last dance of the series. And then Karen didn't seem to bother making any attempt at justifying him being in the final.

Maybe it's lack of sleep, but it kind of feels like it's fixed.

NumbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrsStation · 08/12/2019 12:11

Just rewatched that - to make more time I usually fast forward Tess’s bits as she grips my gizzards.

It felt too long to me too.

Maybe I’m too tired as well. Confused. Given the random high marks to her of the eyes and huge marks to Karim when he hasn’t conveyed the story or emotion, to me they’ve made it plain all along who they like.

And with good grace and sense, we awkward viewers tend to piddle on their frites. Grin

cordelia16 · 08/12/2019 12:14

I really hope that Kelvin doesn't win, but I have a bad feeling that he will :/ He just is so dull to me. No personality at all. He just stares at the judges during the critique, with no visible change of expression no matter what they say. Half the time I don't think he understands what they're saying. His pro-Brexit stance notwithstanding, he went to a theatre school and took ballet lessons. So that's not exactly no dance experience.

I don't think Chris will make it to the final, and I don't think Karim has enough public support, so I'll be voting for Emma. Bonus to Emma winning is that Anton will hopefully retire.

Shame that Catherine, Dev, and Michelle left so early in the competition.

Not looking forward to tonight's results show. I'd be shocked if Kelvin didn't get through without dance off, and I just cringe when I picture his Wallace-grin face and Oti's overbearing shrieking.

Ah well.

TheMustressMhor · 08/12/2019 12:19

Cordelia I have to agree with you in regard to Kelvin's lack of expression and Oti's shrieking.

I have to say that I have reached the point where I kind of don't care who wins now.

Horehound · 08/12/2019 12:25

Oh I think Kelvin Is a great dancer and seems lovely. I think you need to put politics aside on a show like this. I voted for him but I don't want Brexit.
I'd be happy if he won or Karim. I really don't think Emma or Chris are good enough to win..there's just too many mistakes

chocolateisavegetable · 08/12/2019 12:26

I also agree about Kelvin. My favourite dance of the series was Karim doing hairspray - but he is very hit and miss.

Binglebong · 08/12/2019 12:40

I was cringing through Emma and Anton's first dance. It felt like the standard you would expect for several weeks ago. And very badly choreographed- I usually think old Tony does a good job but not then.

While Karim didn't pull it off the difference having a properly choreographed Argentine Tango made was incredible. Easily the best AT this year. Am I correct in thinking it's not one the pros would usually do on the competition circuit? I seem to remember explanations that it was new to them too and so they all got help. I think that's dropped off now but the newer pros will still not have done it so need that assistance. It showed.

DarlingNikita · 08/12/2019 12:45

Am I correct in thinking it's not one the pros would usually do on the competition circuit? Yes, it isn't. It's neither ballroom nor Latin, either; it's something of an anomaly. They did used to make a big thing about how the pros all needed help as most of them hadn't done it before.

ArseDarkly · 08/12/2019 12:46

I don't care about kelvins politics, Strictly is my escape from Brexit! 😀 I just don't like the look of him dancing, hard to put my finger on it, I just don't like the shapes he makes somehow.

I find Emma really watchable and expressive of the joy of dancing so I hope she gets through

Elderflower14 · 08/12/2019 12:54

Just had a huge surprise. Wandering round Poundland with my basket and ds2 Facetimes me. I accept the call and up pops..... DR RANJ He's in panto near ds2 and he agreed to a meet and greet before the panto with ds2... He said hello and wished me a Happy Christmas... I wished it back and thanked him for meeting ds2.
He then very sweetly videoed and signed Happy Christmas in Makaton for the down syndrome group ds2 works with. What a lovely guy he is!!
Not the way I expected to spend Sunday lunchtime but a lovely surprise!! ♥

DarlingNikita · 08/12/2019 13:03

I didn't know about Kelvin being pro-Brexit. For some reason I'm surprised, but I don't really know why; they do walk among us, after all.

NumbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrsStation · 08/12/2019 13:05

Ah Dr Ranj is a proper good egg Smile

Theromanempire · 08/12/2019 13:24

I'm glad that others didn't rate Emma's Cha Cha - it looked really awkward, stilted and that she had forgotten the steps at least twice! The judges comments and scores were definitely on the generous side Hmm

Equanimitas · 08/12/2019 13:40

Colleague who lives in the same block as Emma says Anton has been seen there a few times. Which suggests that rumours about them not getting on aren't true.

iklboodolphrednosedreindeer · 08/12/2019 13:57

Elderflower - that's so lovely!

UrsulaPandress · 08/12/2019 14:01

Kelvin’s Brexit stance Hmm

What’s that got to do with the price of eggs?

DarlingNikita · 08/12/2019 14:05

Ursula, it makes me think less of him

UrsulaPandress · 08/12/2019 14:17

Do we know the Brexit stance of the other contestants?
