It was known beforehand that Renee would die in that episode. I remember as a child going to swim at the local hotel that evening with my Mum. At the last minute we decided we couldn't miss that event, so we went into the hotel TV room and watched Renee's ending. ( The episode is on YouTube).

joydivisionovengloves71 · 03/04/2020 11:09

Ah maybe we hadn't bought the TV times that week !

joydivisionovengloves71 · 03/04/2020 11:19

I found a piece of writing from 1982 when I started secondary school. We had to write about ourselves and pass around the class. I had wrote my favourite tv programme was Grange Hill and I hated Coronation Street. That must have been to make me sound cool 🤣

eggandonion · 03/04/2020 12:26

They should put on Classic Grange Hill for the teengers! (And parents, obviously).

x2boys · 03/04/2020 12:32

Ok.but can we skip the Zammo and his heroin addiction storyline please? That storyline gave me nightmares😩

eggandonion · 03/04/2020 12:38

Yes, uplifting bits only!

Housewife2010 · 03/04/2020 13:37

Grange Hill is on YouTube. I introduced my daughter to the first couple of series a year or so ago. She really enjoyed it. It is a much slower pace than today's TV.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/04/2020 16:12

DD and I watched some YouTube compilation : "Coronation Streets Deaths" (no Spoilers) but she noted how many times Ken Barlow featured Shock like he's the Angel of Death .

It's like the advice given to actors:
"If you're appearing in Star Trek , wearing a Red Top, and Captain Kirk asks you to join the Landing Party ............ Do Not Go "

"If you're a Corrie actor and it's getting to the end of your contract , skim through an scripts to see if Ken enters the Rovers Return and makes his way to the bar , takes his glasses off , folds them and walks over to you don't go in the pub. Ever "

x2boys · 05/04/2020 17:29

Lol 70 ,I was watching some corrie special over Xmas ( I think) it featured some dramatic storylines over the years , and the actor that plays Peter Barlow ,said Ken was like the Terminator you can't kill him no matter what happens 😂

Patch23042 · 06/04/2020 14:44

I don’t understand Denise’s behaviour at all. I appreciate that she may not want to marry Ken, but why be so malicious?

The actress who played Josie was in Motherland recently. Excellent series. Hard to believe she’s four years younger than Helen Worth though! 39 years old filming these scenes.

x2boys · 06/04/2020 15:04

39 wow? She could pass for someone in their 50,s I think.Denise is quite arrogant ,Ken was,nt all.that interested in her before she got pregnant , he was on the verge of getting back with Deirdre when Deirdre came back from her mum,s so about 12 months in their time ?

eggandonion · 07/04/2020 15:24

Samir is keen to have children with Deirdre... she must be about 45? Now I need to google!

justthecat · 07/04/2020 15:40

Samir is driving me mad !

x2boys · 07/04/2020 16:52

She said she was,nt quite 40 to Liz before she went to Morrocco.

BlancheDuBlah · 07/04/2020 16:59

What the effing Jeff. How is Des 30?looks and acts like a permanently depressed 45 Yr old with hair dye.

Denise's character has no redeeming features. She's acting like a psychopath. It's quite disturbing.

Sarah Lancashire is a fabulous actress. Look at the contrasting roles from barmaid to sth like Last Tango in Halifax. She deserves more recognition.

eggandonion · 07/04/2020 17:24

Denise is a nasty piece of work. Des is no more 30, Deirdre is no more 40 than I am!
And I agree re Sarah Lancashire, Raquel was a lovely character.

Redglitter · 07/04/2020 19:08

Deirdre is a dreadful crier & unfortunately were going to be subjected to a lot of it in the next couple of weeks

BlobbaGob · 08/04/2020 12:45

I have stopped watching now, its starting to go downhill. Shame.

I really dont like Josie, either, something about her, and would anyone really pursue Don?? uuurgh

x2boys · 08/04/2020 12:51

I know Des really doesn't act like a 30 yr old ,when I first watched these episodes I was very early 20,s so 30 seemed ancient to me ,it's only now looking at it through the eyes of a 46 yr old how old he seems , I don't think the fashion helps all the men dress in a shirt.and tie when they are going out etc ,I don't think dh has ever worn a tie in the 15 years we have been together🤔

eggandonion · 08/04/2020 13:27

Don is horrible.

eggandonion · 09/04/2020 15:29

Samir is a real toy boy! I think he should have a dressing gown for breakfast.

TheSquitz · 09/04/2020 16:45

Deirde's crying and those veins in her neck...! Shock

SapatSea · 10/04/2020 10:53

Couldn't stand the Fench Mayor storyline, sleazy and unfunny.
Don't care about a holiday for our Tommy.
Denise is mental!
Samir would suffocate me
How have Deirdre and Samir spent "all their savings"? Mike gave them a big downpayment on the house of about 14K.
have some of the better storywriters recently left the show at this stage?
How on earth was Fiona actress getting acting awards at this stage? she's awful.
