Oh! Thank you - I've got some mint essential oil so I'l try that. Or is it a special commercial spray that you can buy?

I have to admit I hate the thought of poisoning/killing anything - even a rat, so I'm putting off calling the Ratman just yet. Left to myself I'd catch it and release it into a forest somewhere, but I was told in n uncertain terms when we had our last rat (was talking to next-door neighbour - she says it was over 20 years ago because she can remember me warning her to take her kids plastic toys (slide etc) in overnight because of the risk of infection, and her oldest is 28 now.

I told DH that if I could I would catch it and let it live out its natural life in an outdoor wire rat-prison with a slide tray at the bottom so I could clean it out.

I'd be too wary to touch it, but I'd not object to dropping feed through the bars and giving it fresh water etc.

We were having a look at where it may have come in and think it might be a transient, just looking for somewhere to dine out and maybe rest its weary little verminous head for the night. TBH, with four dogs and 2 cats in the close vicinity (and that's just our house - other neighbours have more) I think it's unlikely to want to move in. The Ratman told us our other one was just a visitor (he Knew About These Things) and would leave after the winter anyway - but as I say, it got terriered.

Polecats eh? I'll bet they stink! Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/11/2019 12:43

Just realised that I got into a convoluted sentence and forgot what I was trying to say

Was told in no uncertain terms, by the Ratman, that it is a prosecutable offence to release a rat anywhere.

Encyclo · 18/11/2019 13:46

@SchadenfreudePersonified

I never knew that. Not that I'll
Be catching and releasing a wild rat any time soon...

I hope it was just in its way from A to B, because they never live alone. Yuk!!

ppeatfruit · 18/11/2019 13:49

I do buy it here but I also make up my own, it has to be quite strong. Do they tell the rats, even the 'pet' rats, that they are illegal ? Grin I get a bit Hmm about attitudes to wild rats because it is known that humans carry more diseases than rats anyway.

It's tricky with the 'polecats' because we have never seen them , there is a bit of eave on our roof that something smelly used to get under. it has disappeared now I spray the area from underneath . It's difficult to describe our ancient house sorry.'

I quite like Saffy , I like that she says she has an 'old soul' and goes for old fashioned stuff. I wish she didn't slap on the make up with such enthusiasm. The dresses that the costume dept put her in don't l do her any favours IMO, the flesh netting is too light for her fake tan

kazzaD66 · 18/11/2019 14:28

We have bats in the loft and the eaves of the garage. I hate going outside at dusk because they are really active then and they scare the heck out of me. I refuse to go to the loft for the same reason. There's droppings everywhere, on the cars, front door step, window ledges and stuff in the loft is covered. Can't do anything about it though cos the bastards are protected. They've got more fecking rights than we do. I hate them Angry

Encyclo · 18/11/2019 14:30

I am completely phobic about wild rats, I live in the country and I see my fair share of them. Every time they horrify me.

Piggywaspushed · 18/11/2019 14:31

Oh God, I once had bats below my bedroom in a garage and I could HEAR them. The bat protection people swore I couldn't but I googled the noise and told them the breed and they concurred.

They woke me up and I was told I could not put the light on in my own garage because of bat protection. In the end they buggered off, presumably to the church tower nearby to lead happy bat lives.

Piggywaspushed · 18/11/2019 14:32

I can send my cat round : not only does he catch rats, voles, shrews and mice, he is very adept at catching bats!

Encyclo · 18/11/2019 14:40

We had bats and my dad used to hang tennis rackets outside the upstairs open windows in the summer to stop them flying in 😂

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/11/2019 17:12

I do buy it here but I also make up my own, it has to be quite strong.

Recipe? I'd love to make my own ppeat

We used to get a lot of bats flying around here at one time - DS used to put live mealworms into a a catapult and go into the garden at dusk and trebuchet the mealies into the air for the bats to catch (so proud!).

Alas, it has been a long time since there have been any about.

Zoidbergonthehalfshell · 18/11/2019 17:12

Best not come round here then, @kazzaD66 - I'm a registered carer for the Bat Conservation Trust, and it's very unusual for me not to have at least one in care at any time. I love them - they're the most amazing little creatures, and having a really rough time of it at the moment, mainly due to habitat destruction.

Samcro · 18/11/2019 17:24

Are we not talking dancing anymore on this thread?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/11/2019 17:27

Dancing, Rats and Bats, Samcro. Dancing, Rats and Bats.

It's surprising how intertwined they are.

I live in London and I sometimes think I see MORE than my fair share of them. Hate them with a passion.

MaggieFS · 18/11/2019 17:30

I'm going to the hairdresser in a mo, happy if anyone would like to give me a text commentary of ITT!

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 18/11/2019 17:32

Sorry, no more from me on the subject of any of the above Blush

I find the whole Vogue MV my community thing odd. I'd heard the Madonna song before but only vaguely listened to the lyrics and as she mentions Grace Kelly presumed it was about Vogue and fashion. Never heard of vogue dancing. Missed the preamble to her dance as only caught the last half of Strictly on Sat and just thought nice costume but not much dance content. Does anyone in the UK do Vogueing? The gay scene when I was a student was disco and house. None of my lesbian friends do vogueing or had heard of it.
I think the idea of judges supporting their "community" is a very dodgy idea and would lead to Motsi supporting Oti, same sex bias, same race bias, same class bias, same area of the UK bias, same religion or lack of religion bias etc
Judges have to try and be impartial and overcome their natural biases and just vote for the best dance. There is enough bias coming from the voters.

Piggywaspushed · 18/11/2019 18:06

My gay friend (God, i sound like my DM)is very big into Pride and the gay community. He won't mind me mentioning that he is old fashioned camp and his circle of friends all go to Pride and gay clubs.

Many pics of him on FB vogueing, must say.

LittleAndOften · 18/11/2019 18:12

Just watched that Paula Deen travesty on YouTube. Seems to me the choreography was all about disguising her inability to dance, rather than showcasing it! Madonna's MTV performance was about complementing the singing. Both performances were about stagecraft and stylised movement, not dance ability!

MV had the opportunity to perform something much more dynamic, technical and athletic. It was a poor judgement call on her part because this routine was never going to score highly, even when performed perfectly.

kazzaD66 · 18/11/2019 18:29

We will have to agree to disagree zoidberg Smile

Encyclo · 18/11/2019 18:33

Michelle and Gio are on ITT.
I was wondering if she'd show up, after all the fallout last night and this morning.

Encyclo · 18/11/2019 18:36

Michelle saying she's gutted to be gone.

Defending her dance. Gio standing by it also

Binglebong · 18/11/2019 18:39

Ranty ranty! Gio's face while Michelle goes on - very much "39th time I've heard this rant in this exact wording".

Encyclo · 18/11/2019 18:41

Gio's a class act really, he's had a time of it these past few months I'd bet 😂

Binglebong · 18/11/2019 18:41

Ffs this is an entertainment show! And as a PP mentioned it's such an open show already - hardly breaking new ground.Hmm
