2 dances in semi final.

RocketJoy · 18/11/2019 08:20

I felt sorry for Saffron and I’ve never taken to her particularly. Her “career” is based on people liking her and I’d have expected she’s get lots of votes (similar to Joe last year?) which would see her through a weaker week. She probably expected the same. She’s only 19 she was trying to maintain her composure even though she was gutted.

I always liked Michelle but sad to admit I’ve gone right off her. I don’t like when people claim to represent a whole community. Surely gays are all individual. Some very camp, some not, etc why clump then together like she’s doing and claim to represent them with that dance?! It’s like when people speak for “women” I’ve seen plenty of people take issue on here for saying that like we’re one big single thought group rather than individuals. I’ve a few gay friends who thought her dance was rubbish and didn’t get the reference to their “community” at all. I think her VT should have had more explanation of the history of that and the choice of costume etc to make it more evident to the viewers. Also agree entirely with what others have said regarding her tweeting after the event - she should have posted one statement about why she choose that dance and left it at that. To repost the comments re Craig and Bruno is totally disrespectful to them. They are there to judge a light entertainment show and their comments in the results clearly showed supper for michelle but she want the best in the DO. Why try to sully them. And as PP put in a lovely way SCD is already inclusive. We don’t need a lecture Michelle. I hate being preached to. I’ll go down in flames perhaps but she’s not for the GBP at all and reminds me of Markle. They both have good intentions but aren’t making themselves very likeable by being preachy about causes the majority of us support and agree with already!

digerd · 18/11/2019 08:29

Alex did well in the Paso with her posture and spanish style so the AT should suit her.

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 18/11/2019 08:30

Wasn’t it this year they were supposed to be introducing some sort of “judges’ mentoring” dance or something like that? Does that mean we won’t get a rigathon?

I wish they’d combine Movie week and Musicals week - half the time they’re the same anyway, and it all blurs together. Personally I’d have an M&M week where Movie week currently is, have Hallowe’en week, have a “pro swap” week the week after Blackpool, then proper two dance weeks in the QF and SF like it used to be. And I’d scrap Couples Choice because it’s just another showdance and one of them is enough.

Samcro · 18/11/2019 08:34

ffs why bring MM into it!

I didn't like the dance(if you can call it that) so I think the right person went. I felt sorry for Saffron as she was obviously upset.
I was surprised she was in the DO as thought she would be like joe and have such a big following she would just get too the final, with no DO.
so glad Chris got through,

WineOrGinOrBoth · 18/11/2019 08:40

Im feeling a bit thick this morning (horrid virus) & I know I should know the answer but are the bottom 3 the actual bottom 3 IYKWIM?

That doesn’t even make sense to me but I hope someone understands!

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 18/11/2019 08:41

It will be interesting to see if that was just a “ahh, she’ll be safe” aberration for Saffron à la Abbey Clancy and (I think?) Flackers - did she dip into the DO on one occasion before she won? I know Abbey definitely did - or if it’s a sign her vote is starting to collapse.

I haven’t warmed to her, although latterly I have been admiring her ballroom, but I felt sorry for her on Saturday and was reminded that she is only 19. Come to think of it I don’t think I’ve ever warmed to any of AJ’s partners. He’s clearly a very good teacher - if a bit less than usually supportive on Saturday! - and a decent choreographer, but he’s too much of a bot, and I think that rubs off on his partner. YMMV, obviously.

BarkandCheese · 18/11/2019 09:29

When all is said and done Michelle’s dance was a bit bland and underwhelming. It doesn’t matter what it represents to her, it’s how entertaining it is and it came across as stilted and low energy. I don’t think the costumes helped either, I could see what they were going for, but block mostly Matt and fairly pale colours danced on the tower ball room floor, which is brown and can’t be projected onto like the studio floor, just looked dowdy. The whole thing needed more sparkle and fizz.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/11/2019 09:41

I'm no fan of Saffron or AJ but it would have been a travesty to have saved Michelle over them.

Agree - that vogueing thing was neither nowt nor summat,

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/11/2019 09:50

@RocketJoy

Your post put it far better than I ever could. Agree with every word.

However, I felt that one good - indeed, GREAT thing came out of the vogueing (which was something that I, as an old dimmer, had never even heard of).

Joe Varney has never looked so knicker-wittingly gorgeous as he did in that dance! Worth her rubbish self-indulgence for that alone.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/11/2019 09:51

*Wettingly, not wittingly

What have I ever done to you, autocorrect? What? Just tell me - WHAT?

Theromanempire · 18/11/2019 09:53

schaden totally agree with you about Joe Varney. Ashley is one very lucky lady!!

Samcro · 18/11/2019 10:08

I don't think a lot of people have heard of Michelle or Saffron.
I hadn't until the show.

Mrsjayy · 18/11/2019 10:14

The scum is saying Michelle stormed out of Blackpool apparently there was fume Hmm

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 18/11/2019 10:27

I think they could have done a real gender-bending dance if they'd had them both dressed in the Marie Antoinette gown and wig, but floor length rather than open at the front, and done maybe 15 seconds of voguing to begin with. Then a quick change behind the curtain to remove the wig and dresses to reveal them both in sharp androgynous suits with slicked back hair, a minute of proper dancing - there's even a line that says "Ginger Rogers, dance on air" FFS - and then a final 10 seconds of voguing. It would have got the message across that was so important to Michelle, played with gender expectations and actually contained some proper dancing.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/11/2019 10:40

Iceberg

That sounds brilliant, actually - and original.

The routine Michelle used wasn't even an original one, which makes me wonder how much input Joe Varney had. I can't see him happily accepting someone else's choreography when he has the chance to perform his own, much better, dance.

I wonder if that's what she meant when she said at the end that he could "take it as well as give it out"? I thought it was a strange thing to say at the time, but now I'm wondering if she has insisted on her own way about this (and possibly parts of other) routines against his better judgement.

I had started off being cool about her -I just didn't know her and she seemed up herself - and then my opinion changed because she put so much of herself into the dance and was doing really well - a joy to watch on Halloween week, but now I think that she's all top-show and one of these people whiff they are getting their own way and receiving uncritical adulation, are all sweetness and light, but the mask slips if something doesn't go the way they want it.

She seems to have been scathing about everyone - judges, fans, LGB community, other members of the strictly team - Good riddance to her if she feel like that about things. If she's behaved as badly during the rehearsals etc as she has since she was voted off, I doubt she'll be missed.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 18/11/2019 10:50

Maybe that’s why she wasn’t invited on the tour?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/11/2019 11:00

Maybe . . .

ppeatfruit · 18/11/2019 11:06

Blimey you lot can 'alf go on Grin Thanks for the new thread Tits I'm half way through reading this thread and nearly lost you again so I'll save my place by giving you my Fantasy scd dance which would be a jive to Frankie (do you remember me) I don't remember the singer though Blush Grin Danced by Jay and Nadiya !!!

ppeatfruit · 18/11/2019 11:32

Totally agree with all the comments about MV and her strange attitude.

SCD is (and always has been) a lovely inclusive show . (get over yourself).

SoupDragon · 18/11/2019 11:35

Michelle always came across so well. This seems an odd overreaction. I didn't know her before but have seen her pop up nothings like the One Show and she seemed fine.

GrouchyKiwi · 18/11/2019 11:45

My SCD fantasy dance would be an American Smooth with Brendan to a Big Bad Voodoo Daddy song. Maybe Minnie the Moocher. Or a quickstep to the same band, maybe What's Next. We'd be an unstoppable Kiwi duo.

SeriesofUnfortunateEvents · 18/11/2019 11:46

Loved how Kelvin organised for Oti's mum to come over. Seems like a really sweet, thoughtful guy.

I haven't particularly warmed to Saffron before but I did feel for her when she was in the bottom two, especially if AJ was not very supportive just after their dance. It was a reminder that she is only 19 and she was trying to hold back the tears. As Chris said she does seem to be wise beyond her years.

Michelle - sadly not enough dance content and movement. She seemed to concentrate on the armography. As my DH said as we watched later dancers - they managed to incorporate arms and legs Smile

I think Emma comes across well - sheer joy at doing Strictly, remembers to thank hair, makeup and additional choreographers. With the couple's choice and Charleston I think they always have additional help and it's striking how infrequently these choreographers are mentioned. I did find it strange that she should say how Anton has given her confidence to dance given how much previous experience she has www.google.com/amp/s/www.hellomagazine.com/film/2019092178078/strictly-emma-barton-reveals-previous-dance-experience/%3fviewas=amp

GrouchyKiwi · 18/11/2019 11:49

Actually, I'd just love BBVD to be the guest musicians one time. Would be lovely.

ppeatfruit · 18/11/2019 11:52

Oh Schady sympathies for your vole and rat adventures, I raise you (possible) polecats, The French call them gli gli, in our attic and mice and fleas in the kitchen. Also pheasants, ducks, harriers, bats hedgehog families visiting our garden, we don't poison anything though.

There is a lovely mint ess oil spray that they all HATE so go elsewhere Grin. Try it you just spray where you think they get in. Obviously I welcome the hhogs and toads to eat the blackfly and slugs etc.
