He's CBBC @Samcro

Equivalent of Schofield, Andy Crane, and Andi Peters back in the day

Sistercharlie · 16/11/2019 23:37

I miss Pasha too!

ElspethFlashman · 16/11/2019 23:57

Can someone explain the Strap talk? I've clearly missed something.

I was pretty underwhelmed by Michelle's dance. Just a bunch of armography. You know when you think "I could do that meself!" it's never good. That said, her face was fierce and I did like the VT (being a total hag) .

I also clearly missed something with Anton and Emma's dance. It looked to me like her bum was sticking way out the whole way through and the gapping was so bad you could have fit a Man With A Van through them. But the judges loved it so maybe I'm completely wrong??? Confused

KurriKawari · 17/11/2019 00:01

Has Anton ever made it to the final?

NumbersStation · 17/11/2019 00:02

Tess has a ‘feature’ strap that instead of clinging to her shoulder or upper arm, was all droopy and down by her elbow.

I’ve a knackered old bra that does that steady. I suspect Tess’s strap was designed that way. And she wasn’t even tempted to keep trying to haul it up @ElspethFlashman

JemimaTab · 17/11/2019 00:08

I thought Anton made the final with Katie Derham (or very close to the final if not).

Actually when you think about it, that’s not a great record for someone who has been on the show since it started. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is leaving. He’s looking well past his sell-by date when you compare him to some of the other pros, and the show has moved on and kind of left him behind. He has seemed a bit out of sorts this year and his partnership with Emma B is very odd - I don’t think either of them are happy with it.

It looked like they tried to finish him off on the roller coaster but failed...

I know he is out of place a bit and he clearly looks out of sorts. I’m just not sure why.

KurriKawari · 17/11/2019 00:14

Really no need for someone to write a racial slur even if they are just repeating what he said Hmm

But that is what he called her

Would you rather I had starred out the A or something @KurriKawari ?

No offence was meant, I was pointing out offence if anything Confused

FilthyBiscuit · 17/11/2019 00:18

Late to the party, just caught up on the show. Can someone help me out please with Michelle and Gio’s dance? There’s a film the dance reminded me of. They were strutting and posturing, I think it was to a Bowie track. It’s bugging me and it’s bugging DP cos I keep going on about it! Ring any bells with anyone?

RocketJoy · 17/11/2019 00:22

I’ve been following all your comments since the start of series when I watched on catch up - thank you! It’s part of my strictly habit...I pause after each couple and catch up on your comments Grin Just started watching half way through last year.

I was disappointed in Michelle and Gio tonight. I think potentially I was expecting much more as there was so much hype surrounding their dance all week Confused A little similar to Emma last week with her CC - lots build up about it being her week etc then felt a bit of a flop. Michelle’s routine looked quite identical to one from dWS that someone linked to earlier in week - is it a direct copy of something else then?! There was another one posted that didn’t have the ball costumes and looked fab. I was just expecting a bit more.

Thought Karim was good but I can’t quite take to him as much as I feel I should given his dance skills. He seems too hyper, the heart hands are so annoying (didn’t notice many tonight though!) and he does seem to have his face on the screen muscling in on those time with Claudia. I don’t think he’s doing on purpose - I think he’s genuinely trying to congratulate others but he needs to WAIT until they have their moment to shine with Claud (esp last week with Kelvin).

Kelvin & Oti were amazing especially on second watching. He deserves higher score that Karmin (but not 40). Hope he’s first 40 seems genuinely decent guy. Think he’s been quite embarrassed by the whole hips thing.

I loved Chris tonight and I adore Karen and her hair and style. I think he’s just having fun and he’s really improved.

Emma & Anton I loved too. Especially her shocked expression at her 10s. Having not watched for long I don’t know all the old Anton history but he’s quite a character Hmm

Saffron I just can’t take to. She’s inoffensive but doesn’t seem to be memorable. The music was stuck in my head for ages after the show though but not her dance. AJ just always seems to be “on” I never feel like he’s speaking genuinely it’s all a bit of a performance with ever sentence thought out even on the VTs. He seems extremely talented for his age though - the judges always seem to direct specific positive comments towards him (rather than his celebrity) which they don’t do as much to the other pros.

And finally Alex - probably a little controversial but I’m not sure I do like her Blush It’s all a bit too much huge smiles “I love this” even on ITT it’s not fake as such I think she’s being genuine but it’s somehow isn’t sitting right with me either Confused

Judges - as a relative newbie Bruno isn’t annoying to me but I could see how he would be after many many years of his big performance critiques. Shirley is decent but does seem to take against people and her tone can be awful (thinking to Emma few weeks ago!). Craig is the one that seems more realistic/serious with his scoring (and I know NOTHING about dancing but he seems like he’s marking properly). Motsi...she’s disappointment me and I feel sad. She started brilliantly but never seems to say anything helpful/relevant and is OTT is her praise at time (eh tonight to Karim!)

Group dance was a bit blah. I LOVED the one few weeks ago with fame theme. I like being able to see the dancers properly too.

Sorry that’s so long ☺️

Bluerussian · 17/11/2019 00:22

Karim is lovely, Sanpro. I voted for him last night, was very impressed with his improvement.

Bluerussian · 17/11/2019 00:23

Sorry! I meant 'Samcro'! Blush

Bluerussian · 17/11/2019 00:24

Not keen on Michelle though up until last night, her dancing has been superb. Not so wonderful last night though.

JemimaTab · 17/11/2019 00:44

I had forgotten about that business of Anton’s racially offensive comments to Laila, and I agree he wouldn’t survive that if it happened today. Though it may have affected his wider BBC career - as I recall, the BBC were pushing him as a presenter with various other shows at the time, but that sort of fizzled out.

I also agree re Karim’s camera hogging. He has a tendency to make himself front and centre and it looks like he is muscling in on the other dancers’ airtime, which is not cool. If he’s a stage school kid, this gushy over-the-top “look at me” stuff may be normal to him but it’s very irritating to watch.

Michelle’s dance did fall a bit flat didn’t it - disappointed in that. I still want them to stay but I think they will struggle if they’re in the dance-off.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 17/11/2019 01:35

Opening routine was frenetic and Kev bless annoyed me as much as did with the Compere McSmuggery in the Fame pro routine
Chris - fun routine, more disco than salsa but he sold it. I am still not sold on Karen's bunny ears or messing her hair up for no reason, calm down dear it's just street commercial okay it wasn't but i might as well have been tbh
What's that Sooty? Pull the strap up? Grin fuzzy wins the thread for that pearl. Genius Star also for the strap drooping Grin
Margot matthew sold the rights to Sooty for 1.4 million 23 years ago and retired in 98 aged 50. Good on him. Not dead nor perve just retired quietly.
Em - good but not great -that would go to Kellie and Kevin's AS to the same number. It's Tony Beak's first tens but, unlike Karen's first tens being deserved with Chucky Venn, I'm just meh here - he should have got 10s for his Viennese with Katie ''keep going'' Derham
I want to be a Ginalist pancake
Alex - fair play to Neil for showcasing her having a break and a kit kat while she channelled BeyonceFlouncy bet Kev was thinking Could've been me doing epic paso at Blackpool. Not sure he would have wanted to fade out as much though. As for it being the ultimate strong woman paso lest we forget Kelly Brook and her refusal to let Brenda do the caping
Kelvis - good stuff - bonus point for Nan teethshaming him - minus point for surprising Oti with her Mum when she probably just wanted to get pissed at Blackpool and Motsi can't take over as she commutes back and forth from Germanland. Talking of which she said Pendel instead of pendulum maybe she just didn't know it was pendulum but you go Motz, blame it on his boogie Wink
Saff - not keen, a bit frenetic, preferred Cloudia's. And the men pretending to grab her just got in the way.
My kids are in awe of youtubers Hmm to the extent they go into raptures if they 'see' them in a game
A vole is new 'schaden* Have had mice, rats, bats, snails and a frog but not a vole. Not envious.
Michelle - sadly looked better in rehearsals. Just did not seem fierce enough. Was quite placed/elegant/stiff/aloof and I wanted sass and attitude. Funnily enough Paula Deen who did that routine when she was 68 on dwts performed it as well as Michelle did tonight. Maybe I had high expectations but am disappointed
Karim - I know logically he is good but that charleston did not make me feel a thing. Good for Craig for refusing to fulfil the 40 narrative.
filthy Golden Years - the divine Heath Ledger in A Knight's Tale?

Bluerussian · 17/11/2019 01:38

I have never forgotten Anton's racist remarks to Laila, quite appalling. She's a lovely lady and was quite gobsmacked. She carried it all off well though, very dignified, whereas he had to squirm. Honestly, who in their right mind would call someone 'a paki' and say they thought they'd been partnered with 'a terrorist'. Dreadful stuff.

For that reason alone I went off Anton. However he is a spellbinding dancer which is why - I suppose - Strictly have kept him on (I'd have sacked him). He is certainly great with Emma but I think she would be good with anyone.

What Anton did when he said what he said ten years ago, even if he didn't mean it, was show what a chav he really is. A chav doesn't have to be a youngster, some people never outgrow it. I know 'chav' is an unpopular word on MN but it fits him - with all his charm and polish, under the surface he's an ignoramus. Not someone I would like to mix with. That doesn't detract from his dancing ability and I suppose we have to forgive....but not forget.

Laila has never said anything against him, she's a lady.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 17/11/2019 02:10

Actually there is more to that whole furore than meets the eye. He wasn't sacked not just because he apologised and it was a private remark made backstage in the Star Bar but also because word had it that he took the whole fall for it as she did not want her parents to know that that is what she referred to herself as and was going through a custody battle with the father of her child who, unlike her, was pakistani.
Craig in Tales From The Dancefloor backed this up in part: ''It was one of those things where she might have called herself various names like I might call myself a big old poof or rancid queen - or rap stars and singers like Rihanna use the n word - but if someone else says it then it's not acceptable.''
I still think Tony Beak was a complete twunt for saying it and I don't subscribe to the But his girlfriend at the time was Japanese/his parents are Hungarian and Spanish line of defence or banter but I am still not sure of the circumstances surrounding it/the third party leaking it and the Times article that used to refer to Laila's use of the word is no longer available.

Bluerussian · 17/11/2019 03:03

Thanks Rage, I didn't know that. It does put a different complexion on the matter.
