Dorothy Squires and Roger Moore - twelve years her junior.

longwayoff · 16/11/2019 20:34

Julia should buy a hairbrush.

Oblomov19 · 17/11/2019 07:46

I binge watched the whole series, finishing it last night.

I would so it was all ok, just.

Xmasbaby11 · 17/11/2019 23:45

I'm sort of enjoying it but the characters aren't very likeable and there isn't any chemistry between the leads. Julia is a lovely looking woman but not striking. They don't look right as a couple. But Maybe because it's so rare and I'm not used to it.

CATTY15 · 18/11/2019 21:29

I can't help thinking how much Julia reminds me of Edina in AbFab!

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/11/2019 20:29

With celeb and cold caller on at 9, i shall have to watch this tomorrow

BitOfFun · 19/11/2019 21:04

What's Cold Caller about, Blondes? I didn't spot it in the TV listings.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/11/2019 21:13

Ditto.
Is it another drama series?

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/11/2019 21:51

4 parter this week. Started last night

On every night 9 pm ch 5

About a lady who loses all her savings due to cold calling and fraud

Worth a watch

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/11/2019 22:17

I'll wait and binge at the weekend I think, but follow the thread if there is one, I don't mind spoilers.

Medievalist · 19/11/2019 23:01

Just watched the first 2 episodes of Cold Caller - loving it!

BitOfFun · 20/11/2019 01:11

Thanks, Blondes.

mydogisthebest · 20/11/2019 09:22

Julia is meant to be 60 but is only 54 in real life. She doesn't look 60 and I would have preferred an actress that did.

Also Ben Barnes is 38 (not sure how old his character is meant to be) so not really young enough to be her son.

IcedPurple · 20/11/2019 09:41

I watched episode two - yes I'm watching it the old-fashioned way on TV - and liked it. Wasn't too keen on the daughter's plot line but maybe it will prove relevant. I wonder is there something dodgy about the 'colleagues' who met with Julia in that achingly trendy bar? Are they - especially the blonde Spanish girl - in on it? Is there even an 'it'?

JinglingHellsBells · 20/11/2019 11:36

She doesn't look 60 and I would have preferred an actress that did. She does. Maybe you only know old 60 yr olds! I am over 60 and have fewer wrinkles. She looks anywhere from late 50s to early 60s.

I thought last night was a it rubbish. The sub plot of her daughter took over the main plot.

There is so little dialogue between Julia and Ben, and when she speaks it's all mumbles.

I think the family doing their MI5 stuff is just silly. They're coming over as teenage kids in some sort of silly jape.

I will probably watch just to see the plot unroll, but for me the acting, dialogue and characterisation is really weak.

unique1986 · 20/11/2019 12:38

Ok so each episode is about a different person.
I don't mind that because you get to know each person a bit better.

I agree. Zero chemistry betweeen them.

Plus, the series is called 'gold digger' but is Julia really that rich? She appears to have worked in a museum - which certainly wouldn't make you rich - and been a SAHM. Yes, she's got that big house in Devon but surely if you were a fit young man in London looking to target an older woman for money, you'd aim a bit higher?

I think the family doing their MI5 stuff is just silly. They're coming over as teenage kids in some sort of silly jape.

Isn't it really only the elder son? The daughter seems reluctant and the younger son too interested in hanging around his mum's house.

Oh, and is the actor playing her husband the same one who played Uncle David in 'The Crown'?

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/11/2019 13:47

Seen last nights

Not much happened imo

Apart from Daughter now approving of boyfriend

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/11/2019 22:39

No one else watching real time
?

Jarstastic · 20/11/2019 23:21

Amazing house! Where in Devon would one look for a house like that, fairly close to a village?
@CATTY15 "I can't help thinking how much Julia reminds me of Edina in AbFab!" Definitely!

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 26/11/2019 03:05

It's driving me absolutely crazy that all the Christmas scenes are filmed on bright autumnal days where the leaves are still very much on the trees.

hopeishere · 27/11/2019 06:56

Last night seemed a bit of a filler episode. Not much really happened. Young son obviously going to sleep with Marsha's daughter.

OnionsOnionsOnions · 27/11/2019 08:58

I still think he is after the £££

AlessandroVasectomi · 27/11/2019 09:32

Patrick’s office scenes were filmed in the City law firm offices where I worked before I retired. They are often used for that purpose - it all helps meet the costs of running such a building, I suppose. Patrick’s individual office was the waiting area in Reception when I worked there!

I have to say his manner when in the office is very representative of a City lawyer!

The80sweregreat · 27/11/2019 19:28

I thought he was going to push her off the cliff , but not before they get married I suppose! Think of the dosh.
It's very slow and a bit boring. Marsha seems the most interesting character although what she sees in Ted I have no idea. He looks a smug so and so.
