Anyone watching? Helen Hunt appears to have an entirely new face.

OP posts:

Yes, watched it tonight. A bit irritated by the fact it's June 1940, but they obviously filmed in the winter hence all the hot breath clouds in the freezing air. Otherwise, I thought the beach evacuation scenes were well done and it's good to see the threads of all the individual stories starting to intertwine.

Wizzbangpop · 27/10/2019 22:23

Yes! All the stories are starting to intertwine. I wasn't expecting the America. Doctor to turn up in a field hospital.

That envelope that Lois handed to the RAF guy looks significant.

Awkward moment when the bil of the guy who's the father of your sisters baby wants to get on your boat and you don't let him.

Df says "winging your leg" is a naval term not an army term

Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2019 22:33

I believe that the envelope that Lois gave the RAF pilot had Harry's name and address on the reverse side. I agree it must be significant if the camera focused upon it.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 27/10/2019 22:36

I'm really enjoying the series although I spend each episode wondering who is going to die.

I think kasia will die sadly, which will probably mean Harry and lois will get married.

Tom was shot wasn't he?

I think the chap from the inbetweenies is brilliant, really well acted.

Wizzbangpop · 27/10/2019 22:39

I think Tom was shot but I sure if it was fatal or not

Sewingbea · 27/10/2019 22:54

I think Harry will see Kasia's brother and get him to England.

CoolCarrie · 28/10/2019 00:06

I enjoyed it, it’s getting more interesting and I’m started to care what happens next. I want them all to have a good ending, or perhaps there are plans for another series. I think I was harsh on it earlier, it’s much better than The Winds Of War.

SapatSea · 29/10/2019 09:49

I think this series has really picked up, I'm glad I stuck with it. I wonder if Lois will marry the RAF bloke, he's pretty likely to be killed and might want Lois's baby not to be illegitimate and all that went with that back then.

Love the Sean Bean and Lesley Manville scenes. Pull yourself together, Douglas!

I felt like killing Herr Rossler's Nazi worker and I never usually feel that way. Even flies get shooed outside in my house

CoolCarrie · 03/11/2019 21:53

Hilda’s mother is an idiot why did she come back?

CoolCarrie · 03/11/2019 21:55

Poor Hilda and her mother

BloggersBlog · 03/11/2019 22:01

That musician guy's French accent is just awful!!!! But the series has definitely improved

Sewrainbow · 03/11/2019 22:06

Shed a tear for Hilda tonight Sad Her poor mum and dad...

CoolCarrie · 03/11/2019 22:07

The problem is it is full of inaccurate stuff, like there was a strict curfew in Paris you could not go wandering around at will but will watch the last one next week, I bet it’s left open so the bbc can make another series.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 03/11/2019 22:20

Oh no didn't realise it's the last one next week.

I would have thought a nice middle class German family would have been able to leave Germany. Although thinking about it God knows where they could have gone. Tragic outcome though.

I hope Lois marries Vernon, he seems nice.

xsquared · 03/11/2019 22:23

I rather like Vernon too and hope Lois marries him.

I find Harry insipid.

eddiemairswife · 03/11/2019 22:26

I'm afraid the men's hair irritates me. I was a child during the war, and 'short-back-and-sides' was really short.

MissEliza · 03/11/2019 22:28

This series has picked up and the last few episodes have had me on the edge of my sofa! I love the fact it tries to show the tragedy of war from all perspectives. I particularly liked Harry making sure the soldiers suffering from PTSD got home.

Rhubarb01 · 03/11/2019 22:29

Still enjoying this, but I'm quite confused about the sequence of events leading to the tragic events at the Rossler's home. Both parents were arrested. Herr Rossler was interviewed about the disappearance of his Nazi employee whereas Frau Rossler had been denounced for comments made in public and was basically humiliated and forced to admit that Hilda has epilepsy. She is then allowed to go home and makes a heart-breaking decision. Then Herr Rossler is also released because his wife has apparently told them everything? So, what is she supposed to have told them about the murder and, if so, why was she released? Did I miss something?

Rhubarb01 · 03/11/2019 22:34

Separately, I like the way all the characters stories are starting to intersect - the fact that the random "Canadian" RAF Pilot - a lie about his nationality that quite a few Americans told and were accepted at face value - turns out to be the brother of the doctor in Paris.

Also, what happened to Kasia's older brother? He was last seen on the beach at Dunkirk?

MissEliza · 03/11/2019 22:38

@Rhubarb01 I wondered if she'd sold someone else out in order to get them released. I thought perhaps Helen Hunt's character but she's in next week's episode.

Rhubarb01 · 03/11/2019 22:45

Yes MissEliza she was burning letters as if to remove the evidence, but I'm not sure what they were about. Perhaps she has sold someone else out, but, like you, I don't know who. Confused

Popcornfan2 · 03/11/2019 22:50

I have really enjoyed it. I think series 2 could follow on the back of this one should they wish

VanyaHargreeves · 03/11/2019 22:58

I feel like I missed something last episode though I'm certain I watched it

What happened to Kasia's brother?

Pippy91 · 03/11/2019 23:26

How can world war dramas be boring ?? & ‘not my cup of tea ‘ a bit flippant way to describe a programme about a world wide historic event - might be worth remembering that if the millions of people who gave their lives hadn’t done so in the most courageous way you wouldn’t have the privilege to be even commenting so think on & enjoy your ‘cup of tea’

VanyaHargreeves · 03/11/2019 23:29

@Rhubarb01

I understood it as they had no evidence on Rossler so they brought in her to stress him out, broke her, and then released him
