Starting this one in anticipation.

OK.
VERY kind. Even disregarding the hips he wasn't any good.

I thought the Emmerdale 'hunk' was overpraised, although I love Oti.
Bit baffled by the 'brilliance' Emma B apparently showed.
Katya is a nutter Grin
Saffron was quite good, but I wish she didn't have creepy AJ.

KurriKawari · 29/09/2019 11:53

You sound like such a horrible horrible person.

covetingthepreciousthings · 29/09/2019 12:04

The thing is, if he can't physically do some of the things expected of him, then they'll probably mark him on what he can do & no one can deny the effort he is putting in.
I've loved watching him & Janette's performances, he's clearly loving the process & seems a genuinely lovely guy. I hope they get far.

DarlingNikita · 29/09/2019 12:16

KurriKawari, what? Confused

I understand now that he physically can't swivel his hips (I didn't know that beforehand).
I am confused, given that, that Craig should actively praise his hips seeing as they weren't doing what they 'should' do in this dance.

Separately, I didn't think he was very good in other elements either.

I do agree with coveting that he will/should be judged and marked on what he can do. So Craig might have been expected to praise e.g. his footwork, rhythm, personality...

SoupDragon · 29/09/2019 12:22

I thought Will moved his hips. He said last time that he has fused ankles so can't do some movements properly and that's why he probably appears "stompy" but I imagine the judges have been well briefed.

HumbleCrumble · 29/09/2019 12:29

I think it must be difficult for the judges to pitch their judging of Will. He physically won't be able to do some of the technique correctly (heel leads, foot positions etc), so how do you score him without seeming either harsh or patronising?

I hope my wording of this doesn't come across badly - the Paralympians they've had on before were disabled in one limb. Although that also has an effect on things like their balance and posture, the judges could essentially make allowances for the affected limb and judge the rest of them like they would anyone else. Will is more extensively affected than Jonnie or Lauren were.

ElspethFlashman · 29/09/2019 12:35

I think he's giving it some proper welly, though. He's fun to watch and he's like a little pocket rocket.

I suspect if there's a dance with essential moves that he can't physically do, then the judges will just overlook it completely. There's no point scoring on things that are impossible. And I'm fine with that.

Do I think he was over marked and over gushed on last night? Yeah, that was a solid average for me. The judges definitely overegged the praise pudding. But I thought it was harmless enough.

ThursdayLastWeek · 29/09/2019 13:14

I think we all know he’s not going to win, so there’s no harm in being gushy.
I’d rather someone was using the show to promote awareness of a disability than Ru Paul!

I am surprised though at quite how gushy the judges were - I certainly don’t remember them being so uncritical of Jonny Peacock or the girl from last year who danced with AJ who’s name completely escapes me.

DarlingNikita · 29/09/2019 13:18

Lauren someone? She was quite bad though, to be fair.

I remember Shirley being very constructive with her criticism of Jonny Peacock. She said one week she'd been thinking about ways in which he could work to make his posture as good as possible, and I can really imagine her thinking about it as she waited for the kettle to boil/sat in a traffic jam etc Grin

ElspethFlashman · 29/09/2019 13:34

Lauren danced like a baby giraffe, bless her. All elbows and knees.

covetingthepreciousthings · 29/09/2019 14:16

I wonder if it's more to do with his enthusiasm? They can see he's really putting his all into trying. I don't remember either of them being quite so enthusiastic, in fact I remember Oti getting v peed off because he was always running late to their training.

DarlingNikita · 29/09/2019 14:25

TBF with Will, the comments were gushy but the scores were only around 6, weren't they? So, although they praised his efforts, they didn't actually overmark him.

Figgygal · 29/09/2019 14:29

Just caught up
Enjoyed Muchelle and Giovanni , Kelvin and Oti, saffron and AJ

I don't think it's going to be a classic year

HumbleCrumble · 29/09/2019 14:57

It was Lauren Steadman - the celebrities from last year were a question on Pointless recently and she was the only pointless answer, so no one else seems to remember her name either!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 29/09/2019 15:27

nothing can beat Nancy Dell'Olio sitting up in that coffin for me

I know- talk about type-casting!

ChicCroissant · 29/09/2019 15:45

Will is someone I watch with a smile on my face - his enthusiasm is infectious! I was surprised he was so calm on ITT this week, like a pro it seems to be the lights and music that set him off. His description of falling over and Janette blaming it on his core was funny.

covetingthepreciousthings · 29/09/2019 15:58

Also, did anyone else LOVE the clip with audio turned on of Will singing along? I hope they do the same each week.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 29/09/2019 16:00

I was surprised Will had enough breath to sing along, it was a very high energy dance.

Cheeseoncrumpets · 29/09/2019 17:49

Lauren Steadman is the person people are thinking of. Easily one of the worst contestants ever to appear on Strictly. Dull as ditchwater. No personality whatsoever and just basically crap but not even in an endearing way like Ed Balls for example.

Sadly AJ could dance each week with a mannequin and the ladies of a certain age who all fawn over him would still blindly vote for him.

ElspethFlashman · 29/09/2019 17:55

Steady on! She was a lovely girl! Very nice family too, as I remember.

AnyoneButAnton · 29/09/2019 18:02

I’m guessing you’re quite new to Strictly watching Cheese, or you have a very short memory. I could name twenty worse contestants than Lauren without pausing for breath. I’ll grant you she wasn’t scintillating: she was the only pointless answer on a Pointless round of last season’s contestants and that’s not by accident.

xsquared · 29/09/2019 18:13

Lauren got further than she deserved, but I wouldn't say that she was anywhere near the worst contestant in Strictly in that year let alone ever.
I liked her but AJ, not so much.

Cheeseoncrumpets · 29/09/2019 18:16

Nope, Ive been watching for years. But I genuinely think she was one of the worst contestants ever on the show, a boring forgettable middler who should have gone weeks before she did.

Mrsjayy · 29/09/2019 18:29

Lauren made it to the semifinals so she couldn't have been that bad I liked her she was a nice girl who put her everything into her training, she is. Trialathalete so her stamina was always there .

Mrsjayy · 29/09/2019 18:30

Thread is. Getting a bit down beat we need to spread the glitter about so we are back on trackGlitterball.
