First thread here.

OP posts:
TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 22/09/2019 10:22

Elspeth - that's why I feel so uncomfortable about him being on the show and so uncomfortable about him being judged.

As a pp said, the fact that he was such a hugely accomplished sportsman, held in such high regard - it almost feels like watching bear-baiting or bullfighting in a weird kind of way. I can't explain it very clearly...

awaynboilyurheid · 22/09/2019 10:22

covetinghad no idea they did that , will be listening to the samba song and ( pretending I’m Oti) thanks for that!
Loved Oti and Kelvin we were clapping before they finished and also Karim and Amy I was watching him more than Amy he was amazing!
Don’t get the blogger thing and really zero idea why you would want to follow Saffron
Anneka is loving it but as stiff as an ironing board! I loved her comment it’s not about technique it’s about how you feel inside
And Cladias brilliant well it is a little about that too haha
Poor James Cracknell I think Shirley was kind because he looked ready to throw in the towel , such a wrong dance to give him on week 1 Shirley,s comment was similar too Anne Widdicombe I did all the steps righting the right order comment
But he was like Lurch learns the tango!

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/09/2019 10:23

OTOH, I was cringing so badly I nearly turned inside out when Shirley was talking to Kelvin about being in touch with his feminine side* 😂

Yes, what was she on about??Confused

VictoriaBun · 22/09/2019 10:34

Does anyone agree with me that in a way it's ' good ' to get a hard dance in the very early days as your more than likely to be judged with more sympathy than having it later on when expectations are higher ?

thecatneuterer · 22/09/2019 10:40

will be listening to the samba song That samba song (Celia Cruz's Carnival) is in fact a classic salsa song. This is something that (I accept probably irrationally) bugged the hell out of me. They almost never use actual salsa songs for the salsa dances (and it's very difficult indeed to dance salsa when you don't have the right music), but for some reason decide to use one for samba (admittedly it was a samba version of it). Gaaahhh.

I accept I probably need to get over myself. Maybe this is the start of actually using appropriate music for dances. We can only hope.

I think this is why Anton did the Jive first! I expect him to do the Charleston next week or Samba, get them out of the way Grin

thecatneuterer · 22/09/2019 10:43

Carnaval , not Carnival - damn you autocorrect

RolyWatts · 22/09/2019 10:43

Honestly don't know why there's so much love for Shell Face. She is so Americanly earnest. She was OK on the floor but not worthy of 8s ffs. Quite a lot of sycophantic bs from the judges already and its only going to get worse. On the other hand Anneka couldn't put one foot in front of the other but her lovely smiley face made me so happy. Kelvin 🤩

Haha, don't be silly! I don't think that will ever happen Sad

ElspethFlashman · 22/09/2019 11:11

I thought Michelle had masses of style. Those Queens have taught her well. It's all about the arms and the fingers and pointing and confidence. If there's one thing you learn on RuPauls Drag Race it's that attitude is everything.

I think she got the high marks not because she did OK technically, but because she acted it out so well.

Not much room for that sort of stuff in other dances. She could find something like the Viennese Waltz trips her up cos you can't show any attitude at all and don't do anything with your arms.

And God knows how she'll get on with something fast like the jive.

ppeatfruit · 22/09/2019 11:57

Thacatneuterer I also thought SOME of the music was better than before. The Football anthem rather demolished those thoughts though Grin Hmm

xsquared · 22/09/2019 12:36

@thecatneuterer I was excited when Oti and Kelvin's music came on as it used to be played every week at Salsa club. It was the floor filler and people would sing along with the "wa" bit, that they didn't play yesterday.

xsquared · 22/09/2019 12:37

Nadiya did her best with that choice of song to be fair.

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 22/09/2019 12:40

Hello All,

Loving this thread. Only reading today cos I can never watch Strictly live!
Wasn't it good?
I have a question and forgive me for asking but I'm new and haven't rtft but is Lord Farquard Anton? 🤔

Thanks Grin

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 22/09/2019 13:03

Definitely rooting for Oti the Goddess. And yes I also rewatch her and Danny Mac dances on YouTube Grin

xsquared · 22/09/2019 13:12

Just started a new thread as this one is nearly full.

Here

Figgygal · 22/09/2019 13:22

Catching up with my 7yo ds
I'm really happy Neil has a partner this year he looked so chuffed too

JumpyLiz · 22/09/2019 13:41

Just catching up with the thread, and re James Cracknell- I had forgotten about his brain injury, and having been reminded about it, my ‘troubled gorilla’ comment seems unduly mean (as opposed to light hearted, take the piss a bit mean, which was the way it was intended). I hope I didn’t cause any offence, and I’ll be mindful of it going forward

MargotLovedTom1 · 22/09/2019 16:28

His posture was poor, there's no getting away from that. I agree with TheOnlyLivingBoy though, that watching him is uncomfortably like watching bull fighting or bear baiting. He had an air of wounded dignity.

peachgreen · 23/09/2019 10:35

None of the tabloids seem to have managed to dig any dance experience up in Kelvin's past...

peachgreen · 23/09/2019 10:36

ugh meant to put that on the new thread, sorry!

IslaMann · 23/09/2019 11:19

Can we have a link to the new thread please?
