First thread here.

OP posts:

Kelvin deserved 8s and the rest of them shouldn't have scored higher than a 6 really. If we are at 8s for a lot of them, how do they progress. Silly.

ConfCall · 21/09/2019 23:02

Pleasantly surprised by Michelle, Karim, Kelvin, Will (Marc Almond 😂)

Alex was good but I suspected she might be.

David will improve - he needs to start enjoying it. His nerves got the better of him. He used to be watched by millions on tv and in stadiums and played in a technical position where every error is noticed and scrutinised.

So glad Amy has a decent partner after that ghastly man last year and the lovely-but-untalented comedian before that.

covetingthepreciousthings · 21/09/2019 23:14

Is Karim a ringer?

ChicCroissant · 21/09/2019 23:55

Karim is this year's ringer, star of the Lion King amongst others

Having said that - Kelvin was amazing!

James is not acting, any clips I've seen of him he has been stock still while Luba is doing all the moving around. He may be competitive but I think he is really struggling.

Michelle was a lot better than I expected, I like her style! She's going to be fun.

ITT is only on at the earlier time for the first two weeks, then it reverts to BBC2 and the usual time.

I am still sticking with my original predictions of Karim and Dev, but will add Kelvin to that as well after tonight Glitterball

ElspethFlashman · 22/09/2019 00:12

Is Karim going to be this years Aston? Great club dancer, but unable to stop body popping? I suspect so.

Michelle's arms... Ooooohhhhh. She did not spend all that time at the balls in NY for nothing!

Not sure why Shirley came for Honey so much, but was so nice to Lurch.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/09/2019 00:19

I was getting Aston vibes, I hope he gets further though, I enjoyed his dancing tonight.

KurriKawari · 22/09/2019 00:36

Shirley attitude to Emma reminded me of how she was with Faye last year.

Tonnerre · 22/09/2019 01:54

I am suspicious that Kevin got such a rubbish performer

Why? It's pretty standard for the winner to get a duffer the following year. Evens things up, and they probably reckon the professional in question has earned an easy series.

Horsemad · 22/09/2019 07:11

Placemarking; what an entertaining first show! 😮

Kelvin - woooh! That guy can dance! Also liked Michelle, Alex, Karim & Dev.

ElspethFlashman · 22/09/2019 07:34

Poor Anneka.

DH said she was the worst "Dad dancer" he'd ever seen.

derxa · 22/09/2019 08:04

I find Michelle incredibly pompous and preachy. When she was in CBB her best friend was Katie Hopkins

Clawdy · 22/09/2019 08:18

Shirley B's comments on Emma were harsh and unpleasant. And to end with that nasty little "Quite nice." I dislike her more than ever now!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 22/09/2019 08:44

Excited about Kelvin and Michelle. Felt Alex and Emma B were less good than I had built them up to be in my head. Neil was amazing though but DH and I feel really sorry for Emma B having Anton as her teacher as he just doesn't seem very good at it when he has someone who's not the comedy act.

Not hugely excited by Karim at the moment - will be more interested if he proves he can pull off a slow, intensely emotional dance as opposed to something crafted around his existing personality.

Couldn't watch James. I've rarely felt so uncomfortable seeing someone do so badly.

ElspethFlashman · 22/09/2019 09:00

Anyone else felt very sorry for whatsisfsce, the McVitie lad, when they kept panning towards him in the audience? He was trying so hard to look chipper but he really wasn't. I thought it was a bit gratuitous.

ChicCroissant · 22/09/2019 09:05

There has been a lot worse then James, he was at least moving - try Quentin Willson (sorry Quentin).

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/09/2019 09:10

Yes I thought similar. Especially zooming in on him after Kelvins performance.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/09/2019 09:32

Totally agree, it was unnecessary to be that harsh on week one..

I did wonder if they are also critiquing Anton! As like a PP said, he does seem to struggle himself when he doesn't have a comedy act!

MargotLovedTom1 · 22/09/2019 09:34

Oh God, I agree about James Cracknell - 'troubled and confused gorilla' indeed. I've never felt so bad watching someone try to dance, never mind such a previously distinguished and accomplished sportsman.

Michelle V is what Nancy dell'Olio thought she was going to be. Emma B has fantastic legs and a very small head. Disappointed for Chris Ramsay; he was pretty terrible. Thought Kelvin also looked a bit gorilla-like at times, but a gorilla who can dance. It was rather gobsmacking! Can't wait for Monkseal's full write up.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/09/2019 09:37

Disappointed for Chris Ramsay; he was pretty terrible

Oh, me too! I'm hoping he has a 'journey'... does anyone follow his wife on Instagram? I think she was a dancer? Maybe she'll try teach him some.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/09/2019 09:39

Just a heads up for anyone who enjoyed the music, some kind people out there upload strictly playlists (on Spotify) that get added to each week with the dance tunes Grin
I then obsessively play them for the week..

Just search 'strictly 2019', there's previous years all on there too!

You might already know this, or not care.. but incase you want to samba round your kitchen Wink

ppeatfruit · 22/09/2019 09:51

Michelle's a ringah I reckon and a great asset to the botox\plastic surgery business. A bloody good dancer though.

I enjoyed that, Motsi is fabulous, she's so good I'd forgotten all about Darcey Blush.

KurriKawari · 22/09/2019 09:52

I'm in two minds about James. Either he's just there to earn some money following his divorce n is purposely blase so he can leave week 1 n take his paycheck. Isn't he at uni at the moment studying his masters? Or maybe his brain injury has affected so much more than the public realise. I dunno but he will be out soon.

Yes Anton should have been benched rather than Gorka. Don't buy the whole Gorka has had a baby theory, people work in the emergency services, armed forces, train for Olympics after having a baby am sure Gorka can cope esp if he's got time for loose women! Hoping anton getting a good partner this time is a sign it's his last year.

Love, love, love Alijaz, Giovanni, Karen, Jeanette, Oti and AJ.

MargotLovedTom1 · 22/09/2019 09:55

I think hope Chris might be better in ballroom.

ElspethFlashman · 22/09/2019 10:17

I think it's the brain injury. I believe he has memory issues so I imagine he literally couldn't keep track of both his upper and lower body at the same time so he chose his feet.

People really underestimate brain injuries. Particularly if the person has fluid speech. But there are some issues they create that you just have to live with, like memory deficits or personality changes. We know he had a personality change from his ex wife, it's silly to imagine that if his brain injury was serious enough to cause that change, that nothing else was affected to.

I'm not sure this is the right show for a person with a brain injury. It's mentally hugely demanding and you have to regurgitate everything you've learnt all in one go, in public. It's not like a Masters where you can refer back to your notes as many times as you need.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 22/09/2019 10:18

Absolutely LOVE Motsi. Such a refreshing change from Darcey.

OTOH, I was cringing so badly I nearly turned inside out when Shirley was talking to Kelvin about being in touch with his feminine side 😂
