We are watching on Channel 4, UK pace and have only seen episodes 1 - 12 so far.

... and it also demonstrates how she can do these things herself, without having to wait for Nick to ride his white horse in to rescue her Smile

ElspethFlashman · 04/09/2019 08:40

Yeah I mean the Martha's are cool and all, and they're clearly planning bombings. Or were before the retribution that will fall down upon them now....

But they weren't trying to get people out. I have a problem with that.

What's the point of guerrilla tactics if it doesn't get anyone out and actually risks collateral civilian deaths?

ElspethFlashman · 04/09/2019 08:42

I definitely think June is brave. She's scared but she throws herself in deaths way anyway.

And Lawrence too, she accused him of being a coward in an earlier episode and we saw him scared, but he still chose to stay behind and he knows he could be hung.

I admire people who shit themselves but keep going anyway.

Jamhandprints · 04/09/2019 12:10

Apologies if anyone's mentioned this but I just read that they did film some Nick scenes for the finale but had to cut them as they weren't integral. So maybe his story isn't over yet.

OriginofSpecies · 04/09/2019 12:12

There are extracts from The Testaments on the Guardian website.

I've read the first section (very good so far!), but stopped myself reading further as I have the book on order, to be delivered on publication day next Tuesday and I don't want to spoil the full reading experience for myself (even though I doubt if any actual spoilers from the book are in the extracts).

Nick's a double agent, for sure.

There's no way he's not.

viques · 04/09/2019 12:47

orign of the species was just coming on to say I had spotted the guardian extract' made my mouth water! I am wondering who the aunt is , and hoping of course that it is you know who!!!

EmpressLesbianInChair · 04/09/2019 12:48

Origin, I've also been meaning to say thanks for the threads. Having one per episode was a great format, we'll have to repeat it next year!

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/09/2019 13:03

I am wondering who the aunt is , and hoping of course that it is you know who!!!
It can't be, it's someone that grew up and went to school in Gilead.

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/09/2019 13:05

I'd assumed the different sections were the same person, I may have been wrong about that.

FairfaxAikman · 04/09/2019 14:38

One is an aunt, one is a child who's grown up in Gilead but I couldn't work out who the last person was supposed to be - a wife maybe?

ElspethFlashman · 04/09/2019 15:08

Hey, no book Spoilers please!

EmpressLesbianInChair · 04/09/2019 15:34

Yes, could you start a new thread for talking about the book?

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/09/2019 16:55

We've been talking about the new book on the other Handmaid's Tale thread.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 04/09/2019 18:07

Is there a link to that thread @CaptainMyCaptain?

@Mackerz has offered to start a new thread for the book when she gets it and starts reading. We'll probably try discussing it a chapter at a time.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 04/09/2019 18:53

Thank you!

mommydragon · 04/09/2019 19:08

What is the name of the program with 'June' which was advertised during the screening? I fast forwarded meaning to check it later and have now deleted the episode.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 04/09/2019 21:23

It was a new movie - think it was called The Kitchen.

stumbledin · 05/09/2019 14:57

Was just thinking if Margaret Atwood is going to relate the story of June and others 15 years after the end of the book, in some way she is taking hold of the storyline.

So many people will read the book, and if say she has Nick and June running away to Mexico hand in hand (!!??!!) the script writers of any more tv series will have to take that into account.

So we may need many threads. One like this, so excellently set up to discuss each episode as shown on tv, one for those who access the series ahead of UK broadcast, and one for those who want to compare the book to the series.

(I heard on the news that Amazon have breached the agreement not to release any copies until next week by distributing them this week.)

CurbsideProphet · 05/09/2019 15:30

@stumbledin
Margaret Atwood has said that The Testaments is completely separate to the tv adaptation. It is set 15 years after the end of the novel and does not follow the storylines created for the tv adaptation.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/09/2019 16:12

Prediction: Rita and Luke will get together in the next series.

ElspethFlashman · 05/09/2019 16:28

I hope so. Luke needs a storyline other than sniffling angrily. And I bet Rita is gorgeous with her hair down.

And it would be interesting if June wasn't the only one who had gone outside the marriage for comfort and then he couldn't judge her over it. He would feel that same conflict.

Especially as I think June's shagging days are definitely not over, if they're going for several more seasons!

Handmaid's Tale Testaments Crossover!!

Hulu is developing a TV show of Margaret Atwood’s Handmaid’s Tale sequel.

New book The Testaments will take place 15 years after Offred’s final scene in the original novel, which was released in 1985.

Bruce Miller – the showrunner of Emmy-winning series The Handmaid’s Tale – “is involved in discussions about how to best approach the new material".

“It’s unclear at this stage what form The Testaments will take – whether it will be folded into the existing Hulu series or developed as a separate work,” Feldman writes.

It’s unknown which Handmaid’s Tale characters, if any, will show up in The Testaments, but it seems likely that Miller should provide some crossover should they proceed with a TV show version.

I agree Luke was a cheating sh*t.
June didn't care about his wife's feelings.
