love is putting it a bit strongly private

He has just won though Grin

Fizzywinegum · 26/08/2019 21:09

Private I thought you were a new poster who had been paying particularly close attention to our ramblings Grin

Haven’t watched any of the us open yet - I’m hoping to watch Tsitsipas and Rublev tomorrow.

kazza I’m reading John McEnroe’s “but seriously” - I’m finding it quite entertaining - I was chortling to myself reading it in the garden today. He really doesn’t like Lendl does he? Grin

QuiQuaiQuod · 26/08/2019 21:21

Why do they pander to the Diva Williams ?

Why shouldn't CArlos Ramos umpire any of her matches? At this rate there'll be no umpires at all to umpire her matches!

Missing the US open as I don't get the channel its on Sad.

bookbook · 26/08/2019 22:38

hello!
back to read the threads . Just set up where the tennis is on Prime , have absolutely no idea how to get it to work , but with luck and a fair wind ......Grin. DH showed me , scrolled through and I watched a tiny bit of Konta playing . I had forgotten how much I hate the sound of screechy shoes on that flooring

Not sure how much time I will actually have to watch as its full on allotment atm , but will try and keep up.

kazzaD66 · 26/08/2019 22:50

Yes fizzy Mac made me chuckle at times. He could fit in quite well on this thread with some of his musings Grin

Adelie0404 · 27/08/2019 06:33

So we did see Andy’s match! Yes it was a teeny-bit one sided - poor 17 year old Imran. There were some good rallies, it’s just Andy always won them. He was impressive. Great crowd - we were in row 2 from the front.
The Academy is great, a fab facility. You can just walk off the street and watch tennis, it’s bizarre!
We actually went to the beach for much of the day as DD1 really wanted to, and went to the academy about 4 - DD2 insisted on going to the museum. It was fun, one floor is interactive stuff - lots of different sports. We would have spent longer there - great for kids. Downstairs is all the trophies and outfits and a holographic Rafa. It’s not really Rafa being a megalomaniac - he did need somewhere to put his trophies after all - he has a LOT of them. We saw the last set of an Italian and a Portuguese who named escape me, and then Andy!
All in all, a really fab day.
Fizzy, you have to go!

magimedi · 27/08/2019 08:50

Sounds like a great day, Adelie.

No tennis for me as am not getting Amazon - sounds such a pain.

Off for my swim - water is the warmest I've known it in a long time.

kazzaD66 · 27/08/2019 08:59

What a great day Adelie Glad you got to see Andy up close.

I see Stan won overnight, as did Feliciano.

Adelie0404 · 27/08/2019 09:07

I’ve just followed scores so far, but when I get home will watch some. Well done Stan - and Grigor- hurray!

Fizzywinegum · 27/08/2019 10:11

Tournament sounds great Adelie - glad that you got to see Andy - felt a bit sorry for his 17 y o opponent.

I’m just back from my outdoor swim (not in the sea but still nice) - hope you enjoy your swim magi

Haven’t watched any tennis yet - looks as if Roger had a four setter - pleased for Stan and Grigor - bet they were glad to not be playing each other. I’m hoping to watch Tsitsipas later and a few others. Wish I could watch Rafa and Milkman but it will be too late for me.

The house has descended into chaos over the Bank Holiday but it’s too hot to do anything about it!

kazzaD66 · 27/08/2019 12:15

More MN good sense from Martin Samuel Grin

Tennis thread: to Winston Salem - and beyond! All your build-up to the US Open here...
Raahh · 27/08/2019 12:40

I like Martin Samuel.

Did you hear what Serena said when she was asked about Ramos?

She said 'I don't know who that is'.

Arrogant, attention seeking idiot.

JaneJeffer · 27/08/2019 12:54

Private M15 will be trying to recruit you if you're not careful Grin

kazzaD66 · 27/08/2019 13:03

Yes Raahh I saw that.
She makes herself look like the rude, arrogant bully that she is.
It would have been so much better just to say something along the lines of......I'm sorry, but I don't wish to speak about the matter.

Raahh · 27/08/2019 13:34

kazza exactly. Hardly covering herself in glory, is she? But she relies on the fact that she appears to be untouchable- and has a team around her who will indulge her every whim. Being an amazing sportswoman does not excuse rudeness and bad behaviour. She doesn't get a free pass.

Raahh · 27/08/2019 16:53

Just doing a bit of score checking- I see Stefanos lost his first set to Rublev. He's on a bit of a roll a the moment, could be a dangerous match for Tsitsipas, who hasn't been great lately.

SaveSpidey · 27/08/2019 17:47

It was looking a bit hairy there for Stefanos - but he's just managed to win the third set. It'll be interesting to see how this one goes now.

Adelie that sounds totally brilliant - was great to hear about the Rafa museum as well! Glad you enjoyed it Smile

SaveSpidey · 27/08/2019 17:50

Oh FFS I'm defaulting to Save Spidey now Grin

I can't be bothered to log out and log back in. Argghh!!

Jane I'm expecting the tap on the shoulder any day now Grin

Raahh · 27/08/2019 17:50

Yes, looks like Stefanos is back in the match.

SaveSpidey · 27/08/2019 18:05

I've switched to Gasquet v Berrettini - Gasquet lost the first two sets but he's a break up in the second.

It's tough on him this - Berrettini is the 24th seed, and Gasquet would have been seeded if Raonic and Anderson had withdrawn before the draw was made - but they didn't, so their spots went to lucky losers. Doesn't seem fair really but anyway. Is Gasquet going to have enough for a five set comeback??....

Raahh · 27/08/2019 18:17

No, the lucky loser rule is unfair, and unbalances the draw. Reminds me if when Murray withdrew at the 11th hour.

Muguruza looks like she's about to go out.

Fizzywinegum · 27/08/2019 18:35

I saw that Gasquet was involved in a topsy turvey match Spidey - the withdrawal rule does seem unfair.

Tsitsipas not looking very convincing at the minute - he’s gone for a toilet break.

On the Tennis Podcast they were saying how fragile and sad Naomi Osaka seems - not sure if it’s the pressure of defending her title or thought of coming up against Serena again.

Serena’s response to the question about Carlos Ramos was breathtakingly rude and arrogant.

Stefanos is taking a long time - hope he’s coming back!

Raahh · 27/08/2019 18:39

Naomi has seemed out of sorts since splitting with her coach after Melbourne. A lot of people have commented it seemed like an odd thing to do.

Raahh · 27/08/2019 18:43

Cilic is doing ok though.

(I've jinxed him now)

Fizzywinegum · 27/08/2019 19:12

Eek Rublev has taken the third set for 2 sets to 1 lead - Tsitsipas looking very out of sorts - not sure if he’s injured or ill.

Mac is commentating - I feel as if I’ve spent too much time with him recently having just read his autobiography Smile

I see that Gasquet is out Spidey

Hope you haven’t jinxed Cilic Raahh - hard to believe that he won the whole thing a few years ago.

Apparently Roger has a beard - I’ve not seen it but I bet it’s not as good as Benoit’s Grin
