I'd say it's been a while, private, and he's always been better at doubles, imo.

It's a pity Kyrgios is through. Why wasn't he one of the early casualties.
More to the point, why has he even been allowed to play. If I was an umpire, I'd refuse.

SaveSpidey · 28/08/2019 11:07

Raahh I know. It's ridiculous.

Have you seen this?
Johnson

Steve Johnson - usually a nice, affable guy AFAIK?

Btw I also saw Rafa got a time violation yesterday (Milkman defended him at the time, saying people were still moving in the crowd and Rafa was waiting). But nobody swore, spat, etc. Funny that.

JaneJeffer · 28/08/2019 11:36

Wow he looked very pissed off but so would I if I had to spend any time in the vicinity of Dick.

Raahh · 28/08/2019 12:01

I always get annoyed by the fact more time is spent waiting for the crowds to settle, than anything the players do when serving. The US open is the worst for it.

Johnson did look pissed off, not surprised though. It was probably a typical Dick match. How many underarm serves did he do?Hmm

Fizzywinegum · 28/08/2019 13:27

Just watching a bit of the replay of Rafa’s match - the crowd are very annoying. Rafa had to wait for two oblivious women to sit down with their food and drink before he could even play his first point!

He looks very nice in his sleeveless black outfit Smile

That is definitely not a friendly handshake between Dick and Johnson - dick was probably just being his usual self.

Fizzywinegum · 28/08/2019 13:38

The crowd are really annoying me now - both Rafa and Milkman look well peed off.

Someone just brought their dog in Shock and what looked like their weekly shopping!

Raahh · 28/08/2019 13:53

Fizzy a dog??!
The crowds are always an issue there, and players often complain. Nothing changes.

Fizzywinegum · 28/08/2019 14:01

Yes Raahh quite a fluffy dog!

I’ve just got to the bit whether Rafa got his time violation - it was ridiculous and Milkman did try to defend him. Rafa manages to look cute even when he’s arguing with the umpire Grin

Fizzywinegum · 28/08/2019 15:13

I don’t know why I’ve only just realised this but Mark Petchey talks a lot of nonsense! He’s almost at Jim Courier levels of boringness!

I like the black part of Rafa’s outfit but not really sure about the mauve/lilac jacket.

SaveSpidey · 28/08/2019 16:05

Fizzy Grin he is. I think he gets away with it because he's quite funny (sometimes).

kazzaD66 · 28/08/2019 16:25

I've heard a lot about the NY crowds but obviously never seen it before this week. Even then, I was surprised during the Evans match the other day. He had to stop just as he was about to toss the ball up because right in his eye line, two twits were wandering the steps trying to find their seats. The umpire told them to stand still immediately, Evans served and the ball went way out. So he goes to do a second serve, only to see the same two twits continuing down the stairs and along the front row to their seats Hmm. They could have sat pretty much anywhere for a couple of minutes until a change of ends, given it was half empty.

I know I'm used to Wimbledon and the guards not letting people in or out until a change of ends (and, frankly, just general good manners and a smidgen of tennis knowledge and etiquette) but seriously, you do wonder why some of these people decide to go to a tennis tournament Hmm

kazzaD66 · 28/08/2019 16:31

Just went to look at the latest scores and see all matches are delayed bar play on Louis Armstrong, so they must have rain.

JaneJeffer · 28/08/2019 16:43

Petch gets on my wick. I'd listen to AC over him any day!

The crowds are terrible and they are always eating and wandering around. Of course I don't get to see them anymore Sad

Raahh · 28/08/2019 16:47

kazza I am the same- I like tennis quiet- I just about tolerate Davis Cup.

(I don't mind Canadian dj's playing themed music during rain delays thoughGrin).

I'm sick of rain. It has barely stopped here today. What did we get, 2-3 days of decent weather?

Rubbish Grin.

(Be lovely next week when school starts).

Fizzywinegum · 28/08/2019 16:51

Sorry you can’t watch the tennis Jane Sad - is there any chance of you doing the free 30 day trial? I’ve had it before and they offered it to me again so might be worth a try?

The us open crowd are awful - they just wander round with their food and drinks, chatting to their friends - it’s really disrespectful to the players.

Yes kazza it looks as if it is raining in NY - are you waiting for Dan Evans? Grin

kazzaD66 · 28/08/2019 17:19

Not quite fizzy Wink

Isn't Stan meant to be playing this evening aswell? Bear

Jane sacrilege! AC is an abomination Angry

I'm watching on the Amazon Prime free 30 day trial. Are you able to do that?

Raahh · 28/08/2019 17:58

I've just seen that Grigor is having the best week he's had in ages. he's through to the 3rd round, courtesy of Coric retiring before the match.

I suppose he will take what he can get at the moment!

SaveSpidey · 28/08/2019 18:11

Ah I was looking forward to that match! What happened to Coric?

Raahh · 28/08/2019 18:12

Not sure, Spidey , I just looked on the schedule and saw that match was a walkover. I agree it would have been a good one.

Fizzywinegum · 28/08/2019 18:22

I see that Keith is rocking the Bertie Bassett look again Grin

SaveSpidey · 28/08/2019 18:57

Fizzy I saw a funny picture of Keith standing next to a mannequin in the Bertie Bassett costume, but Keith himself was dressed in normal clothes Grin not sure what we can take from that really!!

Raahh · 28/08/2019 19:01
Grin

It's funny. I have really started to warm to Keith over the past year.

Just seen the Fed/Dzumhur scoreline. Fed's having a bit of a 'Rafa' start to the match.

Fizzywinegum · 28/08/2019 19:02

Grin Spidey

Keith also seemed to have odd socks on - not sure if that was deliberate or just part of the outfit.

He made hard work out of finally winning the match after serving for the match at 5-1 up. His opponent, Klahn, had a bit of a facial twitch - it was quite distracting.

Fizzywinegum · 28/08/2019 19:08

Just switched over to Roger - he’s looking very clean shaven so the beard is no more.

It’s Jim Courier and Mac commentating - Mac is calling Dzumhur “Zoomer” and JC seems to be calling him “Zimmer” Hmm

SaveSpidey · 28/08/2019 19:08

I just saw the end as it looked like it could go to 5 - Keith loves his 5 setters doesn't he?! So I only saw about the last 2 points Hmm

Watching Fed now. This kit's probably one of his best recently I reckon? Nothing too exciting. And where's his beard??

I might switch to Venus v Svitolina once it starts though.

Did you say Stan was playing kazza? I can't find him anywhere.
