Just that, really. I love her and really looking forward to this.

I thought it was completely bizarre and couldn’t see the logic. I did laugh at the guy who offered her a sperm donation.

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/08/2019 12:38

Was anyone else a bit mystified by the woman freezing her eggs asking previous boyfriends for donations?
I think, with her recently ex fiancé it was because he had 'wasted' her time with the biological clock ticking and now she would have to invest time in finding a new relationship and the years before she could commit to a stable relationship and a family. I agree it was completely weird though and she was very well off financially herself..

I was slightly troubled by the 24 year old woman who wanted to be sterilised as I have known women who felt like this in their 20s then happily became mothers in their late 30s or early 40s. 24 seems very young to me although obviously not to her. On the other hand, I had a baby at 25 and I couldn't change my mind about that either so maybe I am being unreasonable. (Not that I wanted to change my mind.)

Inappropriatefemale · 22/08/2019 12:56

If I was a doctor then I wouldn’t want to sterilise a woman of 24 either but some women are certain that they never want kids and it must be patronising to be told otherwise.

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/08/2019 13:11

Yes, I'm a bit ambivalent about that one.

DarlingNikita · 22/08/2019 14:15

I love this show and will be bereft after the last one.

A damehood for Kathy, I think. 'Fucking fat fuck on a really loud fucking bike' Grin

HelenaDove · 22/08/2019 16:11

22 years ago i WAS that 24 year old woman. i knew i never wanted to be a mother.

At 46 i still feel the same. I appeared on a couple of TV shows too. But i was treated very differently to the respectful way Kathy treated Megan.

In my case i was put on there with a couple who had sadly lost a child. Which was awful of course but you cant replace one child with another and i felt a bit emotionally blackmailed.

Second show someone yelled "Youre not human" at me across the TV studio.

The comments from men on Twitter showed that a lot of men seemed to not like it when women make this choice.

Threatened perhaps?

HelenaDove · 22/08/2019 16:21

@Inappropriatefemale She might have just signed on for her NI credit.

Its great that Band of Gold enabled her to get some security though.

Because i can just imagine what people would have been saying about her now if she hadnt bought and had rented.

Heres an example about what was said on here about Kathy not so long ago.

"tell them they have to move out to a one bedroomed flat 30 miles away so someone else can have their 2 bedroomed flat"

Yes I am suggesting that. We are spoon fed, there are those so desperate for any suitable housing. Any.
Yet youre entitled now to social housing the size of, and in the area you choose? We have a housing crisis.

I agree, the right to buy was ridiculous, but all of a sudden, all those needy tenants, managed to buy them? Doesnt that even register? I only know of Kathy Burke who gave her flat back, and quite possibly, simply because of the public spotlight. She defended her right to stay for years. But there are thousands, currently in social housing, who shouldnt beAre they crying over these videos

As Bob Crow once famously said, he had no moral obligation to leave his council house. There are thousands and thousands more just like him. Kathy Burke, finally did the honourable thing (but it took years) and gave her council flat back to the council. Many, the majority, dont

HelenaDove · 22/08/2019 16:31

Id love for her to do a programme about social housing next. And how residulisation has been fallen for hook line and sinker (as copied and pasted above)

Inappropriatefemale · 22/08/2019 16:36

I wasn’t asking about how SM managed to sign on with a mortgage I promise, I just wondered!

Inappropriatefemale · 22/08/2019 16:38

Sorry what I meant was that I wasn’t asking because it pissed me off or anything, I just wondered, it’s just that I thought you weren’t allowed to sign on if you had a mortgage although she wouldn’t have been asking for housing benefit, which is probably why I thought you weren’t able to sign on with bought house.

HelenaDove · 22/08/2019 16:41

Oh yes i realize that Thanks

I thought you were wondering why the DWP hadnt played the deprivation of capital card.

HelenaDove · 22/08/2019 16:49

I was clumsily trying to point out that a woman especially a working class one would find it hard to win this one.

a, spends all her wages from one acting job on a house and signs on. Some would say "well she should be living on that money not buying a house with it and then signing on.

b. doesnt buy a house and lives off the wage from said acting job instead instead of signing on. It would be "why hasnt she bought a house instead of renting Doesnt she know there is a housing crisis"

Im NOT saying anyone on this thread would say or think this But there are some on this site who would.

Im using it to try and point out that in SOME peoples eyes she would have been in the wrong no matter what she did As a woman.............a working class woman.

Oblomov19 · 22/08/2019 17:10

Will watch episode 2 tonight.

FoxFoxSierra · 22/08/2019 17:30

This place always goes bonkers over social housing! Afaik you can claim if you have a mortgage but housing benefit only kicks in after 13 weeks (iirc) and then it only covers the interest on the mortgage, not the actual repayments. As for deprivation of capital, a benefits adviser posted on another thread that paying out for a deposit would be allowed because it was going towards housing and security which wouldn't be treated the same as for example spunking thousands on a luxury cruise. Anyway this thread is about Kathy Burke who is an awesome human being!

HelenaDove · 22/08/2019 18:05

"Anyway this thread is about Kathy Burke who is an awesome human being"

Agreed.

baby2012lp · 22/08/2019 19:40

I definitely feel the need to know if she has had that mole on her cheek checked out. My life mission to find out if she has👍🏻🤞

loofascrub · 22/08/2019 19:40

I was surprised by her statement on being a feminist in that she had never really considered if she was or not. The whole programme is coming from a very feminist place. I suppose she's just never associated the word feminism with her viewpoint.

Theknacktoflying · 22/08/2019 22:08

Really sadly underwhelmed by last night’s programme .... just came over like some grump who could not see the fact that her choice came from a position of strength and choice.

Inappropriatefemale · 23/08/2019 02:47

I certainly don’t think like this with regards to the DWP, many moons ago I got caught working and claiming so I never judge with things like this, and I’m also working class, thought I’m upper working class! Haha Grin

Inappropriatefemale · 23/08/2019 02:47

though not thought

HelenaDove · 27/08/2019 22:46

.

Rosebud21 · 28/08/2019 22:37

sadly switched off last night as I couldn't listen to Kathy Burke's upward inflection (high-rising terminal or simply "uptalk"), drives me nuts!

Deathraystare · 29/08/2019 08:44

I liked her interview with the nuns!

Alsohuman · 29/08/2019 08:46

Damn. Missed it. Was it worth watching?
