It’s been a long 8 weeks!

I watched Mm YouTube video the other day and she was talking about her dad’s wedding so maybe her mum wanted to make a point that she’s getting married too. Maybe not but that’s what I thought. Wasn’t keen on MM mother.

I don’t mind MM either but I don’t want them to win

I'm surprised people thought Curtis's mum and dad were nice. I thought his mum seemed really fake and bitchy, I don't understand how she could get Maura's name wrong over and over again? She's been listening to it being said on the tele for weeks, seen it written on the screen, probably talking about her to people in real life since she's been coupled up with Curtis. She even called her the wrong name to her face when they were leaving!

Also loved how Mauras mum clearly didn't like Curtis but was just trying to be diplomatic

I was saying last night it was very strange that Curtis’ mum couldn’t say “Maura” after she must have been watching LI since Curtis went in and then Curtis told her about 3 or four times. I honestly thought she’s either stupid or rude.

Moira and maura are very similiar to be fair. Sometimes people just get stuck on names. I often get called the wrong name with a slight variation.
Say like a Suzanne being called Susan. I never correct them. I don't care! They usually remember and correct themselves after a while.

I think it was her PA way of snubbing Maura, whilst getting some attention.

Yy it's no wonder Curtis is so odd considering his awful parents.

It's made me very aware of my parenting!

Such an insight into why these poor young adults would want to spend the summer with the nation gawping at their backsides with parents like these.

I posted this on the last thread but my best mate watches the program/talks about it with me and people at work etc and she calls her Moria. I’ve done a Curtis and gone MAURA at her several times and she will say it right once then go straight back to Moira. She’s not thick, it’s just like she genuinely can’t hear the difference. It’s an issue she has with quite a few words/names and can sometimes be mega irritating but it’s defi not deliberate and she’s definitely not thick - far from it. I find it really weird that after being corrected repeatedly in some cases (not by me usually, I’ve learned to just roll with it I generally know what she means!) she’s still not able to say it right, but it’s just the way it is.

On the other hand I’ve an aunt that seems to enjoy coming up with alternative pronunciations for people’s names and sticking g to them even after being told the correct way, and in her case it’s quite deliberate rudeness. I’m more inclined to believe Curtis’ mum falls into this category but I suppose if you wanted to be generous you could say she might genuinely not hear the difference like my friend?

I found MM’s mum really unsettling.... It wasn’t so much the comments she made, as I put some of them down to nerves, such as ‘you dragged him up well.... etc. It was more the making a big thing of her engagement, almost trying to steel the limelight away from Molly. She could have easily not told her until after the show finished. She strikes me as someone who really wouldn’t cope well with having a famous daughter..... It must be very hard having a mum like that.

Maura’s Mum on the other hand was so supportive and loving whilst keeping a balance about everything. As Maura said, ‘you just need a hug from your mum for everything to be/feel ok’. This is so true.

Curtis father was also dreadful. He kept putting Curtis down and trying to be overpowering.

I agree with ThomasFurious that you can see why these young people end up thinking being a celebrity is all they could hope for when they have parents like this

Have now also voted Maura and Curtis on my other device (T & MM on phone) as I think Maura rescued this year. At this rate I'll vote for each of them and cancel my own vote.

I admit I only hear Moira when they're talking in the villa. Knew a Moira for years so Maura gets over-riden as I'm picturing Moira, iyswim?

I think that Moira and Maura are pretty much the same name in Ireland. I think that some people pronounce Maura as "Moira" in Ireland

MM's mum and Curtis's Dad definitely not nice. I have a bit more sympathy for Curtis now if he grew up with his dad insulting them the whole time.

MM - her mother seemed insulting and inappropriate. My own mother can be insulting but even she would never say to me that she wants my boyfriend and hug him for ages, commenting in how chiselled he is.

India - I thought her mum was a bit weird, and not caring of India - she was making it about her

When the parents were leaving did anyone notice Curtis' mother blatantly pointing at Maura's arse cheek and saying something to either Curtis or his dad about her tattoo? I think his mother would be an absolute nightmare MiL, she didn't come across well.
