Yes private I've just read about Peter McNamara now and came on the thread to post.

I watched him play doubles with Paul MacNamee at Wembley Arena in about 1985 and then saw him several times over the years at the RAH veterans.

Seemed like a lovely chap and a great player.
Very sad.

magimedi · 22/07/2019 16:45

Very sad. Lovely guy.

I haven't played tennis since I was 6 months pregnant with DS. And he's heading fast for 40!! Once I'd had kids it was really difficult to get courts, other people to play with etc so I went back to swimming. A much easier exercise in terms of arranging stuff!

Fizzywinegum · 22/07/2019 19:43

Tennis followed by cake sounds good Private - in fact I think I’d skip the tennis and go straight for the cake Grin

Definitely don’t give your DS a lift again kazza

Are you still sea swimming magi? We’ve got an outdoor pool not too far from us. I might try and go tomorrow but will need to get there early as it will be heaving.

Just heard the news about Peter McNamara at the beginning of the Tennis podcast - very sad.

PrivateIsles · 22/07/2019 20:25

I hear Mahut and PHH are getting the band back together for the US Open. Pleased to hear that, they were/are a brilliant team, I'm glad they didn't fall out.

I wonder whether Andy Murray will play the hardcourt tournaments? He and Lopez should team up again maybe.

Fizzy yes it's tempting to cut straight to the cake but it's a coaching session (well we mess about but there is a coach in charge of us Grin) so sadly we'd never get away with it! Cake

Haven't listened to the podcast yet, will have to tune in.

Outdoor pool sounds fab for tomorrow. I wish there was one near me! It's supposed to be boiling hot here this week Hmm not looking forward to that!

As well as making a light rain shower sound like a monsoon, the lean-to/outhouse also reaches temps of approx 50C as soon as the sun comes out. We are demolishing it soon (well not me personally - although that would be v satisfying Grin) but not soon enough IMO!

Anyway I'll stop rambling now.

Maybe Grin

Fizzywinegum · 22/07/2019 20:35

Outdoor pool is lovely Private but combination of hot weather and school holidays means that it will be very busy - I’ll try to get up early but not sure if that will happen Smile

The outdoor toilet sounds like more trouble than it’s worth Grin

I liked the Murray/Lopez combination

Raahh · 22/07/2019 20:50

Evening all!

Sad about McNamara.Sad

Bit of mixed feelings about Mahut and PHH, really. I hope ERV is unavailable and not just dumped, because other wise I'd be a bit upset. (He was distraught after the Wimbledon final). After all, PHH was quick to get together with Murray, even though he was supposed to focusing on singles HmmGrin. But I love Mahut, so for his sake I hope it works out.

Swimming involves tackling the forest that is growing on my legs, I can't inflict that on the general public. I am hairier than the dog. And he's a very hairy schnauzer. I have promised to take dd2. I will be brave. Grin.

We had a sort-of tornado round here on Friday. I noticed the rain (torrential) but missed the 'wind tunnel'. It blew trees up, apparently. My gate fell off, but that was a coincidence (rotten hinges) Grin

Sea swimming daily - it is the joy of my life. Better than Tennis!!!!!!!!!!!!

PrivateIsles · 23/07/2019 10:54

Raahh I hear you about the deforestation - such a pain. Those full length Victorian bathing costumes had a lot to recommend them in some ways! Grin

Feeling Envy at all of your swimming exploits today - enjoy!

Raahh · 23/07/2019 11:19

Private I am very much a winter person. My legs rarely see the light of day, even in the summer. Grin.

PrivateIsles · 23/07/2019 13:27

Me too Raahh. I'm looking at an autumn garden catalogue as we speak Grin

Meanwhile good to see Rafa has started practicing on hard courts - only 35 days until the US Open starts!

PrivateIsles · 23/07/2019 14:22

According to the Yachting Times Grin (which I don't read - saw it on twitter) Rafa is taking delivery of his new yacht next year.

All right for some.

Envy
PrivateIsles · 23/07/2019 14:24

Oh sorry it was the Super Yacht Times.

I do read that, obviously Grin

Raahh · 23/07/2019 14:33

I saw a picture of him practicing- so long as he doesn't injure anything.

A new yacht. Can't be bad Grin.

Fizzywinegum · 23/07/2019 14:55

I want to be on Rafa’s yacht! He must have been trading his old one in for a newer model. Doesn’t everyone read Super Yacht Times Grin?

I managed my early morning swim - it was nice and not too busy. It’s very hot here now and I don’t quite know what to do with myself - it’s supposed to be getting hotter over the next few days as well Shock

I am also more of an autumn/winter person - roll on September and the US Open (although I’ve realised that I’m away for the second week - I really need to stop booking holidays when the slams are on - should be able to watch it on prime though)

PrivateIsles · 23/07/2019 15:01

I know! There was a picture of it. It was about twice the size of my actual house Grin (outhouse not included - well you can't have everything Rafa).

I know what you mean about injuries. I often feel the same about Delpo - ie, it's better if he doesn't play because of the risk. But then he'd never play at all Grin So it's a bit of a vicious circle.

Although I've gone off Delpo a bit since those soppy photos Grin - well not really. But I need some new faves, much as I love JMDP. Goffin could take over but then he'd be cursed forever.

Sigh.

PrivateIsles · 23/07/2019 15:04

Fizzy yes I bet Super Yacht Times doesn't have a very big readership!! Yes Rafa must have been upgrading Shock

Your swim sounds lovely. It's boiling here as well. Far too hot!

kazzaD66 · 24/07/2019 08:35

Oh to be on a super yacht now!
It's boiling already this morning.
Spectacular lightening last night!

I see things are going from bad to worse for Dimitrov. He's lost in the first round in Atlanta, straight sets to Kevin King (me neither Hmm ) - 405 in the world Confused. What is going on with Grigor? Sad

witheringrowan · 24/07/2019 08:55

Andy & Jamie are playing doubles together next week in Washington! Also Kyrgios and Tsitsipas which could be amazing or a complete hot mess.

JaneJeffer · 24/07/2019 09:57

Maybe Stef can share some of his philosophical musings with Dick.

JaneJeffer · 24/07/2019 09:59

I wish I could watch Hamburg. Some good matches today.

PrivateIsles · 24/07/2019 10:07

Jane I think it's lovely that Sascha is playing in Hamburg - probably just what he needs at the mo being on his own turf (or clay). I'm going to try and watch a bit later.

PrivateIsles · 24/07/2019 10:09

withering yes that's great about the Murray bros! Looking forward to seeing some of that hopefully (am sure Amazon will cover the doubles in this case!). As for Kyrgios and Tsitsipas - well, Stef must be a very nice forgiving person, is all I can say to that.

JaneJeffer · 24/07/2019 10:11

I hope he does well. I don't want him doing a Grigor Sad I expect Domi to be the main man in Hamburg though.

PrivateIsles · 24/07/2019 10:17

kazza we also had a huge storm here - but nobody in our house woke up except me Hmm

What is going on with Grigor?!? Shock That's a shocker of a result isn't it? I really hope he can turn things round, it's a shame he and Agassi weren't together longer, Andre could have given him some good advice on coming back from the brink!

Sorry for the multiple posts - everyone's previous posts are showing in a totally random order and I missed half of them Hmm
Tennis

JaneJeffer · 24/07/2019 10:19

It's fine on the app Private but I've seen the complaints about threads being all mixed up. Very strange.
