I’ve reached that point where I’ve been sat on the settee for too long and can’t be bothered to move - tennis torpor.

I need to think about making some food. It’s a new recipe which looks easy but could turn into something complicated (like Private’s sludge Grin)

RebootYourEngine · 02/07/2019 18:34

Jane Grin

PrivateIsles · 02/07/2019 18:34

Grin Is it an alleged "quick weeknight dinner" Fizzy?! Steer clear!!

OP posts:
Raahh · 02/07/2019 18:35

I feel a bit numb - and as I can't reach the floor (short legs) I have pins and needles in my feet. Grin

But he's won. Hurrah! Wobbly start, but all's well in the end.

JaneJeffer · 02/07/2019 18:35

tennis torpor love that! Unfortunately I have to get up now.

Well done Rafa. What a relief.

PrivateIsles · 02/07/2019 18:35

Poor Shaggy. He hasn't had a good few months has he?

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 02/07/2019 18:37

Yes that’s what’s worrying me Private Smile

Well done Rafa - phew. Can’t wait until Thursday (not!) - they’ve mentioned Kyrgios about a million times already!

Raahh · 02/07/2019 18:37

They are putting another match on- that wasn't on the schedule was it? But a bonus for Vekic.

Raahh · 02/07/2019 18:39

Why do they keep asking him such stupid questions? Hmm

Raahh · 02/07/2019 18:42

Rafa needs a t-shirt

'Don't ask me about Kyrgios'

I don't think Rafa cares much about the little twerp- why should he care?Kyrgios has a very over inflated sense of his own importance ,

PrivateIsles · 02/07/2019 18:45

Exactly Raahh I'm sure Rafa has other things to concern himself with. I hope he absolutely smashes it on Thursday.

Paul Jubb is great - hope he can put that first set aside and give a good account of himself. Great story.

OP posts:
Raahh · 02/07/2019 18:48

Private I love Jubb's story, and the fact he has avoided sounding American despite doing the college circuit there. Heather Watson failed in this. Grin

And he's from Yorkshire. Grin.

Raahh · 02/07/2019 18:50

(Heather didn't do the college thing, but she did train there. Early on, she had a very trans atlantic accent at times. ).

PrivateIsles · 02/07/2019 18:52

Having said all that, I've switched to Fabio v Tiafoe - some good rallies so far. Tiafoe is wearing a weird shirt - with a sort of knitted pattern on it. It looks like one of those sleeveless jumpers that Jeremy Bates used to wear Hmm

OP posts:
Raahh · 02/07/2019 18:53

Ahh, Jezza. Remember how excited everyone used to get when he made it past the first round Grin.

Raahh · 02/07/2019 18:54

The Cilic match is close- 4-4 in the tie break in the first set.

Cilic in danger of getting time violations with all his ball bouncing.

Pull it together, Marin.

PrivateIsles · 02/07/2019 18:55

Sure do! Remember when he nearly beat Guy Forget - but someone in the crowd sneezed and put him off his serve?

What does he do these days anyway? He seems like someone who'd be a decent commentator - but he's probably too sensible Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 02/07/2019 18:56

Oh, I imagine he talks too much sense to join AC and friends.

Has Tiafoe got lost? Grin

PrivateIsles · 02/07/2019 18:58

Tiafoe is having a bathroom break but I CBA to switch to something else (lazy).

OP posts:
PrivateIsles · 02/07/2019 18:59

he talks too much sense
Grin probably - that violates the job description.

OP posts:
Raahh · 02/07/2019 19:00

The commentators are getting a bit annoyed with Cilic.
The Umpire on the Cilic match is Barnardes, I think.

If he was umpiring Rafa, he would have no qualms about dishing out time violations.

Didn't he give Rafa one before he had even started his match, in one of his matches at Wimbledon last year?

kazzaD66 · 02/07/2019 19:19

Kazza's Taxis back home now private Grin DH will pick up DS from tennis on his way home from work, so I can settle down to watch Jubb now.

Jezza Bates is something like head of women's tennis at the LTA. We saw him at La Manga two years ago, on hols with his wife. DS did the tennis camp and won the tournament at the end of the week but was too shy to ask Jezza to sign his winner's certificate. DH asked him instead when he saw him round the pool one day. He was very nice about it, signed it with a message and wished DS well with his tennis.

He also played in the club's pros exhibition match, with the older head pro, against two younger pros, who were probably 35 years younger than him. Jezza just toyed with them. He could have played with one hand behind his back and still blown them off the court. Just illustrates the huge gulf between the actual professional tennis players (even the middling ones who are now in their late 50's) and the rest Grin

PrivateIsles · 02/07/2019 19:33

That's fab kazza - your DS sounds like a v talented chap!

Jezza also sounds great - yep he's obviously far too good for commentating! That's really interesting about him playing the coaches. The woman who coaches at our club is absolutely brilliant, she's only in her mid-20s and she's taught me more stuff in a handful of sessions than I've learnt over many years of playing! We were saying she should go in for qualifying at a WTA tournament and she just laughed at us and said she'd be nowhere near good enough!! The standard is unreal and those lower ranked players just don't get the money/funding that they should.

OP posts:
PrivateIsles · 02/07/2019 19:35

Ooh Tiafoe has broken back in this set - 4-4 now

OP posts:
PrivateIsles · 02/07/2019 19:40

And he's won the fourth set Shock

I knew this was going to be a classic!! Grin
