Fizzy yes I wish the Mac programme was this afternoon as well - would be much better!

JaneJeffer · 30/06/2019 10:12

Thanks Private.

Excited...

Fizzywinegum · 30/06/2019 10:54

Thanks for new thread Private - good timing.

I’ve just seen there’s a review of Wimbledon 2018 on bbc2 at 1pm followed by the all creatures great and small film - that’s my afternoon sorted Grin

magimedi · 30/06/2019 11:22

Thanks, Private. Counting down the hours...................

And thanks for the heads up about the WImbledon 2018 - that's me sorted.

Might have to have a snooze first - so hot here last night & DH was doing porcine imitations!

magimedi · 30/06/2019 11:24

And have just seen that there is a documentary about Wimbledon's greatest rivals on after the 2018 review.

Raahh · 30/06/2019 11:57

Thanks for the thread Private.

And brilliant picture at the end of the last one.

I have discovered that for various reasons this week, my Wimbledon viewing will be sporadic. I am not happy about this. I am going to hope Rafa's match on Tuesday (I'm guessin git will be Tuesday) is scheduled later rather than early.

The rest of the week is very hit and miss- including the dreaded sports day afternoon on Wednesday. Grin. At least this year it looks like it will be considerably cooler than the last one.

I am excited about the tournament but really nervous too. I do want Rafa to do well- he's lost to Cilic and Pouille in his brief warm up event. There is a horrible feeling of inevitability that Fed will get to the final, especially given the draw he has- but if he meets Djok there, I'm not convinced he will win.

It will be a repeat of 2014/15- where I wasn't fussed about either, and only supported Fed over Djok because of the Edberg connection Grin. This year , if it comes to it, they can knock each other out .Grin

So- if it's not going to be Rafa- which realisitically, it is unlikely to be- I want Stan, Stefanos or Gulbis Grinto win. I would say Cilic, but he has to beat Rafa to get that far ( but then, Rafa has to get to that stage too).

Most importantly, Jordan Thompson needs to beat Kyrgios. For the sake of the tournament. box office, my arse

Something that might go against Djok getting that far , though- is the whole ATP /Gimelstob /player council thing has blown up again over the past couple of days, with a few players resigning. (Jamie Murray, Robin Haase). Gimelstob has been replaced, temporarily, by someone a lot feel is just a puppet for him.

This might be something that will mess with Djok;'s head, as it did at the beginning of the year.

Just need a couple of journalists to mention it in his press conference and rattle him a bit. Grin

PrivateIsles · 30/06/2019 12:45

Raahh I was just reading about this ATP council business, and how even Stakhovsky has resigned - and he's been on the council forever. Apparently there was a seven hour meeting on Friday! I wonder if it will affect Djok? After what happened last time, it's possible. Maybe Kohlschreiber can take the opportunity (again)??

The order of play is put for tomorrow with Edmund on CC and Venus on Court 1 Hmm

Grigor v Moutet, which I think should be good, is on court 15!

I have a feeling that we are going to get a new champ, men's and women's... But I always think stuff like that and it's just wishful thinking tbh Grin

If it can't be Rafa I agree with your back up choices Raahh... but I fear for Tsitsipas if he has to play Medvedev.

OP posts:
Raahh · 30/06/2019 13:41

I do wonder how Stef will do against Medvedev, but fingers crossed.

The timing of the whole ATP thing couldn't be better for Fed, really, if Djok does end up affected by it. Which makes the cynic in me wonder...Grin.

Stakhovsky, eh? Funny how his win over Roger doesn't get mentioned very often- and he was the defending champion that year.

Edmund on CC, eh? Well, I guess he is the British number 1. It might be his only chance.

I'd have put Venus on there though- it's a big story, playing the young Cori Gauff- she's nearly 25 years older than her. It could be a total bagelfest. Or it might be the match of the day.

Fizzywinegum · 30/06/2019 13:50

AC talking about the rules of commentary - he breaks everyone of them Grin

Nice to see a few shots of the cabbage white butterfly but not the John Isner ladybird!

Seeing the end of the Rafa/Delpo match made me all emotional Sad

Raahh · 30/06/2019 14:25

I think I've seen this Talking Tennis- Rivals show before. I like Alistair McGowan's narration. He has just described Sampras as ...boring Grin.

MajesticWhine · 30/06/2019 15:26

My seats are court 2. first up at 11.00 is Stan. Also will be seeing Plíšková.

PrivateIsles · 30/06/2019 15:43

Court 2 looks great for tomorrow Majestic - I think I'd rather be there than CC!

OP posts:
Raahh · 30/06/2019 16:03

Private it does look better- they've got Tsitsipas and Wozniacki, on there too. I know where I'd rather be (but my front room will have to do for now Grin).

I mean, if someone gave me tickets to see Djok on CC tomorrow, I wouldn't argueGrin. (Not that I could get there, but that's beside the point Grin.

Heck, I'd even watch Nick.

PrivateIsles · 30/06/2019 16:18

Fizzy I caught a bit of the All Creatures Great and Small film - a bit disappointed there was no Peter Davison Grin but apart from that I enjoyed it! I like Simon Ward.

Have just started watching the review of last year...

OP posts:
PrivateIsles · 30/06/2019 16:19

Blimey, I'd forgotten about so many of these matches!

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 30/06/2019 16:23

Yes Court 2 does look good with Stan and Tsitsipas.

Not sure if I would watch Kyrgios even if I was given a ticket Raahh Grin

I’m going to try for tickets for next year. DH usually tries in the ballot but “forgot” this year Confused so I’m taking charge.

I’ve been a few times but never seen Rafa - he’s always on the opposite court to the one we had tickets for Sad. Wimbledon is such a lovely place to visit but I would love to see Rafa.

PrivateIsles · 30/06/2019 16:28

Being a Wimbledon gardener looks like a lovely job.

OP posts:
mama1980 · 30/06/2019 16:30

I could definitely be a gardener there Smile
Has anyone else seen Stan's tweets today? - very funny.

PrivateIsles · 30/06/2019 16:36

Fizzy yes you'll have to go into the ballot for next year!

OP posts:
Raahh · 30/06/2019 16:41

ok, maybe watching Nick would be pushing it.

I'd just be happy to be there ,I suppose.

Grin
Raahh · 30/06/2019 16:47

mama is that the ' Roger fans- centre court is this way' one ? Grin

PrivateIsles · 30/06/2019 16:47

I knew it was too good to last Hmm DS turned up and wanted to watch something so I was ousted. I'm too much of a pushover Hmm

mama I just looked at Stan's tweets Grin I liked that he put #joking afterwards so people didn't start wondering if he'd fallen out with Roger Grin

Also I see Goran is working with Djok for Wimbledon...

OP posts:
TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 30/06/2019 16:51

Just checking in.

Fizzywinegum · 30/06/2019 16:54

Oh that’s interesting about Goran and Djok - can’t really imagine them together. (Goran has got a sense of humour!)

You have to watch the Andrew Castle bit on the Wimbledon review Private - it’s (unintentionally) hilarious Smile

I’ve made my viewing intentions for the next fortnight very clear to my family!
