AnyaMumsnet can you tell us which posts are subtly racist?

Because I cant see it. I am sure no one wants to be racist subtly or other wise.

Is it the fact that people are saying they dont like Yewande.

Lots of people are saying very similar things about the contestants.

I also cant see where comments have been deleted.

ChipsAreLife · 19/06/2019 11:05

I've been lurking but I can't see anything racist at all?! Possibly the comparison with Samira?!

Anyway Yewande is not for this show based on her personality! she has no spark and seems to just sit and stare mainly. At least Anna has something about her. I think Danny is at least trying but she's having none of it!!

Quite like MM and Tommy together, I don't get the vibe Lucie fancies him but it's hard to tell as you don't see much.

I hope Lucie stays and finds someone else, and Anton too.

There just seems to be no fun or banter this year.

Also why aren't they using the hideaway bed now that they've run out?!

unique1986 · 19/06/2019 11:11

Not sure I want to see an hour of Lucie crying and deciding whether to walk or not.............

Chipstick10 · 19/06/2019 11:15

are any of the contestants really enjoying it? It seems too heavily controlled. There is no flow and the girls are really bitchy this year snd dull. Thank goodness for Maura and MM.
FYI I can’t see any problem with this thread at all.

unique1986 · 19/06/2019 11:21

Its always been so staged.
That is the main issue I have.

Bluntness100 · 19/06/2019 11:22

I am also bemused by the racism accusations. All contestants are discussed equally. The colour of their skin, or their ethnicity is irrelevant. Totally irrelevant. The contestants from what I can see are discussed as people. Individuals.

I'd also be curious to know where this has been seen?

Yamayo · 19/06/2019 11:24

I thought Lucie looked a little upset when MM was talking about her kiss with Tommy.

I'm with you there. They zoomed in on her when the kiss happened. Then a few times when MM was talking about it with the girls.
Maybe they have a long term gameplan of Lucie and Tommy as star-crossed lovers? Grin

Same thing happened on Australia LI and it made for great TV.

Proteinshakesandtears · 19/06/2019 11:31

Bluntness100 I suspect we wont get an answer.

Reading between the lines the message from HQ seems to be 'this thread has been reported claiming theres subtle racism. We dont agree, so havent deleted anything. But please be careful you dont cross that line'.

I can only assume it's over the claims people are bashing Yewande and also wouldnt like her if she had an attitude like Maura.

I assumed, that poster was hinting that people who arent terribly keen on Yewande, feel that way because of her skin colour.

Where as I cant see anyone who has even hinted her skin colour, rather than her personality is why they arent keen on her.

TatianaLarina · 19/06/2019 11:41

To be fair, there is ime, quite a lot of racism on these forums subtle and otherwise. It’s hard to avoid on threads about Meghan for example.

I have no idea what the racial bias is behind other people’s comments, I can only say I’m more than aware of the difficulties for black contestants on this show. No-one stepped forward for Marcel or Samira or Sherif or Yewande afair. Samira’s entire storyline with Frankie was edited out last year, which I think is pretty extraordinary.

This year I think it’s unfortunate that as a personality Yewande is not particularly outgoing or confident.

Phoningliz · 19/06/2019 11:41

This type of discussion can attract subtly racist posts, which we delete.

Unbelievable after the whole caravan title.

Phoningliz · 19/06/2019 11:43

I feel sorry for Yewande in her relationship with Danny because either her insecurities are kicking in, or her intuition is telling her that whatever he is saying or doing, he's not really in to her. And I think a lot of us are thinking the same.

I also feel for Danny, he's doing exactly what the show is set up - act like a convincing couple! His behaviour has been impeccable, I think, from what we've seen.

Proteinshakesandtears · 19/06/2019 11:53

Samira’s entire storyline with Frankie was edited out last year, which I think is pretty extraordinary.

Whilst I agree that there is some bias in the show and contestant who are black have struggled more. I dont agree they edited frankie and Samira out. It was near the end and there wasnt that much to their relationship. It was very short, he left then she did. But that's just my perspective.

However, that doesnt actually mean these threads are. I love Samira last year, I thought she was great. But I am not a fan of Yewande. I think is should be able to say that without being accused of subtle racism. Just like I am not a fan of Maura or Elma.

MN has a very bad history of dealing with bigoted comments towards Irish people in general. I reported a derogatory term for Irish people used on another thread a few weeks ago. It took 7 hours and several reports, 2 from me, to be taken down.

So it feels odd that we are being warned, without actually letting us know what has been said. And I cant see any comments that have been deleted on this thread or on the last few pages of thread 6.

For me it feels odd that MN can take so long to delete some comments, but take the time to pre warn us about our opinions on this one.

I gave only been on the last 2 threads, so I didnt see a caravan title.

Sagradafamiliar · 19/06/2019 12:07

Don't personalise my comments protein I wasn't directly addressing you I was talking about the general bashing Yewande gets.

Sagradafamiliar · 19/06/2019 12:10

Tatiana then I suggest you actually read the posts I was referring to if they are still there.

Agreed. Very odd.

Sagradafamiliar · 19/06/2019 12:14

Oh I see MN has addressed this now. I didn't report btw.

I thought Lucie looked chuffed for Tommy over the kiss. I love their friendship

ChipsAreLife · 19/06/2019 12:23

Did Anton and Elma vote for Lucie and Joe? I'm just wondering who Lucie was talking to when she said 'you and Anton are the only ones I trust' if she found out Tommy voted I think she will pissed

ziggiestardust · 19/06/2019 12:24

I actually don’t think Yewande is in to Danny at all. She just doesn’t want to incur the wrath of the AAA clique by rejecting him. Right now, whilst she’s coupled up with Danny no one sees her as a threat. That was useful last night because they definitely should have been part of the vote and at risk; their friendships with the other couples saved them IMO.

For me, she continually rejects Danny’s advances; she offers her cheek to his kisses, she kept turning away from the food passing challenge (which I known it was a bit gross but everyone else was getting into it, it wouldn’t have reflected badly on her), and when she’s sat with him she’s always got her back semi turned on him... like, her shoulder creates a physical barrier between them. Even a very shy/reserved person would reciprocate a little bit. I don’t think I’ve seen her sit face to face with him yet without some kind of barrier placed by her between them.

When she asked him if he could have his head turned; I think she was a bit frustrated. I think she’d quite like a blame free way out where Danny goes off with someone else, filled with guilt and apologies so she can be free of him.

Proteinshakesandtears · 19/06/2019 12:26

Don't personalise my commentsproteinI wasn't directly addressing you I was talking about the general bashing Yewande gets.

I know. Because I havent bashed her. But I will address you comment that hinted that peoples dislike was based on her Race, not on her personality. Because I think you are wrong. And that's the only hint at racism I have seen.

You dont get to tell me which posts I can and can not address

And you didnt report, but think the comments you challenged arent there anymore and the ones they are talking about. Coincidence?

I dont really think anyone cares who reported it. But if there is racism we are not aware of, surely it would be better to tell the people what they said that has been classed as subtle racism.

Or towards black people IME

Yes, sorry, I wasnt saying only Irish. If that's how it came across. Just talking about the context of my example.

Sagradafamiliar · 19/06/2019 12:27

You asked me how what you said was bashing. Yet I wasn't referring to anything you said :/

DrCristinaYang · 19/06/2019 12:27

Anyone seen that Joe has been taken to a safe house since leaving the villa?
Apparently he has been brought there to help him deal with the backlash against him.

AnyaMumsnet · 19/06/2019 12:30

Hi there all,

We're happy to clarify a bit further. We've had a couple of reports about racism on this thread, but also on earlier Love Island threads too. We couldn't see anything on this thread, but as you some of you may know, there have been racist posts about Love Island contestants before, so it's something we'd like to keep an eye on.

As a few posters have mentioned, it's impossible for us to know for sure about the intentions of posters for sure, but there's always a chance of dogwhistle racism - which we'd like do our best to nip in the bud. We're not suggesting anyone has posted anything racist on this thread yet, but it's just something to keep an eye on going forward, as Love Island does highlight these issues from time to time.

Hope this is all clear now.

Sagradafamiliar · 19/06/2019 12:31

As for the rest of your post, protein, I don't answer to you so don't presume I should explain myself. I had to explain how the traveller posts were racist, I'm not also explaining other instances of racism yet again. It's not my job.
I'm enjoying the thread and will report prejudice from now on and ignore, as others clearly have :)

You asked me how what you said was bashing. Yet I wasn't referring to anything you said

I dont think anyone has bashed her. They have had an opinion. In my opinion what you said doesnt apply to anyone on this thread. No one has bashed her
