Hello folks

Our Finale thread is getting close to full and the discussion is still going strong, so here's a shiny new space to continue with our theories and comments.

In our version of the GoT universe, where has Drogon taken Dany?

Went to the exhibition this afternoon - it was fantastic, loved it. Can't get over how tiny the actresses must be though, when you see their dresses. Margery in particular has the tiniest waist!

Loved seeing the throne and love that you can sit on it for photos! Well worth a visit!

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 30/05/2019 21:10

Just watched the documentary. Loved it. Even confirmed GOT-hater DH (he simply doesn’t like drama at all with very few exceptions involving Jean-Claude Van Damme or car chases) got sucked in and admitted that it kind of made him want to watch the show.

I cried buckets at makeup woman’s daughter coming for a visit and being dressed up as a wildling for the final scene, and also at Vlad getting his chance to be a big movie star in Spain. Vlad has the best of both worlds for the rest of his life: the press and public will leave him alone when he wants to be left alone, but any time he wants adulation and a big cheque he can go to a GOT convention, sign photos and do photo ops.

RogueV · 30/05/2019 21:53

I noticed that too Strawberrypancakes - is Jon Snow the character meant to 12 in the first episode? (I haven’t read the books)

Kit is 32 now so will have started the show age 24?

SpeedyBojangles · 30/05/2019 23:10

Rogue, Jon is 15 in the first book.

BlackCatSleeping · 31/05/2019 05:53

The documentary was so nice to watch. So many people put so much into it. It was good to get a chance to see that.

Such an amazing show!!

What was it like irl? SO jealous!

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 31/05/2019 11:09

You didn't get to sit on the one from the show (that was behind a barrier) but they had 2 replicas at the end - one where they also had the sword and an official photographer (£10 per photo) and then another you could just sit in and take your own picture. It was great - much bigger than I expected & I felt very small sitting on it as my feet didn't even come close to touching the floor (& I'm average height- 5ft 5). Loved it!

AuntieMarys · 31/05/2019 11:26

I have some great photos of me in the throne! A lot of the staff had been extras

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 31/05/2019 11:32

‘On the throne’ (childish snigger)

agirlhasnonameX · 31/05/2019 11:40

- much bigger than I expected
This is what I wondered!!! I'd have been a total sad act and brought a crown for my picture 😂

Have been talking about going for a long time and have just never got round to it. I've spent the past 8 years fantasising about being a GoT extra so this is probably as close as I'd get Blush

OneInAMillionYou · 01/06/2019 02:33

I've just watched the documentary. While I found it interesting, I thought it was a wasted opportunity.

We saw hardly anything of the cast, very few interviews and nothing from D&D.

The people all seemed very nice but I couldn't care less about some random hairdresser or cheese toastie lady, they were given far too much air time.

Thought the table reads were the best, plus access to the episode directors and filming/rehearsals. Andy the extra was very nice and clearly a character but did he need to be featured quite so much?
I wanted to see more of Maisie and Sophie. I loved the sections with the Night King, he was very funny.

Best bit was Kit's final speech. Especially in the light of what has happened since. Get well soon, Kit.

I think the documentary was a way to thank the unsung heroes of GOTs the people who worked for 10years but don't get the recognition.

I thought it was nicely done over the years to come we will hear lots from the actors and writers ect, this was about the rest an acknowledgement of how many people put their time and effort into making the show all that it was.

Honeyroar · 01/06/2019 02:59

Yes I really felt for some of them, who have put a decade of their life into GOT and now have to walk away. It made me feel bad winging about the wait between series when I saw how much work was put in.

And I so want to do the bus tour with that extra at the end they showed!

Honeyroar · 01/06/2019 03:04

What was the exhibition like? What was there? Are there sets there? I'm really torn between coming over to see the exhibition this summer or waiting until the permanent one is built next year..

BlackCatSleeping · 01/06/2019 06:17

If you go to:

www.makinggameofthrones.com/

They have loads of interviews with the cast and talk about their characters.

SweetSummerchild · 01/06/2019 12:50

Thank you DH for my ‘Now my Watch has Ended’ present...

GAME OF THRONES. SEASON 8. WRAP UP.
Honeyroar · 01/06/2019 12:53

That’s brilliant SweetSummerchild. Have you seen the special edition White Walker whiskies by Johnny Walker too?

SweetSummerchild · 01/06/2019 15:29

@Honeyroar yes, DH and I were looking through all the special edition Whiskeys last weekend.

DH has ordered the Targaryan one (Cardhu) and the Stark one (Dalwhinnie) but they haven’t been released yet.

A love of both single malt and GOT can prove to be very expensive!

AuntieMarys · 01/06/2019 15:33

honeyroar lots of costumes and sets

Finally got round to watching the documentary - I loved it. There's no shortage of TV interviews/magazine features/convention panels out there for the main cast so I love seeing the behind the scenes stuff with the people who don't get interviewed and to see the odd sights like men in prosthetics with green noses queuing for toasties... The infrastructure bead phenomenal! And I had no idea 'head of snow' was a job - would have loved to here more about how he got from leaving a children's home with 300 quid to there. It really got across how the faces of the show are such tiny cogs in the whole thing - I mean 7 months is set building before the actors made it to the king's landing scenes! I did like the set read through though and the contrast with how much more basic the season 1 read-through was.

SweetSummerchild · 07/06/2019 16:49

So, hope everyone is well and finding new and productive ways of stimulating the grey matter rather than pontificating over D&D’s mediocre writing.

It is a wet Friday afternoon and, truly bored, decided to go on one final ‘internet journey’ through the fandom. I was led to this thread from 2011 - back in the heady days of season 1 when all we had to complain about was Ros and the fact that Peter Dinklage was too handsome. It makes for 28 pages of fascinating reading - it’s strange to think that Mad Queen Dany was considered such heresy.

asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?/topic/59602-adwd-spoilers-dany-the-mad-queen/

Anyway, I have thoroughly enjoyed all the musings on these threads. Thank you for the great debates. X

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 07/06/2019 19:02

Wow, that's fab @SweetSummerchild

JAPAB · 07/06/2019 20:29

Just finished s8. Delayed watching it as I was watching the whole thing from the beginning amd didn't want to start s8 while in the middle of s6 OYSWIM.

Anyway, I remember reading that the producers had a two hour meetting with GRRM where he told them all the endings of the characters. They said that the Hold The Door origin of Hodor was the most surprising thing they heard.

Well, I never would have guessed that by the end we'd have King Bran, Dany turning into an 11th hour villan, and getting murdered by Jon.

That has to be one of the biggest fake outs I can think of in a series. Throughout we were meant to think Dany was the goodie and would one day take back the throne (weren't we?)

JAPAB · 07/06/2019 20:34

On another note, how do dragons stay airborne when they only give a slow, leisuly flap of the wings every so often.

Also how did itb take the dead so long to get to the wall? For years they have warned that the dead are coming. I know zombies are slow but surely they can walk faster than that.
