Hello folks

Our Finale thread is getting close to full and the discussion is still going strong, so here's a shiny new space to continue with our theories and comments.

In our version of the GoT universe, where has Drogon taken Dany?

The irony of this being that no one (and I’m not talking about Arya) knelt when Dany arrived in Winterfell in episode 1.

They must all have had Bran’s gift of foresight...

itswinetime · 24/05/2019 15:41

There was a moment I caught on my pre finale re-watch. As Jon and Danny arrive the northerners are curious but not in awe Danny looks uncomfortable and unhappy to the dragons fly overhead the people including lots of children start screaming there is obvious fear and Danny just looks up and smirks a nice little bit of build up I thought

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 24/05/2019 17:11

With all the black outs on the last episode there was a point where I was thinking ‘I don’t care any more... finish already’.

MoominMantra · 24/05/2019 22:14

My friend said he thought Drogon destroyed the throne so that if Dany couldn't have it nobody else could. Thoughts on this?

SpeedyBojangles · 24/05/2019 22:22

This is the most chilling scene from the whole series I think. Drogon just appearing from the darkness. Very well shot.

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 24/05/2019 22:36

I like that theory @MoominMantra

I don't think, as intelligent as they are, dragons have the mental capacity to understand that a chair symbolises power and led to Dani's demise. I think he was just venting rage and grief and the Throne happened to be there, but they did make it look as though he specifically targeted it.

MyOtherProfile · 25/05/2019 20:43

Missing the chat already. Not that I ever contributed much but I do follow. Then it dawned on me that there won't probably be much more chat since there won't be any more shows. Maybe when the final books come out...

MoominMantra · 25/05/2019 21:05

There may be a prequel though?

MyOtherProfile · 25/05/2019 21:12

I can but hope. Smile

MsMarvellous · 25/05/2019 22:24

I'm rewatching from the start and have hit season 5. Forgot how it felt like the Sparrows came from nowhere!

OneInAMillionYou · 26/05/2019 00:49

Oh I hated the Sparrows MsMarvellous what a plodding plot that was! Loved The Winds of Winter when Cersei blew the lot of them up!

This time last week we were all so excited and full of anticipation for the finale... I think I would have bet my house against Bran becoming King.

SweetSummerchild · 26/05/2019 11:39

I remember looking on Oddschecker before the season started to look at the betting odds on various characters becoming king/queen. Bran was always the bookies favourite. I’m guessing they had some ‘insider’ knowledge from someone in production.

I remember thinking it made absolutely no sense. It still makes absolutely no sense. Admittedly, there are many clues there in the books, but the show did an incredibly poor job of putting it all together.

BlackCatSleeping · 26/05/2019 11:46

I thought the way the show set up Bran to be king was quite clever actually. That line where he says he can't be Lord of Winterfell (because he will be king) and his complete and utter lack of concern about his life when the NK came to kill him under the tree, because he knew it wasn't his fate to die.

Abra1de · 26/05/2019 14:25

I feel a bit sorry for poor old Theon, then, giving up his life for BRan. THough maybe Theon needed to do that, for his own sake.

WishingILivedOnAnIsland · 26/05/2019 14:31

@MoominMantra I thought Drogon destroying the throne was about him blaming ambition and obsession with the throne for Dany's death. He looked like he was going to burn Jon for killing Dany but then seemed to decide it was the pursuit of the throne itself which cost her everything and eventually killed her.

I don't know how insightful dragons are meant to be though 😂

SweetSummerchild · 26/05/2019 14:51

WishingILivedOnAnIsland I think you’re overthinking this. Drogon destroyed the throne because D&D thought it would ‘look good’. It’s the same reasoning as the pointless Dothraki charge towards death in episode 3 and Arya’s disappearing pale horse in episode 5. It’s all about the visual effect and sod the storytelling.

I hated the dragon melting the throne. I thought it took away from the human decision to destroy the symbol of Aegon’s conquest through the power of the dragons. I’d rather it had been the first decision of the small council rather than a stupid argument about funding brothels.

Think there’s a special on tonight about the making of either final episode or last season. Will hopefully be an interesting watch.

Tonight
Game of Thrones: The Last Watch
9pm-11.10pm
Sky Atlantic

Go behind the scenes on the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones in an unprecedented look at what it took to create the biggest TV show in the world.

Oh dear, I was hoping for an early night!

Does anyone know if this will go onto the Now TV box as a catch up thing?

GenderApostate19 · 27/05/2019 22:08

I’ve already watched it on Now tv this afternoon.
I’m upset that there hasn’t been a ‘Game revealed’ for episode 6 though. I’ve enjoyed them as much as the series.

agirlhasnonameX · 27/05/2019 22:24

Anyone have any idea why this is? Can't find any info about it.

IHeartArya · 27/05/2019 23:43

Thought that was very interesting. I’d liked more of the casts reaction to the ending though Wink

Honeyroar · 28/05/2019 00:02

I really enjoyed that HBO behind the scenes documentary. It made us want to go to Ireland and do the tour! I’m missing it already. We waited sooo long for the last season and it was over in a flash.

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 28/05/2019 07:33

Where can you find the behind the scenes episode? Is it on Sky too?
