Hello folks

Our Finale thread is getting close to full and the discussion is still going strong, so here's a shiny new space to continue with our theories and comments.

In our version of the GoT universe, where has Drogon taken Dany?

It was on Now TV from the Sky channel (don’t know if Sky keeps things afterwards?)

AuntieMarys · 28/05/2019 08:21

The documentary was great. We have just been to Belfast to the exhibition.

GenderApostate19 · 28/05/2019 08:22

The Game of Thrones touring exhibition is coming to Belfast in September, it’s already been in Paris and Barcelona. Belfast is well worth a visit and the Titanic museum is incredible.

Hopefully there will be some exclusive props/costumes on display as well as whole sets.
I want to go to the quarry they used - the ice lake and Castle Black are still there. I follow someone on twitter who goes to every location they’ve ever used.

SweetSummerchild · 28/05/2019 08:58

I really enjoyed that documentary. The part where Vladimir was in Spain was hilarious.

I thought so too. I was worried for him for a moment, I thought when he went over to the crowd and asked if they knew who he was there would be an cringey awkward silence 😂.

AuntieMarys · 28/05/2019 10:26

gender the touring exhibition has been there since April..finishes in September

maxiflump1 · 28/05/2019 13:00

The behind the scenes documentary is incredible. The sheer amount of work and logistics that go into the production is amazing! Makes you understand why it took so long to make 6 episodes.

SweetSummerchild · 28/05/2019 18:28

Sadly, this season has left a bit of a nasty taste with me (well, more than a bit). Whilst I appreciate the cinematography, the acting, the music score, the prosthetics and the costumes, it’s all like a beautiful house built with no foundations - destined to collapse.

I’ve thought about so many of the fundamental errors of the season, and many of them could have been solved so easily. Arya deus ex machina-ing the night king could have been ok if it had bene set up a bit by Bran. Dany going ‘mad queen’ would have been ok if it hadn’t been totally forced by other characters around her almost conspiring to make her campaign against Cersei fail. Sansa could only achieve her position as Queen of an independent north by breaking a sacred vow to her brother. How is that supposed to show character development. Don’t even get me started on Jaime or Jon.

It was not about the season being rushed or only six episodes. It was just down to crap writing. Many of these issues could have been solved with one or two minutes of dialogue - it would have just taken one fewer cock joke or two minutes less of watching Tyrion walk through a burned city.

Ordering a large McDonald’s meal instead of a medium does not suddenly turn it into a five guys meal. It’s still just McDonad’s - just more expensive and fattening. D&D ruined the season because they couldn’t write decent characters, plot or dialogue to support the end-point they were trying to reach.

It’s a shame. Episode 2 (written by Brian Cogman and not D&D) was great. There was some great dialogue and character development. It just all went to shit the moment that Arya flew through the air at the end of episode 3.

Anyway, Good Omens in starting in a few days. I can’t wait!

Honeyroar · 28/05/2019 19:36

Oh no, I didn't realise that the touring exhibition in Belfast was only temporary- I thought that they were having a permanent studio tour there.

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 28/05/2019 19:44

I'm going to the exhibition later this week and can't wait! Will report back Grin

Honeyroar · 28/05/2019 19:52

For those of you going to/having visited the exhibition have you combined it with travel/hotels? I'd love to do it.

AuntieMarys · 28/05/2019 19:54

We stayed in the Titanic hotel which is fab

Tfoot75 · 28/05/2019 19:56

I think a permanent studio tour is opening in Belfast next year? At least Google says there is!

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 28/05/2019 19:59

We're on holiday @Honeyroar but I'm from Belfast so do come back to visit often.

Honeyroar · 28/05/2019 20:31

Thanks. I need to have a Google. Ironically I have a free flight to use up, but my OH has a dvt so can't fly for the next few months!

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 28/05/2019 20:40

@Honeyroar you could always get the boat across - the overnight sailing from Liverpool is very comfortable if you have a cabin and the sailing from Cairnryan is much shorter and very easy (just can be a trek to get there depending on where you live).

Alternatively leave him at home as the flights are generally quite cheap Grin

Honeyroar · 28/05/2019 21:59

Lol, yes that's a good plan!👏
Hmmm, really got me thinking now! Liverpool isn't far away..

itscallednickingbentcoppers · 29/05/2019 06:58

Oh sad news about Kit Harrington checking into the wellness facility. He did look to be struggling a bit with the ending of GoT on The Last Watch.

MsMarvellous · 29/05/2019 18:06

I've just finished my binge watch up to the end of season 7 and will start rewatching 8 tonight

It strikes me that it was blatantly obvious throughout that Dany would happily raze everything to the ground and the only thing stopping her was Tyrion.

So other than wanting more fulfilling dialogue from season 6 onwards I can't say that the ending should have been surprised. She was all for taking three dragons and fucking over kings landing as soon as she hit Dragonstone. It was Tyrion who persuaded her to take a better path.

None of it was ever her. It was Tyrion. Jorah. Varys. Missandei. Grey Worm. They were all that was stopping her.

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 29/05/2019 23:09

Just watched The Last Watch - fantastic programme! Loved it. Can't wait to see the exhibition!

StarStruckStarGazer · 30/05/2019 06:50

The ending was OK, I'm one of those who has read the books, so wondering desperately if we'll ever see another book, what on earth will happen to the characters not used in the series.

Tyrion's speech on Bran the Broken has me in tears. I feel like either binge watching again and taking notes, as stuff is explained in other episodes.

Daenarys really went for it didn't she in the second the last episode. I think even though what Jon did was allegedly not what his adopted Dad would have done, I think in a way, Jon could see that she was going mad, he had to put an end to all the fighting.

My biggest loss is Davos as he's so yummy. Will definitely look out for his character in other shows, also Arya (Maisie) too.

I'm excited for the back story episode / series.

Also does anyone think they could carry on if they wanted too. So we can see the rebuilding of the empire.

fussychica · 30/05/2019 16:47

Was a bit disappointed in some of the final series, inevitable it didn't and perhaps could never have lived up to the hype.
I thought the documentary was great. I know I am going to miss it all.

TurquoiseTurtles · 30/05/2019 17:02

I didn't watch earlier episodes, as my thoughts were how does that work, what was the point of that.

Brienne loved Jaime, even from the books I was championing a happily ever after plot. Not born with your sister, die with her.

Lots have questioned what was the point of the faceless people, seeing it didn't add anything to, well, anything.

I don't get why Sansa suddenly decided, my brother is King, I too will be queen.

I get symbolism of Jon walking beyond the wall, stop as it started.

The more I think about it, the more questions I have.

Dany turning into Little Miss Pyromaniac of the history of Westeros, destroying everything her ancestor built, was weird. Then deciding ah let's set fire to everywhere, come on my magically multiplying army. Hmm
