It's here.

Eight seasons of love, hate, family, battles, history, mystery, myth and legend.

After laying waste to Kings' Landing, what next for Daenerys? Does destiny feel good when you kill thousands of innocents to reach it?

I will really miss these characters and their stories. Epic, must-watch television is rare. Will we ever see its like again?

And now our watch is ended.

agirlhasnonameX good point about Ice. I suppose Oathkeeper will be used to ‘ptotect’ Bran.

I suppose Sansa can have a new ‘Ice’ forged, even though it won’t be Valyrian steel.

Maybe Arya Farman will find Brgitroar on her voyage round the world.

Sierra259 · 21/05/2019 18:18

I was generally happy with the endings overall. Tyrion, Sansa, Arya and Jon all ended up with the things they wanted most right from the start (to be respected for his intellect, to be a queen, adventure, a life to do with as he wished with people who don't give a shit about his parentage). I did feel sorry for Jon, given everything he's done but I think life beyond the wall will suit him in the end. I was Hmm about Bran being made king as his character and motivations as the 3ER have been woefully underdeveloped. I was pleased for Brienne, Sam and Davos in their new roles too and Theon had the most rounded and believable arc I felt (maybe also the Hound).

Jaime, Cersei and Dany suffered most with their characters IMHO. Cersei went from badass villain to lame duck in the last 2 seasons. Dany's transition to Mad Queen was the right call but with a bit more planning could have been much more believable and emotional. Jaime's arc is the one that was utterly nonsensical to me. It started brilliantly with his road to redemption from complete arse but then he just kept flip-flopping all over the place and didn't actually move forwards as a character at all.

I do think the last 2 seasons were a bit too rushed and sloppily plotted in some areas - a lot of plot threads were just completely abandoned/ignored. However the battles were phenomenal and there were some lovely character moments (the episode before the Battle of Winterfell particularly). It just felt like the stakes were never as high after that battle and although I didn't hate it, my overall feeling on the ending was "meh". Such a shame given how awesome earlier seasons were.

The best thing to come out this series for me, is remembering how nice it is to watch something on a weekly basis with DH. We've gotten into the habit of only watching box sets for the last few years and binge watching. It's been really nice to take a bit of time and discuss each episode and speculate about the next. We often don't do that when we binge as we race through a series so quickly.

Although it does mean if you get a dud episode you feel more hard to (looking at you, episode 2).

Devilinatwinset · 21/05/2019 19:00

Yeah, last night 😕
I don't know what to think. In a way it was kind of fitting that Jon's arc came full circle. BUT he was the true heir to the throne. Bran was the obvious choice though. It was all wrapped up a bit too nicely. Like it ran out of steam. It was underwhelming. Especially since it had some truly incredible moments. I was thinking earlier about some of my favourite scenes. Little finger's execution was spectacular. And Hodor's death had me bawling my eyes out. On one hand it was annoying the way they were culling loads of people at the end but on another it made sense how things ended up. It did have some seriously naff moments as well. & Arya's final farewell was a total cop out 😒

Anyone else think that the endings for Jon, Sansa & Arya has left them ripe for future spin offs?

I know Kit Harrington is adamant he will never play Jon Snow again, but I think a spin off series would be wildly popular.

I think any spin off would be soooo cheesy and cheapen everything.

Maisie Williams apparently doesn't want to be in TV anymore, so don't think she will want to do an Arya spin off either.

I think prequels and sequels could work if they're done well, but they'll never be GoT. Obviously.

CauliflowerBalti · 21/05/2019 19:27

Kit Harrington can’t act his way out of a paper bag. He needs a GoT spinoff...

Loved this!

Robin2323 · 21/05/2019 21:23

Just rewatched
Thought it was perfect.
Best moments:
The bit at the end with the council - funny
The cuddle with Ghost
The bit where they voted Bran king
And then Bran made Tyrion the hand lol

Robin2323 · 21/05/2019 21:35

Plus:
When the man that didn’t learn to read till a season or so ago , corrects someone’s grammar.

Outofinspiration · 21/05/2019 21:44

Don’t get me started on the Iron Islands.

Actually I think it was the Iron Islands which made me put down the books and say 'no more' tbh. I just couldn't take another page of reading about so and so's 'nuncle' Grin

CarolDanvers · 21/05/2019 21:46

Did Drogon know it needed to be done or did he just not kill Jon because he's a Targaryen? Dragons are very intelligent aren't they?

millythepink · 21/05/2019 21:54

I have read the books several times but not sure I remember reading that dragons are very intelligent? Was it more of a show thing?

Giggorata · 21/05/2019 21:54

Love the Brienne meme! I think she showed great restraint not to write that he had a tiny penis..

Outofinspiration · 21/05/2019 21:54

I do wish they had another episode so that we could have seen a bit more of 'Nuremberg Rally Dany'. I thought that scene was really powerful and I would have loved to have seen Dany post losing it for just a bit longer.

CarolDanvers · 21/05/2019 21:57

"Dragons are intelligent, more intelligent than men according to some Maesters. They have affection for their friends and fury for their enemies." ―Tyrion Lannister"

Found this on wiki and I think I remember it being said in the show.

Devilinatwinset · 21/05/2019 22:02

I wish Brienne & Tormund had got it on & made massive babies

fancynancyclancy · 21/05/2019 22:05

I wonder if they will do a reunion episode in 10/20 yrs time?

Devilinatwinset · 21/05/2019 22:07

😍

Dickorydockwhatthe · 21/05/2019 23:08

What a pile of shit that was!!! The writing was diabolical I’ve loved every series up until now. Absolutely rubbish ending and series, I had planned to rewatch the entire series but not after watching that episode.

2pointfourmonkeys · 21/05/2019 23:15

I've finally found time to watch it! I'm sorry, i haven't read the full thread so I'm sorry if this has already been asked.
I liked the beginning and the end of the episode, the council getting back to squabbling over their own priorities, Arya setting out; fully grown into herself.
My main confusion is that if Bran made the north independent, doesn't that mean House Stark is no longer part of the 6/7 kingdoms so actually makes him ineligible for the throne as a foreigner? How can he be king whilst his house isn't part of the kingdom? Or is the point that now they have to chose a king, anyone can be king? Urrggh 🤯

JasperRising · 22/05/2019 00:27

2pointfourmonkeys good point. I guess they had basically all agreed he would be king when he made the north free so then they were stuck with him? Or they couldn't face the squabbling if they didn't agree to be him being king and decided to overlook it...

itswinetime · 22/05/2019 01:01

I'm not sure but brienne has a raven on her chest plate once she was the head of the kings guard so I'm not sure if he was ruling as Brandon stark or The 3 eyed raven not sure what difference that makes to his citizenship though Wink

Or maybe brienne just likes birds and there is no answer there 🤷🏻‍♀️
