It's here.

Eight seasons of love, hate, family, battles, history, mystery, myth and legend.

After laying waste to Kings' Landing, what next for Daenerys? Does destiny feel good when you kill thousands of innocents to reach it?

I will really miss these characters and their stories. Epic, must-watch television is rare. Will we ever see its like again?

And now our watch is ended.

The first scene with Tyrion takes us to Hiroshima and those photos of Vietnamese people after napalm attacks..

I thought of both those things too.

I’m pretty happy with the ending - I thought it might be a crushing disappointment.

Strokethefurrywall · 20/05/2019 22:52

VampireSlayer19 That is the most amazing thing I've read 🤣🤣🤣😁

itswinetime · 20/05/2019 22:54

@8dayweek.

If she doesn't I think Al Murray might!!

RightOnTheEdge · 20/05/2019 22:56

I'm watching Thronecast itswinetime
I don't know who that man is but it's painful to watch. I'm not a massive lover of Jimmy Carr but who thought that was a good swap? Hmm
Even when he starts talking he's all erm, like, erm, like Angry
They have had some terrible guests this series.

Outofinspiration · 20/05/2019 22:56

Well.... Just finished! I thought it was great. Was expecting a big old anti climax, but actually it would be so difficult to end a show of this proportion anyway, I think they did a good job.

Loved the dragon wings as Dany approaches. The nazi-esque imagery was very powerful.

Yes, I thought exactly that. With the flags hung up like that and what she was wearing and everything.

Whatever happened to Meera?

Cant believe its ended, I shed a tear in the opening credits Sad

littlebillie · 20/05/2019 22:57

That was a poor ending lame for my liking, they let themselves down,

itswinetime · 20/05/2019 22:58

@RightOnTheEdge. I know I can't stand Jimmy Carr but swap back please! I'm wondering if he will be gone once we are back from the ads!

legolimb · 20/05/2019 22:59

Good episode.

I had no idea that any of those things would happen.

It's nice though that it was as happy an ending as was ever possible.

noodlenosefraggle · 20/05/2019 23:04

I really enjoyed that episode in a satisfying rather than thrilling way. I said to DH it was as if they were shoehorning a load of political history into one episode, so I suppose yes, the ash was like Vietnam or even the Hiroshima bomb pictures, Dany's 'liberation' was a lot like Stalinism or Maoism, where the deaths of millions serves a higher purpose, to start society again in a 'fairer' way, then the birth of democracy where a ruler is chosen not born. I think everyone but the Dothraki knew that the free folk would take Jon off rather than him serving his life sentence. They are off living it up in Naarth so they would have forgotten about Jon and justice, and Bran and the rest are hardly going to bother looking for him. It was a way of avoiding war.

littlebillie · 20/05/2019 23:04

Bran knew he was going to be king and he said he knew. He let Dany have her madness and let thousands die - not a great king. Too many holes and not enough substance

Honeyroar · 20/05/2019 23:05

We are watching Thronecast too. Thank goodness they ditched the rapper!

itswinetime · 20/05/2019 23:06

I actually cheered! What a random booking!

Honeyroar · 20/05/2019 23:10

What do you think they said to him? "We'll let you do a rap at the end. Go and set up.. Oh sorry, ran out of time!"

Notrusthere · 20/05/2019 23:13

Just watched it and these are my thoughts. Then I'll go back and read the thread...

Cried when Drogon was nudging Dani trying to wake her up 😢 gave my dog a cuddle

Glad Sansa is queen in the North

Fitting end for Arya if slightly antinclimaxy (I.e. she didn't kill anyome)

Bran on the throne. BRAN ON THE THRONE are you fucking kidding me?! The least interesting person in the whole thing?!

Ghost came back...Yay!

Jon has gone to be king beyond the wall right? Or just run off to the north but he wasn't staying with the knights watch.
Or was that done on purpose? Did Sansa know there was no more knights watch and send him north knowing he would be free?

hellenbackagen · 20/05/2019 23:13

I was gutted for Jon initially but actually- that is his happy place. He'll find a woman. Whose gonna check?' And he has ghost ❤️

Drogon ❤️. Hope he is just left alone

That end table - just right . Full of the right people.

I liked the end .

itswinetime · 20/05/2019 23:14

Probably haven't told him they are back from the break Grin

Honeyroar · 20/05/2019 23:14

I've watched it again. There's no way the other Lords and Ladies would've let Sansa opt the north out of the seven kingdoms and not argued to opt out themselves. Sansa's arguement was rubbish anyway. Everyone has lost loads of men. Plus it was a Stark they were crowning anyway. Little madam just wanted her crown, like Dany's brother did at the start!

hellenbackagen · 20/05/2019 23:17

I don't agree honey

The north had independence before.

AspiringTeacher · 20/05/2019 23:17

Underwhelmed and disappointed Sad

Doobigetta · 20/05/2019 23:37

I felt underwhelmed at first, but the end was always going to feel like that.

Peter Dinklage was fantastic throughout and I love that Tyrion will basically be running the Six Kingdoms.
I even like Bronn as the new Littlefinger.
I was annoyed that Greyworm didn’t get put in his place, but actually it’s realistic. There’s always one who doesn’t deserve appeasement but who gets it.
I loved Sansa telling Edmure to shut up and then effectively saying to Bran “you can be other people’s king, but you’ll always be my little brother so I’m out”.
Drogon’s ending was heartbreaking.
I was furious for Jon at first, but actually that he has a chance to be happy now. With Ghost.

BecksDriver · 20/05/2019 23:37

I wasn't happy at first bran was king of thrones but then when he made Tyrion hand the tears started.
When Daenerys and Jon hugged I knew one of them would kill each other. Was glad it was her, it was the only thing that could have happened after last weeks episode.
Drogon burning the throne was immense.
Jon signed up to night watch in the first ever few episodes so the fact he ended up there also made me cry.....and meeting up with Ghost again. I think he knew he would see him again that's why he never said bye properly to him in the episode before.

Bronn been there and whatever his role was gonna be I'm also so happy about....my favourite GoT character ever!
Sansa deserves her ending. Arya's ending is ripe for a spin off.

JasperRising · 20/05/2019 23:39

Technically all the kingdoms had independence before not just the north
But I don't think other areas have lost as many men as the north. Yes, they lost men in the war of the five kings and subsequent battle but so did the north. Only the north and the Knights of the Vale fought the knight king at great cost. Not to mention the areas overrun by the night king who didn't make it to Winterfell. They have had whole noble houses, families and villages wiped out fighting an enemy that I would suspect the average Dornishman still doesn't really believe in.

And they have remained slightly apart with their old gods etc so it does make more sense that they be independent than some of the other Kingdoms.

BecksDriver · 20/05/2019 23:51

Daenerys couldn't have burnt Jon snow......he was a targaereon!

OneInAMillionYou · 20/05/2019 23:56

Watched it three times now. I'm broadly satisfied. GRRM created this world and the ending is as per his notes to D&D so I accept it.
Wouldn't dream of telling Tolkien (RIP) to change the ending of LOTR so I'm at peace that this is where the story ends.

"Everything brought you to where you are now. Where you are meant to be".

Personally, I wish Arya had gone North with Jon. She was so lonely without her family and I wish she hadn't chosen to be apart from them again. Sobbed buckets at that scene on the quayside.
I know it makes no sense for the story but that is just me missing my big brother! 🙄😂

Sansa being crowned got me as well, and the cries of Queen in the North. Ned and Catelyn could be very proud of their children. Sob.

I'm a wreck now, must go and watch Thronecast and get cross at this rapper you all are talking about!
