It's here.

Eight seasons of love, hate, family, battles, history, mystery, myth and legend.

After laying waste to Kings' Landing, what next for Daenerys? Does destiny feel good when you kill thousands of innocents to reach it?

I will really miss these characters and their stories. Epic, must-watch television is rare. Will we ever see its like again?

And now our watch is ended.

It went the way of Lost and Dexter. Fell at the final hurdle. What a bag of shite!

NunoGoncalves · 20/05/2019 03:37

I find most last episodes are

I know they're rarely if ever exciting (how can they be really?) but all my favourite shows have at least had finales that are enjoyable and make me feel sad that the show is over. This just made me feel underwhelmed and sad that the show went so downhill recently.

burblish · 20/05/2019 03:37

@Lweji @TakenforSlanted - I agree, it’s meant to be unsatisfactory and an unhappy compromise all round. I thought the Kingsmoot scene was absolutely fucking ridiculous, but the overall outcome for the main players couldn’t really have been any other way. If anything, they all got what they wanted, albeit in a bittersweet, imperfect way. Arya got her freedom; Sansa became Queen of the independent North; Jon got to be free with the wildlings like when he was with Ygritte; Grey Worm left for Naath; Brienne became Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch etc.

fancynancyclancy · 20/05/2019 03:37

I'm just surprised Jon wasn't killed on the spot by the Unsullied

Yeah, surely GE would have had his head asap.

Bran, that was unexpected for me!

Poor Jon, he saved the world & is a heir & gets no land, wife or kids. :(

BeyondOverTheMoon · 20/05/2019 03:37

Bran wangling himself as king fits well with the “bran is evil” theories mind... Grin

TakenForSlanted · 20/05/2019 03:38

So the whole Dany thing was resolved really early in the episode, I thought okay, there must be lots to tie up here

Agreed. Personally, I would have been okay with the ending being unresolved and the whole thing ending with him offing her.

The internet would have gone batshit, though.

Then again, the internet is going batshit about this one, too. The Dany Party is up in arms.

Granted, the plot twist was rushed this season and hence poorly executed, but come on, fanbois! The woman's gone full genocidal, deluded maniac and you still somehow get mad she didn't get to be queen because she's fuckable??? Confused

drinkswineoutofamug · 20/05/2019 03:38

It's exploded on twitter.

Carimella · 20/05/2019 03:38

I'm amazed at Tyrion's ability to stay alive quite honestly! 😅

nocoolnamesleft · 20/05/2019 03:39

To be fair, he's undead, so fighting chance he can't have kids anyway.

NunoGoncalves · 20/05/2019 03:39

Maybe Bran hasn't been weird all these episodes? He's smug..

Yeah it was quite weird. He didn't seem his aloof non-Bran self in this episode. His answer when Tyrion asked if he would accept the crown ("why do you think I came all this way" or something) was just odd. Is he saying the omniscient Three-Eyed Raven came all this way... to be King?

Giggorata · 20/05/2019 03:40

I'm quite happy with that, so glad no bright blue eyes or stray eggs.
Character development is clearly the weakness in the rushed show, but I could discern a glimmer of humour in Bran..
Glad Sam got his Maester qualification, too.

BeyondOverTheMoon · 20/05/2019 03:40

One cliffhanger that irritates me - I wonder if Tyrion got to finish his anecdote?

DangerMouse17 · 20/05/2019 03:40

Yes I'm just upset at Jon. He brought everyone together to fight the dead, killed the woman he loved for the greater good...and that's how they repaid him. Sad

nocoolnamesleft · 20/05/2019 03:40

But isn't the Three Eyed Raven powerless in the south, because there are no godswoods?

BeyondOverTheMoon · 20/05/2019 03:41

Sorry to mention Azor Ahai/tptwp, but didn’t he lose everything after killing Nissa Nissa?

sashh · 20/05/2019 03:41

OK who cried when Drogon was nudging Danny?

BurntSausage · 20/05/2019 03:42

Oh man. Wow. I cried a bit. That was grrrrreeeeeeaaaaaat. I can’t wait to watch it again and see all the things I missed the first time but I’m happy with that on a first viewing 😁

NunoGoncalves · 20/05/2019 03:42

I just can't put my finger on it. The last series finale I watched before this one was The Americans, and I was in tears about how much I was going to miss the characters.

I didn't have anything like that kind of emotion tonight. I'm not even angry or annoyed. Just... meh!

DeadWife · 20/05/2019 03:43

If the build up was like Christmas Eve then post-viewing is like early evening on Boxing Day Grin.

SpeckofStardust · 20/05/2019 03:44

The Queen in the North!!

Made it all worthwhile. Plus Bronn got his castle so there’s that. Wasn’t quite how I would have ended it but all in all I’m fairly content and now, on to His Dark Materials, I can live with that, been hoping to see a good book to screen representation of that.

burblish · 20/05/2019 03:47

The more I think about it, the more I feel the ending was as right as it was going to get. Yeah...I’m satisfied, I think. The last season or two have felt very rushed and some of the writing has been awful, but the overall plot arcs have ended in a way that makes sense to me.

Myusernameismud · 20/05/2019 03:47

I can cope with that ending. DH is livid Grin

Happy for Sansa, she will be great. I cried like a baby when Jon stroked ghost, but I knew it wouldn't be the end for those 2 because of what he said to Tormund before he left for KL.

I just went to find the spoilers now I've seen it, and apart from one or 2 really minor details, they were all accurate. I had read that betting was suspended after a flurry of bets on Bran, but had it in my head it was a ploy by HBO Blush.

Not the worst ending I could have imagined, and I think we all knew bran would have a big part to play, didn't we? I guess we just never realised it was that big!

fancynancyclancy · 20/05/2019 03:47

I enjoyed Sam inventing democracy and they all found it hilarious

Yes, what a notion!

BurntSausage · 20/05/2019 03:47

My initial hmmm moment is why was it okay for Sansa to declare the north independent, but none of the others, e.g. Yara for the Iron Islands did the same? Or did I miss something?

DragonglassHeart · 20/05/2019 03:48

I'm happy enough with that. Sobbed like a baby for the last 20 minutes even though my logical brain was saying things should have been different.

Really lost it at Brienne doing Jaime's book entry.

Bittersweet indeed.
