It's here.

Eight seasons of love, hate, family, battles, history, mystery, myth and legend.

After laying waste to Kings' Landing, what next for Daenerys? Does destiny feel good when you kill thousands of innocents to reach it?

I will really miss these characters and their stories. Epic, must-watch television is rare. Will we ever see its like again?

And now our watch is ended.

Gah, I’ve just noticed my typo up there re Brienne - I meant Kingsguard, not Night’s Watch! Blush [facepalm]

OkPedro · 20/05/2019 03:51

I’ll be rewatching at 9pm! I loved this ep up until they skipped ahead after Jon killed Dany. Why didn’t they show the aftermath of that? I don’t believe Jon wouldn’t have been killed instantly. Why did he have to go to the wall. Why did Sansa and Arya not care. SO MANY QUESTIONS

OneInAMillionYou · 20/05/2019 03:51

Will have to reflect....

First thoughts though, the first half was fucking magnificent, so intense. The imagery, the music, the fear that someone would be listening to the conversation between Jon and Tyrion.
Also, did Dany nip back to Dragonstone for a quick costume change. That was a serious Queen outfit!

I found the scenes with Drogon strangely moving, the gentle nudging of her body and the grief of burning the throne. Full of symbolism of course.

The meeting at the Dragon Pit, hmm. Didn't need those unknown so called lords. That was annoying. Who made Grey Worm King of the World, cheeky Unsullied !

Tyrion was really going for the Emmy in those speeches!

LOVED that moment where Arya bit back at Yara. Actually whooped out loud. (Sorry again, DP and DDog but you shouldn't be asleep)

I think they should have pressed harder for Jon. Tyrion bloody egged him on to kill her after all. He knew which buttons to press.

The scene with the Starks at the dock had me sobbing. Arya and Jon's relationship is my weak point. Better get some therapy for that.

Not sure how I feel about the comedy moments at the Small Council meeting, Bronn and his brothel talk, yuck. Didn't seem in keeping.

Brienne completing Jaime's entry in the Book of Knights was beautiful.

So strange, some really lovely moments and some clunky dead ends.

Sansa made a great Queen. That was some gown.

Bran the Broken. Must be OK with GRRM. Surely he wouldn't have permitted an ending so far from his vision?

Yes we got our hug with Ghost. The producers must have been laughing their socks off at us for the last few weeks of uproar about Jon neglecting him.

Brienne should have written an entry for herself!

BurntSausage · 20/05/2019 03:55

@Oneinamillionyou that sums up my thoughts perfectly. Thanks for saving me the trouble of typing it all out 😁 yeah the gathering scene was my least favourite. Although I liked Robin’s glowup! That was unexpected. And nice to see Edmure and watch him get put in his place.

sam221 · 20/05/2019 03:55

I did not like that ending at all!!! Jon really was left out to dry by all the other characters, when he flipping saved them all!!! He deserved a far better ending or they should have killed him off.

TheInvestigator · 20/05/2019 03:57

My problem is that it feels too rushed. Too many seasons of Dany killing the evil and saving the innocent... then just a couple episodes of her being bad and then being billed. Of course she always had that evil side, but she kept it under control.and only ever took it out on those who directly opposed or hurt her when she was in the middle of doing the right thing, so she wasn't bad. Then we're meant to just accept that she's gone completely off the rails and now she's dead and that's that. It's too rushed.
It had to happen; it's the way I wanted it to happen but the writing ruined it.

sashh · 20/05/2019 03:57

I think her clothes have followed her journey, staring in pastel shades and then through blue and grey to black.

A bit like Sansa's hair reflecting her alliances.

cerseiswinegoblet · 20/05/2019 03:57

Some gaping plot holes and some clunky bits, but on the whole I enjoyed it. Would have loved a twist at the very end.

TakenForSlanted · 20/05/2019 03:58

Yes! Also, FWIW, cinematically. Beautifully shot and very well captures. I felt intensely uncomfortable and a tad scared at Nazi-Dany.

Hence why I would have been okay with the whole thing ending after Jon kills her.

fancynancyclancy · 20/05/2019 03:58

What is Aya looking for?

Was Jon going for a walk or joining the wildings?

Finally ghost got a hug.

DangerMouse17 · 20/05/2019 03:59

I'm feeling slightly better about Jon as someone on Reddit suggested he has actually left the wall behind him....he's gone with the wildlings to be "king beyond the wall". That feels a bit nicer, so I will force myself to think that could be true!

TheInvestigator · 20/05/2019 03:59

I think job will be happy in the North. And he might even fall in love again and have a family. He isn't going to live by the night a watch vows; he's left it all behind and gone into the North to be free. It's what I wanted for him but not the way they did it... not as a banishment which left him no other choice. I wanted him to choose it. (Ok, he sort of chose it but his options were night a watch or north of the wall... I wanted his choice to be winterfell/kings landing or north of the wall).

We didn't even get to see him say goodbye to Sam. No closure there and that was his main relationship.

FoldyRoll · 20/05/2019 04:02

Well that was Scooby Doo ending. Meh. I much prefer my predicted endings from S6; the ascent of the women with Sansa, Arya, Yara, Brienne, Danerys, Queen of Thorns and Ellaria being in charge of everything, and also my prediction before this series started that the Night King would win and wipe out the living because they'd all been squabbling amongst themselves instead of fighting the real problem, as an allegory for climate change.
Both totally wrong of course, but far less meh.

fancynancyclancy · 20/05/2019 04:02

To be fair, he's undead, so fighting chance he can't have kids anyway.

I always forget he died.

TakenForSlanted · 20/05/2019 04:04

I always forget he died

We all do. Which is kind of a problem in that it means that, in the show at least, him dying is ridiculously inconsequential.

OkPedro · 20/05/2019 04:04

Strangely I’m now feeling upset that Dany died.. it was beautifully done and it had to be done but.. Drogon nudging her body.. all that she had been through.. she started off as a young abused girl.. wahhh I’m sad it’s over

MoominMantra · 20/05/2019 04:05

I really enjoyed the finale. My favourites, Arya and Tyrion survived until the end. To stop the kind of madness Dany displayed, there had to be an agreement to democracy of some sort I think. She needed to be taken out.

I’m annoyed to hear some people (not here) trying to defend Cersei and say her actions were only because she thought she was right. The woman had no goodness in her at all. Even after she was broken by those religious fanatics there were no redeeming features there at all. And it was somehow fitting for me that she died an unceremonious death.

OkPedro · 20/05/2019 04:06

It’s too much to take in..I’ll be watching it for weeks 😂
I now have to try to sleep and take my kids to school in 4 hours 😭

birdandroses · 20/05/2019 04:06

My first thinking tonight, need to sleep, is I didn’t mind the ending. Greyworm and his Unsullied army would not have sailed off to the Isle of Naath (alas no Missendai by his side) if they didn’t feel there was justice for Dany. To reach peace and end the slaughter compromise is needed, and sadly Jon paid the biggest price. However, I am hoping that perhaps the rules of not being able to marry and have children may not apply North of the damaged wall and he might find some happiness in the far North (or proper North as Tormund would say) living with the wildings.

All suffered - except Bronn! As Tyrion said only time will tell whether the choices they made were the correct ones and replacing hereditary monarchy will work.

MoominMantra · 20/05/2019 04:07

I think Dany started off with good intentions but the sheer amount of power she had went to her head and she started ignoring her advisers.

birdandroses · 20/05/2019 04:08

To be fair, he's undead, so fighting chance he can't have kids anyway.

I always forget he died.

Bah, I forget this too!

fancynancyclancy · 20/05/2019 04:08

I did cry particularly at the docks scene & Brienne’s book writing. Also found it moving when Drogon was nudging Dany.

I just want all the Starks to be together in Winterfell but that’s obviously too happy an ending. I’m ok with Bran ruling, who else could do the job?

agirlhasnonameX · 20/05/2019 04:12

Did Drogon think the Throne had killed Danni?

Did Bran suddenly change his mind about him not being Bran and unable to be a Lord because he's the 3eyed raven?

Did Jon really have to go North considering the unsullied all left and only Yara had a problem with him?

Why is Bronn on the small council and how did Sam become arch Maester so quickly when it takes years and years to earn your chains?

Questions I guess will never be answered.....

itswinetime · 20/05/2019 04:14

Well......ummm..... I don't know what I think!

I like how they handled Danny that was some strong imagery and having her act as normal after what she had done showed this wasn't just some weird grief rage moment of madness it was her. I'm glad they went that way instead of making her some raving mad women.

The scenes with Drogon 😢. I'm surprised he was left alive though also not sure why he didn't take Jon out with the throne.

I agree it makes no sense that the unsullied wouldn't kill Jon on the spot same for Tyrion. And why hang around only to leave? The slaughtered soldiers in the street because they were on the opposite side but wait for a random council who mean both to them assemble before going to naarth (which was predictable). It didn't really flow or make sense.

Bran as king if you'd told be before I would have said I'd hate it but and I kind of do but then I was never that devoted to who ends up on the throne and he did seem better more human almost by the end. But it's not a satisfying end to his arch either.

Tyrion some great moments but I don't know I wanted something more from him because Tyrion talks his way out of trouble is a bit old know.

Edmure finally reappeared! Along with some other random lords we haven't seen in 10yrs! Sweet Robin shows up again to.

The council meeting was funny if a little odd. Seems that was the point of Bronn's story.

Arya becoming an explorer? That seemed out of left field I wonder if Arya the explorer is one of the spin off because it seems like that was a set up to me.

Sansa queen of the north that's pretty unsurprisingly

Jon where do you start with him? The most important thing he finally acknowledged ghost thank the lord!! I have waited an long time for that! But his whole story arch is a bit odd for me what was the point in him being Targaryen? Anyone else could have had a claim to the throne (there is already another Targaryen claim in the books) and set Danny off it felt like a big reveal for a load of nothing! Why did he have to go to the wall once the unsullied left? Is he even at the wall or has he gone north with the free folk? Why is there even a nights watch anymore? Just very in satisfying! I think I would have rather he killed danny and then Drogon took him out even though that would have meant no ghost

What was the last WTF moment then? The burning of kings landing?

It wasn't the worst ending I don't think but I probably need some time to digest.
