Starts tonight 9pm
Family drama that flashes forward into the future.

OP posts:

So brilliantly provocative how RTD has turned the tide (no pun intended) there. It shoves the issue right back in our faces.

TheZeppo · 04/06/2019 22:12

Wow. So, so well done.

And to think when I saw the initial trailer I thought it was a fluffy comedy 😳

SapphireBattersea · 04/06/2019 22:14

@Nonnymum yes 😰

God tonight's episode 😓

WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo · 04/06/2019 22:20

I thought it was going to be Stephen, after the drugs trial.

Then BAM.

Andonandonan · 04/06/2019 22:22

I’m still speechless.

Amazingly done but oh so horrifying.

beansonbread · 04/06/2019 22:24

Well that was one of the most traumatic episodes of any show I've ever watched. I couldn't stop crying as the Daniel story unfolded and feel so broken right now - the tears are still rolling. Doesn't help that I watched episode 4 of Chernobyl just before Years and Years. Two hours of emotional trauma.

HeavenlyEyes · 04/06/2019 22:30

Amazing episode. Utterly heartbreaking.

After each one I have a mini existential crisis. It is all so real.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 04/06/2019 22:31

That was so shocking. The image of the beach...Sad

MinesaPinot · 04/06/2019 22:41

OMG I just don't know what to say after that episode. It was stunningly well acted but unbelievably traumatic. That image of Camber Sands will haunt me for a long time Sad

LindsayDentonsCat · 04/06/2019 22:50

Well played Russell T Davies, a very powerful piece of television.

SushiGo · 04/06/2019 22:51

Cried a bit too here. So well done.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 04/06/2019 22:52

Me too blackbird
Haven't forgotten the 2006 cock-up
www.bbc.com/news/magazine-35766627
But I had either the Gran or the Activist rather than nc dad in the coffin last week, so what do I know?
Russell Tovey passing was classic bait-and-switch: I knew something bad was going to happen but thought Viktor would suffocate in the suitcase compartment or have a botched breath test cap or be detained at the last minute. The beach scene was Russell T Davies at his best. If the family go to Rye to identify the body so he can have a proper burial then they expose Viktor which Daniel would never have wanted to happen. Right-wing Viv Rook's not going to be an ally, is she?

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/06/2019 23:05

What was Victor saying in response to the officer questioning him on the beach? I didn't quite catch it. Was he speaking Ukrainian?

BIWI · 04/06/2019 23:11

Continues to be brilliant and haunting TV.

But - but - but ...

How did Viktor manage to get away after being rescued? Surely he wouldn't have just been allowed to walk away/get on a bus!

TheFirstOHN · 04/06/2019 23:12

I don't speak Ukrainian but from the context I guessed that he was saying "I don't know" or similar.

SushiGo · 04/06/2019 23:15

I wondered if he had lied and said he was Daniel?
Or if he just slipped away in the chaos of waiting to be seen at A&E?

SavageBeauty73 · 04/06/2019 23:16

Oh my god. I cried. I expected the unfaithful one to die.

Fluffa · 04/06/2019 23:18

Why was the black woman (was her name Emily?) on the same boat as them? I thought she was working out there and safe?

TheFirstOHN · 04/06/2019 23:19

Fluffa the woman on the boat was a completely different person to the woman who is Daniel's neighbour and a coach tour guide.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/06/2019 23:21

That's what I wondered too @SushiGo but I don't know how he could sustain a lie like that, even if the Lyons family agreed to go along with it.

Fluffa · 04/06/2019 23:28

oops sorry she looked very similar. I just hope Viktor is the real deal. He seems lovely but him being with Daniel could have helped his housing case originally

TheFirstOHN · 05/06/2019 00:06

On a much lighter note, I loved this line:
"He's the sort of man who's happy when he finds a big crisp."
Smile

Havalina · 05/06/2019 00:13

Does anyone else just adore Russel t Davies?? I love years and years but I rewatched queer as folk the other day and it still stands. Up there in my top 10 telly ever, not to mention Torchwood children off earth, oh to be so talented

Medievalist · 05/06/2019 00:24

. I just hope Viktor is the real deal. He seems lovely but him being with Daniel could have helped his housing case originally

What do you mean?

Defenbaker · 05/06/2019 00:30

So sad. Made worse by knowing that many migrants drown on overcrowded boats every year, in their desperation to reach the UK or other parts of Europe. Those scenes on the beach brought home the horrific reality of the situation more than any news programme could.

Very cleverly written and well acted drama, I feel a BAFTA award (or several) is heading towards the people involved with this series.
