Think I prefer Jaime clean shaven, too.

Oh I love Jaime the way he is now!

Honeyroar · 02/05/2019 21:55

I'd have Jaime any way he came!

AliceRR · 02/05/2019 22:35

Anyone read the books or tempted to after the tv series?

I’m really tempted but think it might be a bit of a commitment!

Fazackerley · 02/05/2019 22:36

I loved the books.

yumyumpoppycat · 02/05/2019 23:11

I watched GoT by a fluke on now tv when the series first started airing, I then got the books and loved them but couldn't manage to keep to my plan and put them aside patiently to prevent spoiling the tv show when it was behind the books. When I had finished them I loaned them to my sister who is a big fan of the tv show, she returned them after maybe two or three years so I thought now might be a good time to reread them. The books were covered in dust in the box the wrong way with yellowed pages Shock and book one was missing - she still hasn't finished reading it! So I guess it could go either way with loving the books.

I read all the books twice as was stuck in hospital for a while. I hadn't watched the telly series till last year. The series has gone well beyond the books, which he never finished.

AliceRR · 02/05/2019 23:19

I’m really tempted to order the books.

The full set of seven (I believe there may be two more books to come) is £29.99 on Amazon but the idea of reading them all is a bit daunting so maybe I’ll just order 1 and see how it goes 🤔

Well I’ll probably finish watching the show first!

SihtricsHorseWitnere · 02/05/2019 23:22

You can go up to book 5 if you're caught up on the series.

SihtricsHorseWitnere · 02/05/2019 23:23

Be warned, the books are extremely violent, even more so than the early series.

yumyumpoppycat · 02/05/2019 23:23

Maybe you could borrow the first one from the library and buy the set if you like it? If you enjoy them you will probably read them quite quickly.

Fazackerley · 02/05/2019 23:32

More violent and rapey

AliceRR · 02/05/2019 23:57

I think they’re quite long books(?) so didnt think I’d get much further than books 1 or two before the series ends in a few weeks

Be warned, the books are extremely violent, even more so than the early series.

Oh.

SihtricsHorseWitnere · 02/05/2019 23:58

Yep. And Danys is 13 when she marries and 14 whilst pregnant. Sansa is a month off 13 when married. Arya is an apprentice assassin at 11 or 12. Missandei is 11 and her brother is Grey Worm and her other brothers are in the Unsullied. Jaime and Cersei are just nasty and Tyrion whores with every woman 'from Dorne to Casterly Rock'.

SihtricsHorseWitnere · 02/05/2019 23:59

There is a lot more rape in the books (patterned after feudal times when indeed, rape was pretty common).

AliceRR · 03/05/2019 00:38

Sold! 😂

OneInAMillionYou · 03/05/2019 00:43

I decided I would only attempt the books once GRRM actually finished them!

Emilia Clarke being interviewed says that Episode 5 is the one to watch out for. So, Ep 4 is post-battle, bit of re-grouping and re-positioning, then Ep 5 will be the battle for the throne?

I am getting more and more worried about Arya. She's had this huge moment killing the Night King. I so hope she survives to the end.

Can hardly believe only three episodes to go. Whatever it may be, I hope we get a 'proper' ending.
I hated the end of The Sopranos. Yes, very clever and all that, but not satisfying for me.

I only actually started watching GOT in the last couple of months and got to the end of season 7 only about a week before series 8 came on so I didn’t have to wait

But if I start reading the books and then have to wait for the ending that would be frustrating!

SpeckofStardust · 03/05/2019 01:02

Anyone waiting for GRRM to finish the books before buying them, don’t hold your breath. I bought books 1-5 in 2011 after the first season of GOT was shown and now here we are in 2019 and I’m still waiting for book 6 to materialize. I’ve more or less accepted that, even should he finish book 6, the chances of ever seeing book 7, the supposed final volume, are slim to none. Hoping the tv series gives at least a semblance of closure to some of the ongoing threads left hanging in the books.

yumyumpoppycat · 03/05/2019 01:04

I have been wondering what next for Arya too. Back to her list or is she now free to choose another path now that she has killed the NK?

AliceRR · 03/05/2019 01:10

I want Arya to get Cersei but seems too obvious - unless she’s wearing one of her many faces

itswinetime · 03/05/2019 01:25

I wanted Arya to be the one to end Cersei and I will still be happy if she does but I think it's unlikely now Arya taking out the big bad twice where is the surprise!

I now think it has to Jamie, he killed the mad king he will be the one to kill Cersei when she goes mad queen. Possibly in some way mirroring brans fall at the beginning of the show. A fight at the top of the red keep or something! I have probably taking it to far there though.

I think Arya's future will be in finding a balance between killer and person I hope anyway because otherwise i think Arya's day are numbered.

EluphNaugeMeop · 03/05/2019 03:48

Pretty sure it will be Danny who despatches Cercei. Probably only moments before being destroyed herself but her character arc requires her to attain the Iron Throne. Possibly only moments before the Iron Throne and the whole of King's Landing is destroyed by wildfire as a PP suggested.

Tyrion and Jaime have gone from plot-point golden hair to almost black hair, completely unremarked upon?

In my family genetics the kids all have blond hair when they are young, which generally darkens when we are older unless we spend plenty of time outdoors in summer, with quite a noticeable sun-bleaching effect. If Lannister hair is similar then moving north now winter is here could have a significant darkening effect - I spent a winter near the Arctic circle once where there was barely an hour a day where the sun cleared the horizon and my hair did go noticeably darker. Not as much as Jamie's has but I don't know the radiative properties of the sun of that world, it might be stronger in the band
of frequencies that trigger sun lightening.

yumyumpoppycat · 03/05/2019 07:19

I did wonder if arya might be involved in cleganebowl but that would be a bit dissatisfying. I think arya might be meeting Jaquan h'gar (sp?) people were speculating he might be involved in this series.

Fazackerley · 03/05/2019 07:30

I love all these theories but I'm convinced it will be a populist ending. Cersei will die and Dany and Jon will marry and live happily ever after. Tyrion and arya will live. Bran will not be mentioned again.

MelanieCheeks · 03/05/2019 07:34

I read Book 1 and absolutely loathed the writing style. Haven't been able to read any more.
