And Sansa should be with her one true love, the hound

Have Sansa and the Hound interacted since they both ended up in Winterfell? That would be a nice reunion, he was always kind to her.

Willyoubuymeahouseofgold · 30/04/2019 18:06

I have another question?.. If Jon Snow is a wight , he's not going to be King is he? Will he die when Bran dies ?

CaptainBrickbeard · 30/04/2019 18:06

Tyrion is far too old for Sansa and so is the Hound! She has been through so much horrific trauma, I’m not really rooting for her to find another husband; more to strengthen her bonds with Arya and Jon and have the happy sibling relationship they never had in the past. I don’t want her with someone who had a history of whoring, drinking or brutal violence! And at the start she was a silly, superficial girl obsessed with marrying. I think she’s learned and grown and I see her staying single and being a kick-ass Queen in the North, for the time being at least. I’ll be spitting feathers if she gets together with Tyrion and definitely the Hound!

SweetSummerchild · 30/04/2019 18:07

And Sansa should be with her one true love, the hound

“The Hound is dead. Sandor Clegane is at rest.” No, scratch that, everyone wants Cleganebowl.

The Hound died at the end of season 4. What remains is fanservice-bot 1.0 - can say ‘fuck’, can swing an axe and can save Arya again and again.

ClashCityRocker · 30/04/2019 18:15

Hmm, yeah I don't think I'd like sansa and Tyrion. In some ways, it would make sense given her obsession with the stereotypical handsome hero at the start. Tyrion, despite his bravery, is pretty much the opposite of what she'd have chosen as a husband, I think, so it would be a reasonable story arc. I can't see it though - I think there is a mutuality of respect there, but no romantic love.

Also agree that Tyrion is actually a bit of an arsehole - although most people on the show have very dubious pasts. I mean everyone loves Jaime now, despite the fact that he flung a small child from his window after shagging his sister.

It's something the show has done very well - particularly with Theon, I feel.

ElenadeClermont · 30/04/2019 18:25

I am not a fan of Sansa, but she is clearly going to rule something. As a result, she cannot marry for love. There are very few eligible bachelors for a political marriage and Tyrion is one of them.

Tightarseparent1 · 30/04/2019 18:28

How can Jon be a wight? Grin

I think he will die giving his life up protecting some one.

RedForShort · 30/04/2019 18:30

If Jon Snow is a wight , he's not going to be King is he?
Dunno really. I suppose he could; should let being a reanimated corpse keep him from being ambitious!!

Will he die when Bran dies ?
Yes. (Assuming Bran is the Lord of Light.) Do you think Jon burst into flames when Bran dies?

SweetSummerchild · 30/04/2019 18:35

How can Jon be a wight?

GRRM did an interview a couple of years ago where he said that Jon in the show was a bit like Beric Dondarion - a ‘Fire wight’. In the books, Beric loses ‘a bit of himself’ every time he is resurrected; he can’t remember much about his past.

However, in the books Jon Snow is still dead. No one knows how he will be resurrected, but it may not be in the same way as show Jon was. In addition, the showrunners make up in-universe rules in whatever way they want to serve the plot. Hence, Valyrian steel is useless against wights at Hardhome, but is suddenly useful now.

Willyoubuymeahouseofgold · 30/04/2019 18:37

Jon is a good wight because he was brought back from the dead , like Beric, by the Lord of Lnight. I was reading the theory that Bran is the Lord of Light.

ladymarian · 30/04/2019 18:39

I also think that Tyrion will choose Sansa over Dany. I think he will be either her husband or Hand/advisor when she becomes Queen in the North or remains the Lady of Winter fell. I actually think they're great together. I loved their scenes in the crypt!
Not sure who will rule the rest. I think Jon or Dany will die before the end. I'll actually be disappointed if they end up ruling together and happily married!

ElspethFlashman · 30/04/2019 18:52

Well GOT and RPDR have many similarities. The backstabbing, the shadiness, the quips and of course the DEATH DROPS! 😂😂😂

Back in the heady days of Joffrey you couldn't move on the westeros.org forums for people wetting themselves over Sandor and Sansa. SanSan. It was kind gross. They were all like "Sansa will melt his scarred heart and they can go off and have a cottage somewhere and raise chickens". Cos apparently her only purpose was to "fix" an abusive arsehole. Oh and he'd keep her safe from the world blah blah blah incelwankery.

So I for one am cheering that TV Sansa has set her sights much higher i. e. being Lady of Winterfell.

I imagine there is sooooo much frustration out there in the fandom that their ship has turned out to be...... not an actual thing.

Tightarseparent1 · 30/04/2019 18:53

Yes I really liked their scenes in the crypt. I did shed a tear!

hellodarkness · 30/04/2019 18:55

"but it felt very much as if Bran sent him to his death needlessly."

It wasn't needless, someone had to defend Bran until the NK showed up. The plan would've failed if he'd been offed by a random wight. Everyone played their part to get the key players to the right places at the right time.

SweetSummerchild · 30/04/2019 19:05

Personally, I hope Sandor in the books never leave the Quiet Isle. It has home brew, a teletubbies windmill and free therapy. He needs it. It’s the best possible end to his arc.

Summersunshine2 · 30/04/2019 19:10

@TimeIhadaNameChange
He could then let the country go back to being 7 kingdoms, with a parliament of sorts keeping the peace.

I think that's my favourite theory for an ending so far - would fit with Jons story of being the 'rightful aire' but not wanting it.

ThisIsTheEndgame · 30/04/2019 19:11

GOT is reminding me a bit of Babylon 5 now (going a bit niche here, I do appreciate). B5 also defeated the apocalyptic bad fairly early on in the 'last'* season then went back to politics. Also like GoT, the end was more or less planned for the beginning.

(*s4 was supposed to the last season, nobody expected a s5 and they'd more or less tied up all the plots, which is why s5 was terrible and we don't talk of it).

AngeloMysterioso · 30/04/2019 19:12

Lol DH just put it back on for a re-watch of the last half hour and gave up after 5 seconds of seeing nought but our own reflections on an almost completely black screen! At least some of next week’s episode takes place in daylight.

Morgan12 · 30/04/2019 19:18

Can one of you book readers please explain to me what the night king actually wanted?

Me and DH have been discussing and we don't know what his motive was? What were his plans? Why was he creating white walkers etc?

SweetSummerchild · 30/04/2019 19:22

Morgan12 what you see is what you get with the show. Night King wants ‘an endless night’, and to erase the memory of humanity via Bran and that’s that.

In the books the Night’s King is the legendary 13th lord commander of the nights watch who marries the Night’s Queen who is a cold woman with blue eyes. He isn’t a white walker. The history behind his character has probably been distorted over the years.

The white walkers have no Night King in the books and there is no ‘big bad boss’. Very little of them has been seen in the books and there motivation is completely unknown.

yumyumpoppycat · 30/04/2019 19:24

Grin fingers crossed for that sweetsummerchild.

ElenadeClermont · 30/04/2019 19:26

Morgan12 We do not know much about the Others, as they are known in the books. awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Others
The Night's King is a totally different person in the book. He is the 13th Lord Commander of the Nights Watch, and his wife is an Other.
The Others are led by the Great Other according to book Melisandre.
I will have a look in the World book.

ElenadeClermont · 30/04/2019 19:26

Sorry x-post. Flowers

SweetSummerchild · 30/04/2019 19:27

The most likely candidate for ‘big bad boss’ in the books is Euron Greyjoy who is nothing like his show counterpart. He is the one most likely to ‘steal’ a dreagon.

EugenesAxe · 30/04/2019 19:31

Bit late to the party as only just watched the episode - personally I loved it! Didn't need it to be all about Jon S at all. I've skim read so can someone enlighten me on:

38 people left - where does this number come from?
What's this thing about Bran being the Lord of Light and Jon a wight?

I rewatched the trailer for the whole season - you see Cersei smirking with wine, then kind of blinking, like she might be about to cry. I reckon that's something to do with Jaime - either demonstration of his love for Brienne, or his death.

I also had an idea that Dany might go a bit mad king, but I'm not sure now. She and Jon certainly seemed to have each others' backs in that last episode; I thought she might become consumed with jealousy after finding out the truth. If this doesn't happen I can't see what ending is in store for her, though.

I half think that Jon and Sansa will get together, now they aren't brother and sister, and end up uniting the North and South. Although part of me thinks it ridiculous given they grew up in that way together.

The Hound and the Mountain will surely meet and fight.

Arya and the Hound are bonded now, I think. He must be off the list; both saved each other in that last episode - didn't she cover him with an arrow from the battlements?

I have no idea what will happen to Varys, or Tyrion - but I hope they don't die.

I love Brienne; it would be tragic if she died but I have a mind that her tragic death is reserved for Cersei, so that we fully hate the latter when she finally gets obliterated. If Cersei doesn't get obliterated I will be cross.
