If Neville was the one to kill Voldemort, why is Harry the hero any more?

The series is not called Jon Snow and the Game of Thrones.
It's a Game of Thrones. No hero. Just like real life, the hero could end up being the most unlikely player.
See how Obama got to be President. Trump also. When the "hero" was supposed to be Hillary Clinton both times.

Does anyone remember the sell sword that Dani left to rule in her place, the one who loved her?

I wonder if he plays any part in when the battle with the Golden Company comes up. Surely he would have heard of the plan

Figgygal · 30/04/2019 10:07

I think of it all the thing I come back to is melisandre at the end walking out with such grace and having served her purpose fading away

She did some awful things but that was a beautiful moment

LaurieMarlow · 30/04/2019 10:08

The book series is the ‘song of ice and fire’ and Jon Snow is the one who unites ice and fire, hence why his parentage is such a huge reveal.

So I agree, it’s disconcerting to have his importance foreshadowed from the get go only to have the rug pulled from under us now. He seems fairly redundant as a character.

Prequelle · 30/04/2019 10:09

The image of her with the fire in her eyes is breathtaking

I also like how she says she will be dead before the dawn.

No-one realised she meant literally in front of the dawn

agirlhasnonameX · 30/04/2019 10:09

Prequelle I think Daario might somehow get involved too-he's never been one for sitting idle when there's fighting to be had.

Is that why it's called song of Ice and fire? I thought book fans were still debating that? Though it is a while since I have gone down the rabbit hole of book theories rather than TV theories!

Prequelle · 30/04/2019 10:12

Laurie I'm sure the Song part relates to Arya because her name is from a song or something like that. I can't remember now.

Prequelle · 30/04/2019 10:14

That's it. Arya is taken from the name Aria that means 'slow song'.

LaurieMarlow · 30/04/2019 10:17

The whole thing is clearly foreshadowed in the scene where Rhaegar cradles baby Aegon and says something about him being a hero and ‘his is the song of ice and fire’.

But Rhaegar later realises that he’s got the prophecy wrong, which is the catalyst behind the affair with Lyanna.

Jon is the only one to combine Stark and Targaryen bloodlines - Ice and fire.

It’s well established in the fan verse, all coming from the big reveal about his parents.

LaurieMarlow · 30/04/2019 10:19

Sure, but she has no connection with fire. Targaryen = Fire has been drummed into our heads from the get go.

Prequelle · 30/04/2019 10:21

What I'm saying is that the title has all 3 of them in it doesn't it. Not just Ice and Fire. So it stands to reason Arya would play a big part. Jons story isn't over yet anyway I'm sure it won't just be left

SweetSummerchild · 30/04/2019 10:22

A blue flower grew from a chink in a wall of ice, and filled the air with sweetness. . . . mother of dragons, bride of fire . . . Daenerys IV, ACoK

When D&D asked GRRM for the rights to televise the series, he asked them who Jon’s mother was. It is sort of a big deal in the books.

SallyBeach · 30/04/2019 10:22

Would anyone agree that one out of Dany and Jon are now surplus to requirements, and even though the plot has been building to the big all-female Dany Cersei showdown it could very well be Dany dying and Jon being the last one standing. My theory is Dany won't last till the end but Jon will.

An even more crazy theory... If he's the Prince and the prophecy said the prince had to kill the one he loved, could Jon have to kill Dany???? ShockHmm

LaurieMarlow · 30/04/2019 10:28

What I'm saying is that the title has all 3 of them in it doesn't it.

Well that’s a nice way of looking at it.

However, jon’s role as ‘combiner’ of the two always felt important and has been foreshadowed in many ways.

I always felt that if anyone personified ‘ice’ it was Bran. Building on the connection that the Stark’s always had with the Night King. But they’ve obviously gone in a different direction.

Prequelle · 30/04/2019 10:30

Yes it's very nice isn't it :)

agirlhasnonameX · 30/04/2019 10:33

The books are ASOIAF not the show.
I think the story has always been about human conflict.

Prequelle · 30/04/2019 10:33

On another note I do wish we had seen more of the NK in combat. Look at this guy he's amazing

Oblomov19 · 30/04/2019 10:40

I'm struggling to imagine how they are going to fill the next 3 episodes, now the NK is dead.

Episode 3 was very slow, tense, but slow.

Hopefully 4,5 & 6 will be more speedy and action packed.

youngestisapsycho · 30/04/2019 11:00

I assume that we all assume it's gonna be a happy ending... Cersie dead, Jon or Dany on the throne and everyone lives happily ever after.... I'm really hoping not! I think Dany will die, and I have no idea about anyone else?!

IhateBoswell · 30/04/2019 11:06

Although I’d like one, I think a happy ending would be a cop out.
I hope Jaime survives for sure but I can’t see it happening.

agirlhasnonameX · 30/04/2019 11:07

Episode 4 will be slow, politics, planning, dialogue.
Episode 5 will be the battle for KL.
Episode 6 will be the conclusion (obv)

I reeeeally hope it's not a happy ending. It can't be a happy ending surely. The ending is supposedly not that different from how the ending in the books will be, GRRM says it will be 'bitter sweet.'

SapatSea · 30/04/2019 11:21

I for one don't want the ending to be a repeat of "The return of the king" from LOTR and I think GRRM has expressed his disappointment with its happy laughing band at the end when he read it as a youth. I hope the showrunners go for a darker end.

youngestisapsycho · 30/04/2019 11:22

Who will actually head to Kings Landing? I assume Sansa would stay at Winterfell? Sam & Gilly... they dont need to go. Would they take Bran?

SapatSea · 30/04/2019 11:24

Will we ever find out if the Wilding girl who took charge of Rickon made it to a safe place?
