Anyone else caught this new series? The idea is that two architects present different approaches to the renovation/extension/remodel (so far, so humdrum) but then the ideas are presented to the couple in Virtual Reality so they can walk through the scheme to properly visualise how it works. I'd absolutely love to do this: I have no ability to visualise spaces presented on paper plans, especially sizes of rooms. (Unfortunately we have no budget to do it so I'll have to make do with property programmes for now!) There's only been one episode so far but I was impressed by how different the two architects' ideas and styles were to one another (not just your bifold doors and steel supported open plan kitchen that seems to be the go-to for every George Clark and Kirsty Allsop plan). I also like the presenter, who I'd never seen before.

I loved that kitchen. The design was accessible too, and funky enough to be a style statement.

I like the way the designer always encourages use of cheaper units.

I also loved the front room.

But what happened to the utility space?

LizzieMacQueen · 08/05/2019 22:32

They never seem to address the impact the changes have on upstairs when they start moving staircases.

Surely if they'd moved the stairs they'd have arrived at the first floor slap bang in the middle of one of the bedrooms. Same with the Stirling house.

I have open shelving in my (rented) kitchen, means I have to have steps in the narrow gap between worktop and island, is a pain but the extractor is good and they don't get greasy.

Carriemac · 10/05/2019 07:17

They had a utility space behind the door in that glass bit at the end. I love how both architects are so innovative, laura a bit more practical but he has genuine vision.

buggerthebotox · 10/05/2019 07:44

I agree. Fab designs and very innovative, taking into account the budgets available.

I wish they'd come around to mineSmile

The couples all seem nice and normal, none of them annoying in a wanky grand designs way

MrsBlondie · 10/05/2019 09:43

Im so glad the last few have gone with the lady architects ideas.
The male architect always seems to overlook how they would actually live in the house. Sleeping pods, where on earth do clothes go, how about when teenagers, no peace or anywhere for them to go.
Never gives them space for a sofa, just those built in chairs, which look uncomfortable. No real clue on life with kids....

I wondered too about the upstairs of a house if you move the stairs. They didn't do that in the end. Like the fact these couples all pretty much stick to budget or admit its a bit of a struggle. So many of these programmes they find another 100k without blinking lol!

Anyone watching tonight?

Cedilla · 14/05/2019 20:10

Yup.

Just waiting for the built-in seating Grin

woodhill · 14/05/2019 20:15

Interesting necklace

HollowTalk · 14/05/2019 20:19

I'm watching this. Really looking forward to seeing what they do with that house.

TheSpottedZebra · 14/05/2019 20:20

Big windows - check

jay55 · 14/05/2019 20:30

TheSpottedZebra · 14/05/2019 20:30

BENCH SEATING CHECK.

SwedishEdith · 14/05/2019 20:31

70s Youth Club.

woodhill · 14/05/2019 20:31

He's regurgitating last weeks' design.

Is there an open plan toilet too.

TheSpottedZebra · 14/05/2019 20:31

I wish they'd fuck with his head and say that net curtains would look good at that expanse of windows.

jay55 · 14/05/2019 20:32

He really likes exposing the house on the road side too. Goldfish bowl living. It's horrid.

PJMasksAreOnTheirWay · 14/05/2019 20:33

What’s this obsession with seating all round the windows?

How many people do you need to seat?

TheSpottedZebra · 14/05/2019 20:34

She'd never have a clear enough floor in her workroom to open up those giant doors.

PJMasksAreOnTheirWay · 14/05/2019 20:34

Oh my god, how much seating!!!!!

Yubaba · 14/05/2019 20:34

It’s awful

PJMasksAreOnTheirWay · 14/05/2019 20:35

Do they have 27 people living in their house that they need so much seating?

I’m getting obsessed with the seating...

idoliketobebesidethesea · 14/05/2019 20:36

No office space for working at home!

Cedilla · 14/05/2019 20:36

I'm afraid all his designs look like commercial restaurants or something to me. Or they're frankly nuts like the godawful sleep-pods a few weeks ago.
