He has just walked out on court - hair still looking a bit beachy sunkissed waves (ok, not waves exactly) Grin

PrivateIsles · 20/02/2019 03:51

Good win for Delpo! Plays Opelka next - I think he's the 7ft tall guy so probably loads of big serves Hmm

JaneJeffer · 20/02/2019 10:32

I see Martina is getting grief for speaking out about trans athletes when what she's saying is absolutely right and should be listened to.

PrivateIsles · 20/02/2019 19:44

It's absolutely ridiculous isn't it Jane. She's completely right imo. I saw there was talk of whether the BBC should sack her from her Wimbledon role!! Shock Totally outrageous if they did.

Raahh · 20/02/2019 20:07

It's ridiculous, and very, very wrong.

I wouldn't put it past the BBC to sack Martina. It would be terrible if they did, but they are spineless. SadI'd like to think more players would come out to support her.

magimedi · 20/02/2019 22:25

The BBC are a load of tossers - look at how they bowed down to pressure from Rachel McKinnon.

If you feel you belong to the opposite gender to that which you were designated at birth, fine. Wear a bra or Y fronts - I have no problem

But, as far as I am concerned, if you have a dick you are male & should not be in any space that is designated female. End of.

Very (mainly) supportive thread for Martina HERE

Jeez - trans problems, brexit................ I didn't think I'd spend my old age in such a fucking froth!!

PrivateIsles · 21/02/2019 03:27

Completely agree with all you said magi

JaneJeffer · 21/02/2019 09:35

I've pointed out before how they never acknowledge Martina's wife when she's in the Royal box at Wimbledon despite pointing out every other Tom, Dick and Harry's wife so if they fire her over this they are total hypocrites.

Hello all you lovely tennis fans. Can I ask how you're watching the matches now it's not on sky sports. I'm trying to work out the best option for my dm, however she doesn't have broadband at the moment so it's quite difficult working out the best option for her. She will get broadband if needed. Does she need tennis tv, amazon prime or Eurosport player? It all seems very confusing. Am I right in thinking all the matches are spread out between a number of different broadcasters?

Help! I'm confused. Sorry for the rambled post!

Raahh · 21/02/2019 13:30

Hi Tommy

It is confusing, and I had a similar problem with my gran last year- the problem I've now got, is she has just signed up to Sky again- and they are no longer showing the main ATP tournaments that Sky did.
I found this useful tennisontelly.

The main matches looking at that will be on Amazon Prime. From my experience of their coverage of the US open last year- I can only hope they improve!

Raahh · 21/02/2019 13:34

Looking at that article, it would seem Tennis TV is a good option for the year- and as it says, sign up for the US open for a month's Amazon prime trial. (I already had Prime, fortunately).

I don't have Sky- so I will actually be able to watch more than previously- but I don't find Amazon very user friendly- but like I said, hopefully they will have taken criticisms of the US open on board, and improved it.

JaneJeffer · 21/02/2019 13:35

Hi Tommy I'm not able to watch any at the moment and am keeping up with events on FlashScore.

Sky seems to have lost all their tennis to Amazon Prime so that may be her best bet.

BT Sport and Eurosport have some of the tournaments. WTA Dubai on BT at the moment.

It's mostly a matter of frantically searching everywhere or randomly stumbling across some tennis Grin

OP posts:
PrivateIsles · 21/02/2019 20:31

Yes I agree - prime + BT would cover a lot, and if your mum ends up getting BT broadband I think BT sport is included/cheaper as well.

It's a hassle tbh and annoying that tennis spreads itself over all these different broadcasters, although the current set up is probably cheaper than Sky was. (Except we can't cancel sky because of rugby! But we have prime anyway so it's ok, but we aren't paying extra for BT so I never see any women's tennis except at the slams. Which is annoying.)

Anyway. I hope you get it sorted, once it's in place I think you get used to it and it's fine, although the Amazon ATP coverage I've seen so far has been a bit basic, it does the job.

magimedi · 21/02/2019 22:12

I long for the day when all TV is on a pay-as-you-watch basis.

TommyandGina · 22/02/2019 07:39

Thanks for your help, looks like an Amazon Prime account might be the way forward for her - or at least a starting point.

It's really very frustrating, you would've thought the ATP would want to make viewing as easy as possible. With it dotted around all over the place surely they're risking losing fans?

kazzaD66 · 22/02/2019 07:44

I see Delpo has just won.
Also in the quarters is Dan Evans, having come through qualifying and beating Tiafoe in the first round. I know he's done some stupid things and some people on here don't have a lot of time for him, but fair play to him, he's having a great week!

JaneJeffer · 22/02/2019 11:25

Money talks Tommy. Sky have lost a lot of the football as well and that's all on different channels now too.

OP posts:
PrivateIsles · 22/02/2019 20:58

And the ones who lose out are people like us who just want to follow the sport - so annoying.

I read somewhere Delpo is weighing up whether to play tomorrow or not because of his knee...

Raahh · 22/02/2019 21:04

oh no Sad

Raahh · 22/02/2019 21:06

of course, there's a lot at stake, because of defending Indian Wells, as well. Sad.

PrivateIsles · 22/02/2019 21:29

Yes he said he was thinking of IW in deciding. I mean, there's no point him busting a gut (or knee) now, he's won two matches which is all good, no point pushing himself for the next one, imo. But he never listens to our advice Grin

PrivateIsles · 23/02/2019 04:37

So Delpo lost in DB. He had a lot of bandaging on his knee. And he argued with a spectator at the end Grin

Mackenzie McDonald did the weirdest celebration I've ever seen (apart from Bartoli's after she won Wimbledon, that is). He smashed his racquet at the net, it bounced up and nearly hit him in the face Confused

PrivateIsles · 23/02/2019 07:45

And now Delpo has withdrawn from Acapulco, which tbf is probably a good move, but means no chance of seeing him with the sombrero!! Hope for Rafa tho - if he's playing that is.

Raahh · 23/02/2019 09:13

Well, poor Delpo, that bloody knee! We knew it looked horrible at the time he did it and it looks like it's going to take a lot longer to recover from than first thought.
He has crap luck with injuries.Sad.

That celebration sounds like one not to be repeatedGrin

kazzaD66 · 23/02/2019 22:21

Crikey, Dan Evans has beaten Isner to get to the final of Delray Beach. I'd like to have seen the handshake at the net - there's more than a foot between them Grin
