A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the Kdrama-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, but the more seriously addicted have other sources, including dramabus.

Previous Threads, with discussion of what we’ve enjoyed and what to avoid:

Here are some suggestions for shows that we’ve enjoyed - those marked with an asterisk are more uniformly loved:

Because This Is My First Life (Viki)*
Black (Netflix)*
Chicago Typewriter (Viki)*
Don’t Dare to Dream (Netflix, or as Jealousy Incarnate on Viki)*
Fight For My Way (Drama bus)*
Healer (Netflix)*
His Master’s Sun (Netflix)
I Hear Your Voice (Netflix /Viki)
Last Train to Busan - film (Amazon Prime)
Live (Netflix)
Love from a Star (netflix)*
Pinocchio (netflix)
Prison Playbook (Netflix)*
Goblin (Viki)
She Was Pretty (Dramabus/Netflix)
Something in the Rain (Netflix)

Suspicious Partner (netflix)*
W (Viki & Netflix)*
What’s Up With Secretary Kim (Viki)*
While You Were Sleeping (viki)

We have some lovely occasional posters who have lived in Korea, are Korean or have Korean partners/family members who pop in from time to time to provide the context for some of the more baffling cultural references.

If you want to know your oppas from your unnis try this helpful guide to Korean terms of address and honorifics.

We are generally fans of all things Korean, so equally happy to talk about Korean cookery, film and kpop when the mood takes us. To get to grips with the lingo, try dramaloveaddicts.proboards.com/thread/24/korean-word-day?page=1

If you want to join us down the kdrama rabbit hole, welcome! Pull up a chair, say goodbye to early nights and get stuck in…

boatyardblues · 16/02/2019 19:31

I like the fake office romance and timid guy pwning the ‘princess’ co-worker’s awful mum when she showed up at his flat. Grin

Also still in the midst of chaos in Seoul!..
D-day... Disaster galore! And now ML doctor has got PTSD... It's an angst fest! But worth a watch if you feel like disaster and hysteria! 😁😱

boatyardblues · 16/02/2019 20:00

I might save it for the run up to Brexit so I can get some tips on riding out a catastrophe, Bea. Is it viki or Netflix?

OP posts:
Bea · 16/02/2019 20:10

😂😂😂 Boatyard! You're right! Brexit makes D Day look like a lovely day out!!... It's on Viki!... After I've watched a couple of eps... I feel all grubby and need of a shower! It's all that dodging falling masonry and crawling into collapsed buildings to then be confronted with two patients in need of saving!.. But oh no! All I've got is a bic pen.. Scissors and chewing gum!! 😱

Bea · 16/02/2019 20:11

Call MCGYVAR!! 😂😁

Bea · 16/02/2019 20:15

Gah!
MACGYVER!

thought it didn't look right!!... You have to forgive me! I've not watched English entertainment since before Christmas!

I'm kdrama and BTS'd out!!

bettys · 16/02/2019 20:21

Ooh I do like a good disaster drama! Is there any romance?

Bea · 16/02/2019 23:09

Oh yes! Romance a plenty! It's good!

But even gooder!.

The Rebel!... On ep 4!.... It's a good un so far!... Getting lots of back story and character development and the hero hasn't even turned up yet! 👍👍👍😊

Just starting another episode of Temperature of Love. I should really go to bed, I can’t tear myself away from 2ML Kim Jae-Wook’s amazing chiselled cheek bones and sharply tailored suits. I am especially loving all the Nehru-style collared shirts teamed with very fine, contrasting roundneck knitwear. The food is beautiful too.

Bea · 17/02/2019 00:11

Looks like we've all found something good!!... I'm giving myself a 🍊👢... It's time for bed!
And for you too Boatyardblues! 👢🍊😊😁

boatyardblues · 17/02/2019 00:35

Thanks Bea - I’ll be off soon.

I want to know which neighbourhood of Seoul Temperature of Love is filmed in. It’s probably the equivalent of Chelsea or Knightsbridge and ₩₩₩ (that’s £££ in Won), but it looks really nice & I reckon I could live there quite happily.

I’ve decided the rooftop apartment trope is useful because it allows for outdoor hang-out scenes away from street noise and also gawping locals getting under the crew’s feet. And Betty and Bea fangirling like pros.

OP posts:
bettys · 17/02/2019 08:46

fangirling like pros? I don’t know what you mean!! 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️

boatyardblues · 17/02/2019 09:05

Allergy episode in Temperature has irked me. Slack procedures in the kitchen, insdequate labelling and does no-one carry an epipen in Korea? Very good make-up and acting though.

bettys · 17/02/2019 09:48

I have dipped in to Temperature of Love and like all the stuff about producing dramas.

Weren't the ML & FL in Dr Romantic? Except she copped off with Dong-Mae Yoo Yeong Seok?

boatyardblues · 17/02/2019 09:51

Yes, he was the lovely make nurse.

OP posts:
boatyardblues · 17/02/2019 09:52

Male!

OP posts:
boatyardblues · 17/02/2019 09:57

Also, the asst director who is sweet on FL’s writing assistant has definitely played a ratbag cheating husband in something I’ve seen, but none of the shows listed on his wiki entry are immediately bringing the role/show to mind.

OP posts:
bettys · 17/02/2019 10:35

Oh I thought he played the evil hospital directors doctor son who also had a crush on the female doctor
