A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the Kdrama-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, but the more seriously addicted have other sources, including dramabus.

We have some lovely occasional posters who have lived in Korea, are Korean or have Korean partners/family members who pop in from time to time to provide the context for some of the more baffling cultural references.

If you want to know your oppas from your unnis try this helpful guide to Korean terms of address and honorifics.

We are generally fans of all things Korean, so equally happy to talk about Korean cookery, film and kpop when the mood takes us. To get to grips with the lingo, try dramaloveaddicts.proboards.com/thread/24/korean-word-day?page=1

If you want to join us down the kdrama rabbit hole, welcome! Pull up a chair, say goodbye to early nights and get stuck in…

Very unexpected ‘reveal’ at the end of ep 4 of P&P. I am thoroughly enjoying it. I particularly like how stony the FL is with Ian McShane (good call Betty!) and how close she’s sailing to getting fired, but giving absoutely no indication of giving a single fuck. Given how tiny she is (as is so often the case), she has the balls of a bull elephant.

boatyardblues · 28/01/2019 20:56

I’ve just realised there are 21 episodes of P&P. 😱 Although that’s not necessarily a bad thing. 😀

Aww. Granny is a great character. The scene in the neighbour’s house when Granny and Chan come to find Kang Soo (2ML) to see him off (being deliberately vague) is really touching. He’s so tall but so broken and she is so tiny, fierce and reassuring, its a great scene.

OP posts:
bettys · 28/01/2019 21:16

Ah no I am really liking 2ML but I have s bad feeling about it now 😞

boatyardblues · 28/01/2019 21:20

Bear with, Betty. I think it might be a temporary blip. It would be criminal to cast him and not make the most of him.

OP posts:
boatyardblues · 28/01/2019 21:22

Ooh. Getting the reprobate neighbour’s back story now. This is cracking. It’s soooo twisty.

Paging Seadays and AmI.... Cultural reference help needed please: why do friends and family always turn up with a massive block of tofu when someone gets out of hospital or jail? Is it seen as being food that builds you up? Or comfort food? Or bland and filling, in case your tum is unsettled? I also struggle with people hoiking it out of a black carrier bag unpackaged, as small black carrier bags in the UK are usually dog poo bags. 🤮

Bea · 28/01/2019 23:27

I think the Tofu thing must be like the Chinese equivalent of Oranges... For visits... Going to see someone you've not seen in a while... Take oranges.. Going to visit someone who's not been well?... Take oranges... Going to see someone to congratulate or commiserate?... Take Oranges... Well... In our family we did /do! 😂

Bea · 28/01/2019 23:29

Dh and I are quite enjoying the Guardians... It's full of intrigue and skullduggery... Worth a watch and Dh actually requested I wait for him so he can watch too!!... What's the world coming to?!.... He'll be listening to BTS soon!!... (it's possible! He's quite biddable!) 😂👍😁

boatyardblues · 28/01/2019 23:30

Are oranges an exotic luxury item in China? I envy the twelvety-zillion types of tea you can get in China. I reckon I could forego oranges if it meant access to exciting teas, although we’d have to switch out buck’s fizz from our Xmas Day breakfast.

Well I have finished Familiar Wife and can recommend. Apart from the going back in time thing it is quite realistic about relationships and how they can go wrong. On my enjoyed list but not top 10. I do like Ji Sung though.
Ooh and there’s a cameo from Jo Jung Suk as Edward Kang from Oh MY GHost 😄

Bea · 29/01/2019 13:34

Have we moved on from top 5s now and have to have a top 10!? 😁😂... It's like choosing which of your children you like the best! 😂😂😂😂😂

boatyardblues · 29/01/2019 13:40

I’m doing a top 10 because a top 5 wasn’t enough. It’s getting harder and harder to choose.

I am absolutely loving Pride & Prejudice. There are lots of good supporting characters as well as good leads. It’s very twisty and I have no idea where I will be at the end of 21 episodes. Also, all of the leads have humble origins, so wealth and the whole princess fantasy angle are off the table. It’s making for some great telly.

OP posts:
bettys · 29/01/2019 14:14

Top 5 def isn’t enough for me either, and to be honest WWWSec Kim has been knocked out of it, although still in top 10 (just)

Bea · 29/01/2019 14:31

Bettys! I concur... Sec Kim is still beloved... But... Others are squeezing it out!!... Maybe Boatyardblues has got to us in the end!... 🤔... Vice Chairman!... Forgive me!! 😭... Though its deffo top 10... I think! 😍❤️😢

Bea · 29/01/2019 14:34

bettys · 29/01/2019 14:57

Yippeee!!!! That’s Saturday so we’re only a week behind! Netflix seem to have most of TOasty LYS apart from WYWS

Bea · 29/01/2019 15:06

Do you think it'll be the whole lot?... As it's airing now... Will it be an ep a week?... I need to watch all at once!
😍❤️😍❤️

bettys · 29/01/2019 15:09

Klaxon!!!!

Now on Netflix - Kill Me Heal Me with Ji Sung from Famiar WIfe and PSJ who in this plays the brother of the FL from She Was Pretty 🤨

bettys · 29/01/2019 15:23

Bea it will be an episode or two a week

Bea · 29/01/2019 16:42

wooo hoo! PSJ! on Netflix....Thanks Bettys! How do you manage to keep up with what's new on Netflix apart from just looking up Coming Soon???

bettys · 29/01/2019 16:49

I only looked cos of Romance is a Bonus Book or whatever it’s called. The easiest way to find new stuff is to search by actor name I’ve found

bettys · 29/01/2019 17:12

Episode 2 of Pride & Prejudice and I may have a new oppa (or two!) . That’s another list that might need rearranging and another spiral! Woo-hoo!

There has to be an end to the oppas somewhere. Choi Jin-Hyuk is also in The Last Empress currently airing & on Viki 😄

boatyardblues · 29/01/2019 17:20

See, Choi Jin-Hyuk just looks like a giant in Devilish Joy, but ML2 in P&P evens him out. It took a while for me to realise that FL in P&P was also tiny, because the men are often sitting down in meetings etc. Somehow she seems less tiny because her character is so bolshy and fearless, but she is. Yes, I am also enjoying it as much for the beautiful men as the twisty story. I know this already dead obvious, but I love all these very tall MLs. I just wish there were more tall women too. Doll-sized seems to be the default.
