At the risk of getting boring, Encounter has started beautifully. I even had to watch a bit over breakfast. 😊

The reviews were a bit mixed, let us know how it continues, it sounds like a good weekend binge

I can see it wouldn’t suit viewers who love madcap, cutesy kdrama “melo”, but I like a slower burn with lovely cinematography and lingering glances. Both leads are likeable and relateable in their own way.

Anyway I'm spiralling on CJH so even though subs STILL aren't up for ep 44 of Last Empress there's still Prosecutor Gu and Tunnel and maybe a bit of Devilish Joy.

Encounter starts in Cuba, so I’m enjoying all the incidental Cuban music which Viki has thoughtfully subtitled too.

I’m starting to think marrying a chaebol heir is not all its cooked up to be. This poor FL is many years divorced and still she has such limited autonomy. 😞

Quite refreshing that there's no chaebols in sight in either P&P or Tunnel.

Quite. I think being part of a chaebol family is like being a rock star, royal or famous actress: great on paper to be “living the dream,” but a chore and very limiting in practice.

Ep14 P&P and I'm really really loathing Mr Mun (Ian mcshane!)... He just makes my skin crawl!.. The way he chews gum... Barges in a room... Shouts and bullies... I suppose its good acting and writing... But I just hate him! I just want to fast forward all his scenes!!... He'd better get a good ending!! 😡😡😡😡

But Bea... Choi Jin Hyuk. Ian McShane is there to make CJH even more enjoyable to watch. He’s the rough to CJH’s smooth. And don’t forget Lee Tae-Hwan.

Encounter is slooooow. I can see why it would have haterz, but I like it. The pacing and general mood reminds me of Because This Is My First Kife.

Oh I know! He's there to be spectacularly bad... But... I don't understand why they aren't shouting back at him! Is hierarchy soooo imp in the Korean workplace!!? 😡

Yes, I think so. Deference to seniority seems to be “a thing.” I was interested to read that English > Korean translators struggle with the lack of honorifics and relational terms in English because it makes it hard to convey the nature of the relationships to Koreean readers.

I have to confess I’ve been ffwding the Ian McShane bits to get to the CJH bits

Hum yes interesting, I can’t think of anything other than sir or maybe ma’am as honorifics....and certainly not used much in the workplace as everyone mostly gets called by name not title
