pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 17/02/2019 19:33

Love this thread.

Sniggering to myself at the willy warmer bootees. My mil promised my dh a pair of red corduroy trousers when he was about 3. He awaits yet...

I am also a fabric stasher... but then when I decide on a project I never seem to have the “right” one so I have to get more. 🤷‍♀️

I watched this purely because I love Joe Lycett.

I grew up in the 60s and my mum made all our clothes. As a child I could use a sewing machine and used to make intricate dolls clothes.
Fast forward 50 years and the only things I have seen since childhood are hems of DC school trousers.
I had a real deja vu moment watching them see zips, DH was quite amused at me saying I used to be able to do that!
I had completely forgotten that I ever knew how to sew.
Now hooked.

Rade · 17/02/2019 19:52

Sewn not seen.....

FuzzyPuffling · 17/02/2019 20:09

Next on.....The Great British Wonderweb Bee. Great work fontella

dontcallmelen · 17/02/2019 20:15

Fuzzy 😂 that about sums up my capabilities.

Fontella · 17/02/2019 21:12

Envies organised pasta that doesn't leap out of the cupboard and disappear into furthest corners of kitchen floor

... and what you don't see in that pic, is with the leftover fabric I cut circles and secured them over the lids of said pasta jars with laccy bands to make fancy flowery fabric lids to match me curtain!

There's just no limit to my talents.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 17/02/2019 21:20

dontcallmelen · 17/02/2019 21:41

Fontella · 17/02/2019 21:53

Yeah, and I've undersold myself.

Just went down to make a cuppa and realised not only have I secured said pasta lid tops with laccy bands I have also concealed laccy bands with rustic string tied round and knotted.

dontcallmelen · 17/02/2019 21:55

Faints into heap, rustic string has tipped me over into unconsciousness.

TheSassyAssassin · 17/02/2019 21:58

fleas that made me laugh out loud!!! It was the addition of "With rustic string" 😂😂😂

Fontella · 17/02/2019 21:59

I know!

I'm impressing meself here!

That sewing teacher at school has a lot to answer for. Dented my confidence she did. There's nothing wrong with upside down blanket stitch and just because I was a bit on the slow side. Two years for an apron isn't that long.

I'm thinking of buying a sewing machine and having a crack at a summer wardrobe.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 17/02/2019 22:14

Could someone please tell me what an overlocker does? They seem very expensive. Inexplicably, I want one.

Why stop there, Fontella? Why not release a Collection?

dontcallmelen · 17/02/2019 22:24

Yy Fontella Fabulous Frocks
Shakes fist at needlework teacher I could have a contender if only she believed in me & didn’t consign me to sweeping the floor

Fontella · 17/02/2019 22:43

I've just got to think carefully about how to incorporate rustic string
into my Summer Collection.

tobee · 17/02/2019 22:53

Only just seen about this on my Facebook feed! Came here and knew you guys would be well ahead of me! Happy this is back! 🥳🥳🥳

tobee · 17/02/2019 22:56

Omg! Just realised I'm even further behind than I thought BlushBlushBlush

Halsall · 17/02/2019 22:57

myimaginarycat they sew the seam but also finish it by wrapping the raw edges with thread, thus:

It's by no means essential, obviously, but it allows you to give garments a more professional finish. A lot of ordinary sewing machines do have a faux-overlock stitch, though iirc generally you have to do them separately from the seam itself (can't remember offhand and I'm nowhere near my machine!)
