I like Joe Lycett but I did find him irritating at first. He seems to get along very well with everyone that he works with, which is often not the case for both comedians and presenters. I listened to that RHLSTP episode too, and Esme and he seem very fond of each other, she was funny from the audience.

FuzzyCustard · 18/01/2019 20:09

Hello all. May I join you please? I love GBSB and am hoping to be inspired to make clothes again.

I saw the trailer today for the first time - coming soon - but they usually seem to air these about a week before the programme. My eyes are peeled...

BestIsWest · 18/01/2019 23:23

12th Feb I believe, as PP said.

Love this programme.

Lovely Lorna Sad

DarlingNikita · 19/01/2019 13:58

Oh, that is sad about Lorna!

There's some slightly weird comments about some of the others:
'hopefully Ann is still enjoying sewing' Does that mean they can't get in touch with her?
'[Matt] runs a blog with his wife called Sew What’s New? Which has a mix of sewing, baking and crafts. Although there haven’t been much activity on the blog or his social media for a year or so.'

Raahh · 19/01/2019 14:10

I love Sewing Bee! I can't sew, much to my mothers disappointmentGrin as I grew in a household where she made all our clothes, and covered sofas, and could make curtains etc.

I don't mind Joe. He can be quite funny, but I will miss Claudia.

I'm very sad about 'Throwdown' too. DD1(12) and I still randomly shout 'Pot of the weeeek' at each other, for no reason. Grin. I loved the crying presenter , in his minion dungarees Grin.

Callmecordelia · 19/01/2019 14:13

Ann is still active on Ravelry, she knits beautiful things.

BestIsWest · 19/01/2019 14:46

The crying presenter from Pot Off is on the Victorian house craft show on Fridays BBC2. There will be more tears I’m sure.

woollyheart · 19/01/2019 14:54

Anyone know why the Throwdown was canned?

I really enjoyed it! And you would find an odd mix of people saying they watched it. It was good to have a programme about making things that wasn't food again.

DarlingNikita · 19/01/2019 15:02

The BBC statement was (unsurprisingly) woolly and waffled about 'having to make tough decisions' etc.

I do think it was a bad move. Pottery seems to be getting more and more popular.

TrashPanda · 19/01/2019 18:54

Throw down guy was also on an episode of made in great britain with steph mcgovern.

FuzzyCustard · 19/01/2019 19:13

Throw down guy (Kevin?) was on the Victorian Arts & Crafts programme last night. Still looked like he might cry!

FuzzyCustard · 19/01/2019 19:14

Just noticed Best is West just said that, more or less. Sorry, I got over-excited.

BestIsWest · 19/01/2019 19:16

Grin Fuzzy. I’ve got one of his mugs and a little milk jug. I love them.

ZaZathecat · 19/01/2019 19:18

What about the Great Interior Design Challenge? I haven't seen that for ages either.

Haggisfish · 19/01/2019 19:18

Love this programme!

MamaLovesMango · 19/01/2019 19:19

YES!!!! I love this. Can’t wait! I really want to get inspired to start making clothes for my kids.

I never managed The Throwdown but I did enjoy The Allotment Challenge before that got binned.

Mudmonster · 19/01/2019 19:26

A lot of the previous contestants do segments on sewing quarter and I follow a few on Insta as well.
It’s a new sewing producer for this series too, the previous one isn’t coming back. (The person who designs the challenges)

bringmelaughter · 19/01/2019 19:33

Does anyone know if there’s anywhere you can watch old episodes? I famcy getting in the mood for a new series by binge watching past series.

FuzzyCustard · 19/01/2019 19:46

Best I'm very jealous of you having a mug & Jug by Keith (not Kevin....told you I was overexcited). Where did you get them from?

BestIsWest · 19/01/2019 19:53

Aberystwyth University shop of all places! But I think he has his own website now.

ElspethFlashman · 19/01/2019 19:57

I think I must be the only one here who hasn't a balls who Joe Lycett is. I like Claudia but see enough of her on Strictly so I don't think I'll miss her really.

..... Well except gawping at her fab big coats and v expensive motorcycle boots.....

FuzzyCustard · 19/01/2019 20:29

Does Joe Lycett know anything about sewing? (He may do) I'd quite like the presenter to have a small Scooby about the subject matter.

ThanksItHasPockets · 20/01/2019 00:42

Does Joe Lycett know anything about sewing?

Based on absolutely no insider knowledge whatsoever, I doubt it. Claudia frequently played up to the fact that she was clueless, just as Mel and Sue did about the technical elements on GBBO. It’s clearly the Love Productions model to have a non-expert presenter, so that the contestants and judges can explain things to the audience via them.

Iamtheworst · 20/01/2019 00:49

Is it not about time there was a BBC craft channel so we can reinstate throwdown and have sewing bee every year???
This year I’m making matchin boxing shorts for DH and ds. And then I’ll make them wear them.

SaturdayNext · 20/01/2019 01:02

I suspect the problem with Throwdown is that it must be quite difficult to find enough potters at a reasonable level of competence who are willing to appear.
