Does anyone know when it’s on?

Surely the "bootees" could be used together if attached with some elastic as testicle warmers? That way both are in use? Or am I overthinking this? 😂 A MN repurposing challenge would be brilliant!

SoupDragon · 17/02/2019 10:35

I think over warm testicles have an adverse effect on fertility so it might not be practical.

FuzzyPuffling · 17/02/2019 10:38

Contraceptive bootees!

TheSassyAssassin · 17/02/2019 10:49

But we could combine threads and offer them to some of the Donkeys On Ice! Helping them out in the cooler climes and all that... instead of Woolly Hugs we could offer Willy Shrugs!

dontcallmelen · 17/02/2019 10:55

Has rummage in cupboard for forty year old bootees/willy/testicle warmers, goes into repurposed/contraceptive business with fellow posters, we will be millionaire this time next year

@LoversLane, it’s surprisingly easy if you sew regularly. In a day depending on what I’m doing I can swap between my 1920’s treadle, my 1980’s basic Singer, my 1990’s fancy Bernina, my computerised Brother, my embroidery machine or my serger. I also have a basic early 2000’s Silvercrest which was an Aldi special that my boys are learning on. I just usually plan my project so I know which of the machines I’ll need to use to complete it which helps with getting my head around changing machine during projects.

Halsall · 17/02/2019 11:35

LoversLane, I haven't used a hand-wheel Singer (the one I learned on as a child - one of those lovely late-Victorian machines covered in decorated transfers) for many (ahem, ahem) years, but not so long ago I saw one in a charity shop and as soon as I picked up the old bullet-shaped shuttle I remembered exactly how to wind and load it. I think it's a sort of muscle memory.

I now have an 80's Bernina, a modern computerised Janome and an overlocker (the Lidl special). Threading that successfully was one of my proudest and most nerve-racking sewing achievements 😳

Contraceptive bootees!

Well, would you shag a man with bootees on his testicles?

Fontella · 17/02/2019 12:06

You know on Bake Off Extra Slice where the viewers have a go at making cakes at home and send in photos of the 'disaster' results?.

This is the Sewing Bee equivalent. The hand knitted sewn together bed spread coming apart at the seams, the rusty pin curtains, the stapled trousers, the half knitted bootees / willy warmers, the beaded extending hem cocktail dress.

We start out with the best of intentions but somehow it all goes horribly wrong ...

Confused
Myimaginarycathasfleas · 17/02/2019 12:24

They need us Fontella

I can see it now - "TGBSB - The Director's Cut"

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 17/02/2019 12:26

Well, would you shag a man with bootees on his testicles?

About as likely as someone in a mankini, Soup Confused

dontcallmelen · 17/02/2019 12:52

Yesssss they definitely need us, maybe I could convert the lace/12ft scarf to a Mankini🤔

UatuTheWatcher · 17/02/2019 13:31

@Halsall, I'm with you on the threading of my Coverlock. I felt like I deserved a medal from the Queen Grin

Halsall · 17/02/2019 15:07

Uatu, I know! I could have paid considerably more and bought one of those fancy air-threader ones, but the Lidl price was too tempting....I paid for it in shredded nerves though 😱

I think we can be all relieved that some of the people on this thread won't be doing the repurposing challenge on Sewing Bee...

I resent that comment Soup ! Angry

I have frequently and very effectively made floorcloths out of old tee-shirts - so there!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/02/2019 15:28

One of the few spin-offs more popular than the original . . . Grin

dontcallmelen · 17/02/2019 17:12

Yy floorcloths, I’m very good at those I can tear up old T-shirt’s really really well

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 17/02/2019 17:22

I used to know an old lady who made dusters out of her DH's underwear. As her friend said, "It's just not nice is it? I don't want to touch any surface that's been wiped with Jack's old pants!"

dontcallmelen · 17/02/2019 17:28

😂😂 my DMil used to do that with Fil old Y fronts.

glamorousgrandmother · 17/02/2019 17:32

Using old pants etc as dusters used to be pretty standard.

SoupDragon · 17/02/2019 17:49

I said some of the people...

Fontella · 17/02/2019 18:28

stealth boast alert

Ahem .... I bought a bit of fabric and some wonderweb and curtain wire and made summat out of it!

I had two open shelves in my kitchen (like a unit where they had forgotten to put the door on) and it used to annoy the hell out of me.

So I went to a fabric shop walked around looking all knowledgeable playing the part of the expert seamstress, purchased said fabric, measured gap, cut fabric, wonderwebbed top and bottom, threaded curtain wire through ... and voila!

Sewing. Who needs it?

Ooooh Fontella tis a thing of beauty, looks round wondering what I can wonderweb.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/02/2019 19:04

Excellent Fontanella - I am impressed.

But you made work for yourself - all that ironing!

Staples would have done the job just as well . . . Grin

(Seriously - it looks lovely - and I'm very impressed with how tidy your benches are - mine are covered with dog biscuits, butter knives, bowls of pears etc)
