Anyone else putting themselves through this?

I will cry for sure.

My cat is watching it too. He never takes any notice of the tv usually.

alansleftfoot · 23/12/2018 20:00

Nice tribute with the bench

SleepySofa · 23/12/2018 20:30

It’s all wrong. All wrong.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 23/12/2018 21:56

I think they just made them too human like. The humor wasn't right. In the original they were rabbits, talking rabbits, but they didnt act like humans.

It was all a bit dark and it was hard to tell which rabbit was which.

The original is still the best :)

Belindabauer · 23/12/2018 21:58

I cried at the end.

Hofuckingho · 23/12/2018 22:04

It was bad, especially as they changed the story. They missed out the best bit, where the rabbits escape on a boat down the river.

BayandBlonde · 23/12/2018 22:13

Absolutely not. I watched the original as a child and the scene of Hazel passing at the end just upsets me too much. And I'm old now Blush

LivingDeadGirlUK · 23/12/2018 22:30

@Hofuckingho its so odd how they took out dramatic bits like that but then added the ridiculous farm house bit.

Hofuckingho · 23/12/2018 23:09

Absolutely. The book is a masterpiece! Why they changed the story is a total mystery.

Rafflesway · 24/12/2018 00:21

Nah, won't be a patch without the voice of the late, very great John Hurt!

Haven't watched the new version but wept buckets at the "Time to go" line in the original and I was in my early 20's. 😥

ChristmasSprite · 24/12/2018 00:38

WS very bland, something really lacki g with the ahot s if rabbits just running across landscapes, had no impact somehow. You couldn't hear any actual running and the rabbits looked like hares as others saying,.

Was so disappointed when I heard Keehah who was so brilliantly overacted in the original! Don't want to knock Peter capaldy but just not the same, again, lacking impact.

What a shame, but was worried, we all were, after the PTSD from the original.

I think the cartoon version although obviously a lot more simple was just so gripping and engaging.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 24/12/2018 08:12

We enjoyed it but there again we've read it at school and have seen the origina many times over. I think that most of yesterday's episode was 'in the dark' made it hard to concentrate and one rabbit looked very much like another (except for Bigwig with his 'tuft'). I enjoyed McKenzie Crook's rabbit and think John Boyega did well as Bigwig but not convinced by any of the others really. They could have made it with a cast of virtual unknowns and I don't think it would have suffered (and presumably been loads cheaper to make?).

sherrysfortea · 24/12/2018 09:41

I had a nightmare about this film last night from people discussing it on Facebook SadSad the original was traumatising

I can't face the new one but know W someone who has watched it and said it's just as bad

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 24/12/2018 12:42

It's quite a dark production in many ways - not entirely Christmas family friendly IMHO.

ChristmasSprite · 24/12/2018 12:48

but then again we read it at school not sure what that means in this context that you enjoyed it more because you read it?

We read the book also, didn't enjoy it more. Shame, and quite shocked really, considering the amount of talent involved.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 24/12/2018 13:04

Reading the book helped us to understand what was going on (which you wouldn't necessarily have done if you'd not done so), although much of yesterday's episode was different to the story.

ChristmasSprite · 24/12/2018 14:21

Yes, but that's not what I said, as we read read the book..I don't understand how that makes its more enjoyable...it was still a rubbish portrayal, lacking in engaging technique

SleepySofa · 24/12/2018 14:45

I don’t understand why they had to mess around with the story so much. The animation was bad enough but the second half was just so messed up.

safetyfreak · 24/12/2018 14:47

The animation really got to me so I stopped watching after 10 minutes. Seems I didn't miss much.

SleepySofa · 24/12/2018 14:51

TBH, thr fact that the book is one of my favourite novels ever, which I’ve re read many times, made me hate this adaptation even more!

purpleme12 · 25/12/2018 01:01

I've watched the 2nd part now. I wasn't that bothered to be honest. I was expecting something different with what everyone says. I think I enjoyed the 1st episode more. Quite disappointed, what with what everyone says about it

uer587392 · 26/12/2018 00:33

Horrible, hateful ending. Hazel is supposed to die years later, after a long and happy life. In this, he just died, what, the following Spring? It totally took away the 'Happy Ending'. Ugh.

uer587392 · 26/12/2018 00:34

In the film he was all grizzled and old and deaf at the end. Not taken in his prime

Cancels licence fee payments

UrsulaPandress · 26/12/2018 08:21

The Black Rabbit prophesies his long and fruitful existence.

KlutzyDraconequus · 26/12/2018 08:25

I can't get passed the animation... It's terrible. For £20million of license payer money I'd expect better than something looking like it's from a decade ago.

Just another excuse for BBC to give wealthy actors money for doing little.
