I'll definitely be watching that.

Merry Christmas, you lovely bunch. Hope you're all planning the plating of your festive meals. I expect lots of perimeters and a few compotes. Don't forget the nasturtium leaves.

Thank you Halsall! I’ll raise a perimeter of sherry to you all in the new place

(And Gregg of course!)

Taffeta · 20/12/2018 21:26

Kin awesome thread chaps Flowers

So pleased Lolly won Smile

Footle · 20/12/2018 21:51

Sounds like I'll have to overcome my aversion to Strictly if I want the pleasure of more of this company. Sigh.

Calzone · 20/12/2018 22:19

According to my sources....apparently the judges taste a lot of the food as it’s being cooked so a hot sauce will be hot when they try it. They walk around with spoons.

Obviously the food goes cold for when they actually try it.

Hofuckingho · 20/12/2018 22:44

So happy that Larry won. We’ve been routing for him from his very first appearance. What a great final!

lettingthe12daysofXmasgoby · 20/12/2018 22:58

Had to watch a recording, but replayed the thread alongside. Thanks, all, for the added entertainment - and I'm pleased Larry won.

See you next week!

Bloomini · 20/12/2018 23:17

Why all the nasty comments about their appearances? I feel sorry for Dean and anyone who knows him that may end up reading this thread.

Taffeta · 21/12/2018 06:49

I’m wondering two things:

  • how long do they get to prep between eps?
  • assume the ideas for the dishes aren’t entirely their own? Or are they? Do the ones that work with top chefs get their input to recipes I wonder?

I’m wondering if that’s why it’s not all about what they do in the MC kitchen - they test them with invention tests and real life kitchen stuff too? Or is that all the final is about?

[overinvested,still]

Hofuckingho · 21/12/2018 08:13

@Bloomini

Well said. There’s some very unnecessary comments on this thread.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 21/12/2018 11:54

I think we have to remember all comments relate solely to his on screen appearance and as we know, telly is not kind. Almost certainly IRL he is
Slimmer
Taller
Probably less shiny
Utterly charming
That’s how I’m choosing to picture him anyway.

Westwing1 · 21/12/2018 12:18

I had no problem with Dean or his appearance but did find the thread comments funny. I think Dean has not had it easy, grafted and carved a career for himself. My teenage son who normally likes everyone did find him a bit cocky. I thought Dean always looked super clean (important in a Chef) and though Larry seemed lovely he did prespire into every dish he cooked which would genuinely put me off eating his food. Is this just me? Admittedly Dean also prespired into his final dish but that was unusual for him. I know people can't help perspiring but wearing a bandana to soak it up is preferable to it dripping onto the food. Foraging Oli seemed very genuine and passionate about his style of cooking, once fabulous Mathew went I was routing for Oli. Great competition, amazing cooking but I have developed a deep loathing for Marcus so not sure if I will watch again.

Joinourclub · 21/12/2018 13:24

I agree bloomin. And when I said as much up thread I was told that slagging the contestants off is the whole point of the thread and that if I didn’t like it it wasn’t the place for me.

I find it weird that people get such pleasure from slagging off ordinary blokes. It’s one thing criticising their cooking or behaviour, but repeated comments about their appearance and comments like ‘He's beating off his micro-peen behind the hot plate’ are just unnecessarily mean. Again, they aren’t ‘slebs’ just ordinary people are there is a high chance that they and their wives and mums could read this. All this congratulating each other on your hilarious and witty jibes is just sad.

Taffeta · 21/12/2018 13:49

Now you see I’m laughing again at ‘He's beating off his micro-peen behind the hot plate’

GrinGrinGrin

They have decided to go on telly. Therefore are fair game. It’s not hidden camera stuff - it goes with the territory.

Much of what was said about Chucky was retracted once they gave his background at the beginning of the final ep.

Hofuckingho · 21/12/2018 13:59

I just hope that none of his friends or family are on this thread.

Bloomini · 21/12/2018 14:52

Being on a cooking competition on TV doesn't make you fair game for the very nasty comments about his appearance.

There's a pack mentality on this thread and I bet none of you criticising his looks would dare post a pic of yourselves to be judged. Are you all stunningly beautiful?

Funny how things changed when you heard he had two mothers. I hope they're not reading this thread. His fiancé recently gave birth and could be a mumsnetter.

He's taken a battering for his looks and demeanour on Twitter too. Poor lad.

Very poor taste (ha!) shame on you masterchef thread. You could just stick to criticism of the food but no, that's not enough. It's pathetic behaviour.
