Glitterball Shiny new thread.

The winner should be chosen by the judges not the public

Then there would be no point anyone other than someone with vast amounts of dance experience entering. How dull.

TofuPanda · 11/12/2018 20:14

Surely the phone calls are also a revenue stream for the BBC as well. If I voted during the season, and then couldn't vote in the final then it would seem pointless. Part of Strictly is feeling like you can make a difference to the outcome.

Binglebong · 11/12/2018 20:42

Phone calls used to be used for Children in Need. Then there was the big ITV voting scandal and in responses phone calls for BBC are now done at cost. Apparently it costs a lot!

TofuPanda · 11/12/2018 21:08

Oh yes, binglebong I remember that hoohah, I knew it was for competitions, but that makes sense it's for phone lines too.

Oh dear Lord Misltetoe, I don't hate that, and I really, really should! Is this a mid-life crisis?

DeepanKrispanEven · 12/12/2018 02:15

I know Ashley is the best dancer, from the flick of her finger to the point of her toe and people would be very blind not to see that

Actually I think Faye is a better dancer, because she has the warmth that Ashley lacks.

I feel sorry for Ashley having to perform in the final knowing she wont win.It is the producers' fault they must have known that the GBP wouldn't vote for her

Numerous people have been in that position over the years, e.g Denise van Outen, Alexandra Burke, Natalie Gumede. Her agents must have been well aware of the situation and must have advised her.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/12/2018 06:54

Oh, I agree. Ashley is technically very accomplished but there is something emotional in Faye's dances that can't be taught but has to be felt. I also think that she and Giovanni have better chemistry than Ashley and Pasha, but then Giovanni does seem particularly skilled at creating that with his partners (apart from the entirely forgettable Laura Whatshername).

derxa · 12/12/2018 08:05

I think Faye is coming up on the rails. I've warmed to her over Stacey.
Joe makes me feel a bit ill.

ppeatfruit · 12/12/2018 08:25

I think it was Craig (or poss. Bruno) who said that he thought that Ash is a good Jazz dancer but she makes ALL her dances seem like jazz dancing. I agree with that, but I was impressed with their American Smooth, I liked the bit of tap they did on the car and floor!!! It should've gone on for longer Grin

Faye is good but seems a bit too tall for Joe Varney esp in their AT , his dancing is becoming better and better, quite extraordinary!!!!

ppeatfruit · 12/12/2018 08:29

I love Stacey's full on personality, there's no 'side' to her. She loving the dancing and shows it.

Kevin is good with her I just hope he doesn't over do their showdance.

SarfE4sticated · 12/12/2018 10:03

Are we going to be in the position of Joe winning, even though he is a terrible dancer in comparison to the others? Is there a mechanism that the judges can stop him?

I don't have anything against him per se, he just isn't as good.

GodrestyemerrySchadenfreud · 12/12/2018 10:24

(apart from the entirely forgettable Laura Whatshername)

Sorry - who?

Grin
ppeatfruit · 12/12/2018 10:28

sarf Well it happened last year IMO. there were 3 very good female contestants and 1 male BUT the male - Joe Mcfadden won, who was an OK dancer, nothing special, his partner Katya was manic a livewire who pushed him a bit beyond his abilities

MistletoeMagnet · 12/12/2018 11:09

are we going to be in the position of Joe winning, even though he is a terrible dancer in comparison to the others?

That depends on whether the Joeggernaut of fans multiple vote. It is a myth that overseas fans can, without a lot of time and expense to find a vpn that works.
I watched 24 mins of Joe on the journey vids the beeb put up...compilations of all the dances and I enjoyed his a lot.
I will be fine with any of them winning. They all had different starting points. I will probably root for whoever does the freestyle that appeals to me the most.

DarlingNikita · 12/12/2018 12:23

Is there a mechanism that the judges can stop him?

No, it's all down to the audience vote. The judges still comment and score but their scores don't count.

Joe last year wasn't a great dancer, but he was better than Joe this year. It'll be a genuine travesty if he wins.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 12/12/2018 12:39

Didn't know AJ was on BGT:

HouseworkIsASin10 · 12/12/2018 12:53

Love this as well Darcey and Ian.

billysboy · 12/12/2018 16:28

I hope Joe or Stacey win then perhaps there will be no ringers next year

Lottapianos · 12/12/2018 16:45

Housework, I will never ever tire of watching Darcey and Ian's dances on YouTube. Pure magic. I wish they did one every year

CaptainBrickbeard · 12/12/2018 16:48

billysboy, why on earth would the producers not put ringers in next year if a non-ringer wins? Are you not getting that they don’t really care who wins so long as there is enough controversy, story and interest generated throughout the season? I’ve said it over and over: producers like ringers because they do amazing dances that people watch for years after which contributes to the legitimacy and credibility of the show PLUS people don’t like them so they complain which means lots of debate and conversations take place which also generates interest in the show. They like a mix of comedy contestants, good journey contestants, skilled dancer contestants and characters who will keep the show interesting. Neither the judges not producers are genuinely tearing their hair out because Ashley won’t win - Ashley has been amazing for the show precisely because she’s annoyed so many people! FFS!! I honestly don’t know why anyone would think it was in the show’s interest to have no bloody ringers! If you really don’t like ringers, it isn’t the show for you!!! There will always be ringers! Stop complaining about them!!!!

starkid · 12/12/2018 17:02

Calm down mate

CaptainBrickbeard · 12/12/2018 17:08

Sorry, got a bit over invested Blush. It’s just you might as well complain about sequins or fake tan as ringers! There is no point, yet people go on about it constantly and I can’t fathom it out.

DarlingNikita · 12/12/2018 17:13

Captain, people go on about it because it can be frustrating and irritating to watch people who are clearly trained and experienced, up against those without those advantages but who are trying their hearts out.

I also find it offensive when a ringer ends up in the DO and the judges strop and pontificate and start with 'I can't believe you're here'/'I don't understand it' and other hardly veiled pops at the voting audience for voting for their favourites, despite that being exactly what we're invited to do.

I do agree with your reasons as to why the producers keep putting them in.

starkid · 12/12/2018 17:14

Haha I agree to be fair, I've had to ignore a lot of the complaints. But then we're all complaining on here about this-and-that because we're all so invested in it, especially with the final so close (seriously, not sure what I'm going to do with myself after Saturday...)
