Apologies if a duplicate

And we're back

MY APOLOGIES

Matt Di Angelo lost to Alesha and rightly so

Who remembers when he walked off the floor and sat down during the dance because he lost his steps and then got through purely on sympathy?

THOSE WERE THE SALAD DAYS OF THIS SHOW GrinBlushHmmWink

I'd love to know the results of the public vote, even if it was just the ordering (not necessarily the total votes, although that would be even better). I think it would make people more likely to vote too.

FuzzyCustard · 02/12/2018 21:10

I remember that Pawnee. I watch SCD in the hopes that it might happen again especially to my least favourites

FuzzyCustard · 02/12/2018 21:11

Obviously not the "getting through" bit.

PawneeParksDept · 02/12/2018 21:15

Another classic was when Ian fell over in him and Zoe's showdance

Sometimes it's at it's ludicrous finest when it all goes wrong

My favourite ITT moment ever was Craig and Brendan rowing over whether Craig favoured Emma Bunton. (True) I truly thought they would start slapping each other. Intense drama.

I think Ashley was crying real tears when she found out she was in the DO again, it must be hard if you have her background and gee-whizz positivity and can’t understand why the public of a differently-wired country aren’t voting for you.

I voted for Lauren. So I think that’s three of us here?!

PawneeParksDept · 02/12/2018 21:17

There were also the SCANDALS

The time Sarah Manners CRIED on a camera confessional because Brendan just wouldn't accept she wasn't Natasha

The time James threw a chair and called Georgina Bouzova fat for eating a bag of Malteasers

OP posts:
shutlingsloe · 02/12/2018 21:17

I voted for Lauren too.

Milly848 · 02/12/2018 21:18

That Matt di Angelo dance....I'm shocked he still got 8s from Len and Bruno!

PawneeParksDept · 02/12/2018 21:21

Really bad.

OP posts:
Milly848 · 02/12/2018 21:23

Imagine if these arguments happened today, it would be headline news!

PawneeParksDept · 02/12/2018 21:29

The way both Arlene and Len spoke to Kelly was quite horrific actually exceptionally rude

Just bookmarking thread!

Felt so sorry for Ashley tonight.

What dances have they all got left? Will Faye and Ashley both do an Argentine Tango? Does Ashley still have a paso to do? Will Lauren and AJ have to rumba? I can’t see Joe pulling off a rumba; he needs ballroom. We know Stacey has a Charleston but I’m wondering what else.

I think two dances will be tough on Lauren. I think she will struggle.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/12/2018 21:33

called Georgina Bouzova fat for eating a bag of Malteasers

ONE bag?

Pffft!

Lightweight!

mydogisthebest · 02/12/2018 21:33

I voted for Lauren too (and Charles)

dontcallmelen · 02/12/2018 21:34

Oh Lord I remember that Pawnee it’s such a wtf moment when Matt just went & sat down, yy with Kelly her dad was very ill at the time as well shocking.

Milly848 · 02/12/2018 21:36

Yes, Arlene could be very bitchy and Len could be nasty as well. Craig's always been known as the nasty one but he's on the whole very fair with his criticism and he doesn't get personal about things.

Here are the dances left:

Ashley & Pasha - American Smooth, Argentine Tango or Waltz / Paso Doble
Faye & Giovanni - American Smooth or Argentine Tango, Salsa or Samba
Joe & Dianne - Argentine Tango, Tango or Viennese Waltz / Rumba
Lauren & AJ - Foxtrot or Tango / Rumba or Samba
Stacey & Kevin - Argentine Tango or Viennese Waltz / Charleston or Rumba

Ooh loving these blasts from the past!

Smug Chambers' series was my introduction to Strictly. I loved his and Camilla's partnership from the first episode of thay series (may have also crushed a bit on Smuggo back then Blush) Also his cameraderie with Austin. I hope that wasn't contrived!
I understood he had some light stage school dance experience - how naive I was Grin

Does anyone remember how his whole Strictly journey was about getting married GrinGrin
I found it funny at the time but I'd probably find it unbearable now Wink

Kicking myself that I didn't watch from series 3 (and 4). My work colleagues at the time talked about it incessantly and I thought it sounded ridiculous. I didn't realise the professional dancers were so mesmerising gah.

Encyclo I'd LOVE to see Joe in a DO with Faye/Ashley/Stacey. Or Stacey against Faye/Ashley. The judges might implode. They'd be twisting themselves in knots trying to justify their decision, especially if Faye/Ashley danced an obvious blinder.

I quite like AJ. It's nice to showcase some fresh dance talent from the UK. I thought he was about 22 max Smile
The problem is they can't exactly give him an older lady partner, it would look a bit wrong (I say that as a middle-aged woman!). Hence he's had a run of good/Olympic partners which seems a bit unfair on the other pros. Usually everyone takes their turn with the duffers and older contestants (with the exception of golden boy KFG, Susan C excepted - even so she was popular in the comedy contestant vein).

I really hated AJ's partnership with Mollie. I actually thought she was 30-34. She always looked like she was dancing with a teenager despite not being that old herself! Has she done that showbiz thing of knocking a couple of years off her real age Wink
I just didn't feel much connection between them and the tabloid stories were so awkward.

RosemaryHoight · 02/12/2018 21:46

I felt really sorry for Ashley and Charles.

I always get like that at this stage where I feel sorry for them that they don't get enough votes.

I just love it all, the whole thing.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 02/12/2018 21:51

Found you!

I asked on the last thread about professionals leading the group dances. Last nights had the celebrities in - so it can't have been recorded in June? Yes the main dancers are all in the competition still.

Also don't understand why they employ more random extra dancers when they have all of the pros without celebs now!!

PancakeMum6 · 02/12/2018 21:55

Didn’t realise there was a SCD thread on here! How exciting.

I agree with most that Joe is consistently overnarked, and I think Stacey often is too (she certainly was last night - didn’t see much dance content there). It frustrates me when the judges pin a higher value on emotion over technique - surely technique should be learnt and perfected first? I understand its importance but in a learn to dance competition I feel the focus should be on learning the steps first, and then learning how to emote second.

Charles’s marks seem to vary for me in terms of being harsh/generous but I was sad to see him go this week, though I’m in the minority of finding his rumba slightly dull.

Watching Ashley and Faye just feels predictable - it was nice to have strong performances the first few weeks but it’s not longer exciting when they get 10s. Also grates on me when the judges act like they’re shocked at the performance knowing full well they were both full trained pros!

And our family is voting for Lauren - my 7yo DD has a similar (possibly the same? I’m not sure what it is Lauren has but her arm looks almost exactly like DD’s) condition. I think people aren’t giving enough consideration to the impact it has - it hugely affects balance, which is vital in dance and has a knock on effect on confidence etc. I think she had a bad two weeks due to a confidence knock after the Argentine Tango (which I think was criminally undermarked), but has generally seen huge improvement. Really enjoy watching her Smile

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 02/12/2018 21:57

I feel like I'm going ro get slated for my AJ comments. I'm sure he'd be fine with an older partner, I'm probably just too used to him having younger celebs. He perennially looks 18-20 to me Smile

Does anyone remember Louis Smith's series with Flavia? He seems to get forgotten when recounting past winners. I wasn't that keen on his dances, he always seemed competent but lacking passion. I might have to go back and check out some of his routines.

I love hearing about all these old spats and the Strictly "salad days". Simpler times!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 02/12/2018 21:59

I voted for Lauren as I felt unmoved by the others this week. Stacey was good but I found it OTT.

ThursdayLastWeek · 02/12/2018 22:01

Marking my place on the lovely new thread Smile

Sorry I don’t have much to add as watched the show whilst cooking this morning (shock horror social life last night Shock) and skipped the results show altogether.

I'm sorry that Charles and Karen have gone out, but I think it was their time really.

I didn’t really enjoy the extra dancers last night - they’re ok at Blackpool but there didn’t seem to be room for them all in the studio.

I also noted Darceys 'Oh my goodness, yes I said Oh My Goodness' Grin

None of the musicals featured last night were ones I’ve even watched, let alone have any affection for! What a heathen I am!
