Although I can't think about January yet...

I'm still in denial it's nearly December- which means ds will be 16 , and I will be 47 and another year will be over.

Oh- Thiem is talking in his press conference.

The Paire match went on for so long the other day- it might have taken a lot out of him, it ended very late.

I think Thiem said he had a virus or something...

PrivateParkin · 17/01/2019 12:24

Kazza I keep thinking of Andy's retirement and feeling upset all over again. They played a clip on the radio earlier of when he carried the GB flag at the Rio Olympics, and he said it was "the No1 moment" of his career. I remember staying up to watch it, it was great. It made me v emotional hearing about it again. He's going to leave a big gap. Sad Unless he has this miraculous Bob Bryan surgery and returns to the tour, of course!....

mama1980 · 17/01/2019 12:30

private yep would definitely say sascha will win from here but it's been a interesting match.....having said that he might be about to lose the 4th here......
I switched to watch Tsonga but the first set was fairly dull so have switched back.

mama1980 · 17/01/2019 12:32

Commentators have been saying the Thiem retirement wasn't great sportsmanship as he could have played on, he just didn't feel great and didn't want to. Hard to judge without knowing exactly what was wrong but I see little point in continuing if you risk making things worse and cannot win.

mama1980 · 17/01/2019 12:35

Tiebreak.
I'd like to see sascha win, (though chardy deserves it probably based on this performance) simply because I think zverev is one of the few players who could stop either Roger or Novak.

JaneJeffer · 17/01/2019 12:39

I'm not getting to see much this morning. DS2 has no school today so he's playing Fifa.

Raah I think John asking about the bottles is because he's very superstitious himself. He wouldn't step on the tram lines when he played.

JaneJeffer · 17/01/2019 12:40

mama those commentators are ridiculous. How do they know how he feels?!

PrivateParkin · 17/01/2019 12:41

Chardy is just not backing down is he? He probably could have taken one of those set points when Zverev was serving though.

I know what you mean though mama - Zverev could be a threat to Djok and co - he probably plays better in those matches than he does against lower ranked players!

kazzaD66 · 17/01/2019 12:42

It is ridiculous that the Aussie is getting like the US Open with regard to late matches. Do they have a separate evening session aswell? How many courts are covered / can deal with night matches? How many spectators are left in the early hours of the morning, plus the poor staff who probably have to be there until the last member of the public has left!
The latest I have been at Wimbledon is about 9.30pm and then it's a bit of a trek back down to Hampshire. When I used to go to the veterans at the RAH, I think we've been there until after midnight once or twice (used to have 2 singles and 1 doubles a session back then) and I used to feel sorry for those that had to leave to get trains etc. We always used to stay in a nearby hotel for the night so that we could stay until the end Smile

PrivateParkin · 17/01/2019 12:44

Well well well Grin

mama1980 · 17/01/2019 12:45

And we're going to a fifth.....
I agree jane thought it was a mean thing to suggest, he really was looking a little green in that press conference.

mama1980 · 17/01/2019 12:45

Just adding my yep the scheduling is mad, Konta at this rate could not even start for another 60-90 mins!

PrivateParkin · 17/01/2019 12:48

Kazza yep it's ridiculous. Must be so annoying for the people who work there. Are they still planning to play the muguruza match tonight?! Confused

We stayed until 11pm at Wimbledon last year, luckily we were being picked up though otherwise we'd have definitely had leave before the end. We said this year we're going to book a hotel though, just more relaxing hopefully!

PrivateParkin · 17/01/2019 12:50

Re those commentators/Thiem - that's awful. You'd think they'd steer clear of that sort of thing after the Washington tournament director made those comments about Murray last year - remember she said he should set an example and try harder to play or something?! Hmm Nobody else knows what's really going on with a player, do they? So why don't they just keep quiet!

PrivateParkin · 17/01/2019 13:09

Chardy looks cooked. It's a shame, great effort.

Raahh · 17/01/2019 13:10

Just had to walk the dog.

See Sascha is running away with the 5th, but I bet he wasn't expecting to have to go this far.

The comments about Thiem were un called for.

Mac (again) made some stupid comments after Rafa had treatment during the Cilic match last year (that he had to retire from) - apparently, if you prod someone hard enough, of course it's going to hurt , was the gist of it Hmm. He was basically making out Rafa's groin/ thigh pain wasn't really that big a deal, and he was using the time out for his own advantage.

OP posts:
Raahh · 17/01/2019 13:12

Found Mac's comment.

'"I'm sure any spot in a tennis player's body, if you press hard enough it'd hurt.'

O.k, Mac. Maybe we'll try it on you. Grin

Crap, come on Jo Willy!

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 17/01/2019 13:18

The commentator just said Zverev will be asking why it took him so long to win that match, but that wasn't about Sascha being rubbish, it was Chardy giving it everything! Rude!!

Lol at Doctor Mac Grin

Raahh · 17/01/2019 13:18

I feel very sorry for Garbine and Jo , having to wait to play.

I want Garbine to win, have never been much of a Jo fan (sorry).
The timing is not really fair on whoever wins, so I hope it's quick!

PrivateParkin · 17/01/2019 13:34

Novak seems to be wearing some weird string around his neck?...

(Possibly a guru thing?!)

mama1980 · 17/01/2019 13:35

Tsonga looks done here sadly.

Raahh · 17/01/2019 13:37

Poor Jo Willy.

OP posts:
Raahh · 17/01/2019 13:42

Ugh.

The commentators don't think Novak looked that convincing- maybe Shaggy can give him a better match?
