Ds 3.5 tells me he likes it - he can see it on the mumsnett page - he can name all the characters.
I was a bit shocked, becasue I didn't realise that he had watched it
So I sat down to watch it myslef.
What a load of tosh.
And I hate these programmes where they don't speak properly = like telletubies - I think it is wrong - mind you buttton moon and the clangers were the same.
I think I should ban all tv programmes that are really bad.
When I kind of insinuated this to ds he went mad - telling me how much he loved it.

AIBU ?

Yes, it's bloody fab and it's narrated by Derek Jacobi - who speaks very properly indeed - and after you've watched a few episodes you'll be absolutely bloody riveted by it, although you may find yourself singing the Upsy Daisy song at inappropriate moments.

Mind you I think the Clangers was bloody fab too.

motherinferior · 21/06/2007 16:11

I meant yes YABU, not yes ban it.

Aloha · 21/06/2007 16:13

Do you know the teletubbies is written by experts in child development and linguistics? It is not 'bad' speech.
I think the Night Garden is very charming.

Steward · 21/06/2007 16:13

The programme is the new teletubbies and both made by the same people. My DD likes it but havn't watched for abit. We are more into Lazytwn in this household. I don't see the sense of it either, but luckly do no have to put up with it much.

sockmonkey · 21/06/2007 16:14

Mine both LOVE it, and it really calms them down before bedtime. First time I watched it I thought it was just a teletubbies re-hash, but it really has grown on me. Give it time Oblomov, you will grow to love it

Oblomov · 21/06/2007 16:14

Why is it acceptable MI ?
With characters called tomliboos.......???

OP posts:
Aloha · 21/06/2007 16:15

What's wrong with Tomliboos?

Curmudgeonlett · 21/06/2007 16:16

I rather like In the Night Garden .. I love the appalling names

Now Wonderpets .. there's a programme that needs banning .. this is sewious

motherinferior · 21/06/2007 16:16

I rather insist we watch it, actually.

bobsmum · 21/06/2007 16:16

We love it in our household.

But then we love the Clangers here too and other Oliver Postgate stuff - v political and progressive when you watch it now.

It's great to have something which is so innocent and just fun and playful.

Ds is 4 and has taught himself the theme tune and the Tittyfurs' song (which I think is underneath the them song IYSWIM?) on the piano much to dd's (2) delight.

Fab programme IMO.

Mercy · 21/06/2007 16:17

My two love it.

Both have grown up watching Teletubbies and it hasn't affected their speech or anything else. Is that what concerns you?

tiredemma · 21/06/2007 16:17

it is SOOO not rubbish!

bundle · 21/06/2007 16:17

i keep missing it

SpawnChorus · 21/06/2007 16:17

Yes my name is Iggle Piggle...

[reverie]

NoBiggy · 21/06/2007 16:18

Night Garden and Wonderpets, those are 2 of my favourites. Now, Max and Ruby, there's nothing right about that.

sockmonkey · 21/06/2007 16:18

I actually say come on ninky-nonk, come on pinky-ponk it's time for bed to my DSs
It is nonsense, and looking at the books you are reading, I'm not surprised you find the dialogue a bit ....erm... ridiculous, but it's aimed at little children I suppose.

motherinferior · 21/06/2007 16:19

I have considered recording it, Bundle

My very straight dad got addicted to the Magic Roundabout when I was a child.

I am amazed you haven't seen it before, given you supposedly live in your dressing gown and never get off the sofa Oblomov
In the Night Garden is gorgeous, mad and charming, just like all the UK's best children's programmes. Give it a week and you too will be beguiled I promise

Oblomov · 21/06/2007 16:21

No, No I mean I used to love the clangers and bagpus mice - we will wash you - So its a bit much for me to think that today's programmes won't have these wierd speech bits.

SockPuppetOfDoom · 21/06/2007 16:22

YABU.

Well, Upsy-Daisy needs to take a long, hard look at herself, but apart from that it's delightful.

If you want to whinge about shite kid's tv where the characters don't speak properly, look no further than the frickin' Tweenies. Now they really do make me have Bad Thoughts.

Marina · 21/06/2007 16:22

You will need to snip the plug off your telly before your ds finds out about Yu-Gi-Oh, Dick and Dom or Stupid, that's for sure Oblomov. Compared to that lot, ITNG is even more attractive

Oblomov · 21/06/2007 16:23

Now now Marina, I do get off the settee to put on another dvd and order myself another take away

Oblomov · 21/06/2007 16:23

O.K. maybe IABU. I will watch it again.
