Ds 3.5 tells me he likes it - he can see it on the mumsnett page - he can name all the characters.
I was a bit shocked, becasue I didn't realise that he had watched it
So I sat down to watch it myslef.
What a load of tosh.
And I hate these programmes where they don't speak properly = like telletubies - I think it is wrong - mind you buttton moon and the clangers were the same.
I think I should ban all tv programmes that are really bad.
When I kind of insinuated this to ds he went mad - telling me how much he loved it.

AIBU ?

I can't believe I missed the little blue family! I have been really looking forward to seeing who they are.

Marina · 28/06/2007 16:19

They are very similar to the Pontipines Sockmonkey
Dd and I are currently doing all the different dances in the bandstand [mwah! emoticon]

motherinferior · 28/06/2007 16:25

But surely MackaPacka is secure in the love that all the watchers feel? The Inferiorettes absolutely adore him.

I don't give a flying fandango about instruction/education and telly, btw. It's a charming chill-out, and I like it.

(And I am a really quite bright 44 year old.)

motherinferior · 28/06/2007 16:44

Also I do actually think that it is educative to learn about fiction and fantasy and narrative. Admittedly that could lead one to end up doing a couple of English degrees like me, but I am quite solvent.

I have to say I am a little worried,
Firstly, opinion is definately divided in my house as DH can't stand it but sees how DD sits calmly and watches it before bed so will suffer through it, she does sometimes cry at the end but accepts it is over which is also learning patience.

What I am worried about is that on Tuesday with the Wottingers DD completely lost interest for the first time and didn't want to watch until they started to dance at the end!

You lot (especially Dinosaur) have convinced me to give the Night Garden another chance

It's not that I want DS to be educated by the telly - I am just wary because of DS specific speech problems.

My dd moved her finger around my pregnant belly today at the beginning of the programme, so sweet, she wanted the baby to join in! She is a very articulate 22 month old and I don't think ITNG is doing her any harm at all. She thinks most other tv is a waste of time, but really engages with this - fine by me, most of cbeebies drives me mad so I'm quite glad we don't have to have it on here! We all sit down as a family for this programme, we share it and talk about what the characters are doing, which is what we should be doing anyway isn't it? She will now tell us when Upsy Daisy and Iggle Piggle kiss for instance, and she understands that they all have to go to bed, just like she does.

However, if her favourite character doesn't make an appearance she can be a bit cross - where was Macca Pacca tonight?!

TLV · 03/07/2007 14:35

we all love ITNG in my household, we recently got sky+ so i've captured a few episodes for emergencies and I've already pre-ordered the ninky nonk and iggle piggle/upsy daisy from hamleys. The music is so lovely and when the beginning of it starts my dd face lights up (she is 2 btw) and I just want to cuddle and squeeze her

have to admit was not keen on it when it firt started but i'm sooooo hooked now and it may seem a load of tosh to some adults but then it wasn't made with adults in mind was it....

keisha · 12/09/2007 22:08

my 18 month old daughter loves it i heard it was the big thing this christmas

foxinsocks · 12/09/2007 22:11

Ds (who is going to be six at the end of this year!) chose a singing Iggle Piggle as a present (snigger). He loves the blasted thing!

foxinsocks · 12/09/2007 22:12

my name is iggle piiiiiiiiigle
iggle piggle iggle piggle poo

(well that's what it sounds like)

keisha · 12/09/2007 22:30

if its right thats itng is going to be big for christmas we all best get down the shops

LadyOfTheFlowers · 12/09/2007 22:33

I thought ITNG was a lovely program and the only one that keeps them both interested till the end.
Ds1 watches at all the way through, pretty much and Ds2 loves the music.

I feel it is a nice, imaginative pretty harmless program.
Nice to see something fantasy I thought.

Plus, Makka Pakka is cute - Ds2 loves him! lol

keisha · 12/09/2007 22:36

yes i thought the same

LadyOfTheFlowers · 12/09/2007 22:45

Excuse me, what time is it on now?
We were watching it in the mornings but it appears to have gone?
Tell me when it's on pleeeease!

morn and evening!
(I might get 2 cups of tea in 1 day!)

keisha · 12/09/2007 22:47

evenings 6:20

pooka · 12/09/2007 22:59

I think it's great. DD is 4 and ds is 2 and they both really enjoy watching it, and I just think it is fantastically well made. Like the sounds and the music, and is so calming and has a soporific element, with iggle piggle in the boat at the end and lovely Derek Jacobi.

So since I'm such a fan, I think YABU

Flibbertyjibbet · 12/09/2007 23:04

We love it. We all laugh out loud when the tombliboos trousers fall down. We do the songs and actions.
And I've made DS1 a child sized iggle piggle red blanket which he adores and flaps about like iggle piggle does with his own...
Sunday we went for a walk and we could see people walking up a neighbouring hill, tiny little people outlined against the sky. Ds1 said 'look mummy, blue pontypines' !!! Moments like that make me so happy to be a mummy.

Flibbertyjibbet · 12/09/2007 23:05

Oh and we print ITNG colouring sheets and activity things from the ITNG website. Thats where I got all the words for the songs so I sound v impressive knowing all the words

keisha · 13/09/2007 19:29

watched it tonight its brill

mumclaire · 13/09/2007 20:37

DD has just got into itng and absolutely loves it - she does the dance at the end and points at upsy daisy saying daisy...

Dh and I enjoy making up stories about all the characters -
Makka pakka is in fact an ewok who has evolved - come down from the trees to live in a cave - has developed OCD (hence the constant washing) and shaved off all his fur..
Iggle piggle has yet to come out of the closet (clearly gay from his dancing at the end and over dramatic reaction to things) tries to convince everyone (unsuccessfully)that he is straight by snogging upsy daisy.
Upsy daisy has a pinky ponk juice problem hence the repetition of her name and off key singing...
Any other theories are welcome...

mabelmurple · 13/09/2007 20:58

DD loves this programme, and she is 7 - the end music makes me want to cry, too . It is a beautiful, gentle programme where 'fashion', 'celebrity' and 'cool' have absolutely no place whatsoever.

DaisyMOO · 13/09/2007 20:59

Best children's program I've seen in a long long time. Ds1 who is 7 probably likes it as much as ds3 who is 1! Love it love it
