Ds 3.5 tells me he likes it - he can see it on the mumsnett page - he can name all the characters.
I was a bit shocked, becasue I didn't realise that he had watched it
So I sat down to watch it myslef.
What a load of tosh.
And I hate these programmes where they don't speak properly = like telletubies - I think it is wrong - mind you buttton moon and the clangers were the same.
I think I should ban all tv programmes that are really bad.
When I kind of insinuated this to ds he went mad - telling me how much he loved it.

AIBU ?

i love it, you are not just being unreasonable, you are also wrong

jeangenie · 21/06/2007 21:28

ncely recounted TootyFrooty, thanks. I wish I worked with your DH, I'd have given him the secret ITNG freemasons sign accross the table for that. I have decided to attempt to enliven my day tomorrow by adopting the same challenge in my dull and dreary office where I will be attending a number of Meetings of Medium to Little Importance

MamaMaiasaura · 21/06/2007 21:32

It is a load of bollox. Unfortunately my ds7 now likes it [grrrr]. I wont ban it tho as I feel a tad mean. He doesnt watch it everynight thank goodness and he doesnt ask to to watch much.

Really really hate tho, I think perhaps ds watches it to taunt me

Dont think you should ban it for your dc as it is aimed at them I guess. I like eastenders which is shockingly embarassing [hangs head in shame] and would be very upset if i was banned from that.

tribpot · 21/06/2007 21:34

I think it's great. Insane, but great. And very relaxing. Derek Jacobi can come and read me a story any time he likes

mummytosteven · 21/06/2007 21:37

YANBU. I feel exactly the same! but interesting post Dino, I'ld taken the view that anything full of makka pakka and not proper words would not be good for speech delay/echolalia, maybe I am being unfair. Food for thought there. And I agree that Teletubbies were quite good for DS speech - he learnt weather words and colours of the rainbow from TTS.

MerryMarigold · 21/06/2007 21:41

Oblomov, I am SHOCKED! You are definitely being very unreasonable. It's just a bit of light entertainment. If he watched night garden all day, every day, perhaps you would have a point. But really, if it makes him so happy and it is ENTIRELY harmless, then why ban it? Personally, I love it, and talk to ds in that sort of language most of the day anyway...never mind, he'll have plenty of time to get serious when he starts school. Before that it's fun, fun, fun in our house.

My 1 year old ds saw it for the first time tonight and he was chuckling away to himself. It was a very sweet sight

ediemay · 21/06/2007 23:00

LOVE IT!!!!

OFSTEDoutstanding · 21/06/2007 23:07

Isn't that a pip is my favourite line of the whole show my ds (21months) sits rivetted to thew screen until it is said and then collapses laughing saying pip pip pip! We watch ITNG every day and it is on sky + so we can watch it at weekends

BecauseImWorthIt · 21/06/2007 23:36

Am about to do some more research for the BBC on this - will have to contact MNHQ for their help - but if any of you would like to take part ......

Shall be in touch with Carrie tomorrow!

stressteddy · 21/06/2007 23:38

I love it. It's the best prog on cbeebies at the mo. It's all so lovely and dreamy
Even the beginning when they are stroking the child's hand
It's yum

Blu · 21/06/2007 23:46

It's brilliant!
Poetic, arty, charming...I love it that children are beguiled into waiting for things and watching slowness and stillness. Actually, i htnk that far from teaching them bad English it is likely to have a positive effect on thier ability to appreciate art.

So out that in the new MN pseuds corner and smoke it!

But I really do.

Beauregard · 21/06/2007 23:58

I find the music rather soothing.

Beauregard · 22/06/2007 00:03

nana nana nana nana nananananannnnnnnnnnnnnannna

plummymummy · 22/06/2007 00:04

We all love it in our household

2mum · 22/06/2007 00:44

I love the music also and find it cute too! My kids also like it!

Marina · 22/06/2007 09:16

I am there with you in Pseuds Corner Blu - I think beguiling is exactly the right description for this programme.
There was a near riot of ecstasy in our house when the long-awaited Wottingers appeared. Ds, who likes to deepen his voice and make willy jokes now he is an enormous lad of eight was squeaking "You don't have to e-mail Ragdoll now mum!"

sidge · 22/06/2007 10:59

I love it.

Oh yes and the children do too...

I've never taken drugs but I would imagine if I did I would take a trip to the Night Garden - it's so bizarre and hypnotic. I love the music and find myself humming the tune as I run DDs bath.

Oh god have just re-read what I've written and realised I need to get out more.

I know - I'd been wondering about the blue 'PontyPines' for ages (well, about a month). So glad they made an appearance!

Botbot · 26/06/2007 20:45

Am I the only person who gets a bit tearful at the beginning of In the Night Garden? I find it really moving for some reason. The bit where the stars turn into flowers...

And I'm not a particularly soppy type.

goodmorningday · 26/06/2007 21:03

i think its incredibly sweet. my ds (3) loves this programme. hes fed and bathed and in jammas with his blankent (his pronunciation) when it comes on and we do the little boat on his hand....i only watch the first 5 mins and last 5 so that i can get ds2 (4mths) ready for bed...then upto bed for 10mins of stories...both babies in bed just after 7pm.....he was completely devistated when it wasn't on and asked about it every day without fail until it came back on. i dont find anything wrong with this programme and i think that most thinks are vetted for cbeebies...although when i was pregnant over the winter and a bit ill we watched quite a bit of cbeebies and some of it is aaaaaargh. if my son was really into something and it wasn't too ott i wouldn't ban it

goodmorningday · 26/06/2007 21:07

oooh yes....the first few times i did cry watching the opening titles with my children i though it was incredibly sweet...the look of delight and innocence on his face is really wonderful

Aloha · 26/06/2007 21:07

Did everyone wave to the Wattingers? I hope so.
