Shiny new thread - my apologies to Satsuma for the title, you are the minority!

OP posts:
ButtMuncher · 19/11/2018 19:37

Yes! That's the one! I remember it well, what year did Natalie stop being a pro in Strictly?

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 19/11/2018 19:46

It was Penny Lancaster v Gabby Logan in the dance off

That just reminded me of this:

Stephanie Beacham: "That Gabby creature can get her leg over her head"

Another Stephanie corker, in reference to Kelly Brook's scantily cladness: "if she was my daughter I'd tell get to limit herself to one flash per day, but make it a good one"

Such an old-school diva 😄

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/11/2018 19:50

Oh yes, I remember Stephanie Beacham's commentsGrin, I seem to recall Kelly Brooks' face being a picture after hearing them. Didn't Stephanie say something about legs OR chest NOT both?

Clawdy · 19/11/2018 20:11

Checking in!

OzzyMadBat · 19/11/2018 20:56

Thanks for the new thread - it reminded me of the rather wonderful named poster AnyoneButAndre (waves if they are still here under a name change) in Peter's year...although if I recall he didn't do Baby Warz as much as I had expected that year, given how he really, really, really loves his kids Wink
@satsumaeater and @wowfudge are entitled to their opinion though re Chris...I think Nat in her first year came across as über competitive as Erin did in her early days and Ricky was deemed arrogant (didn't he ask for the voting figures as he couldn't believe the result Grin ) plus the arrest for alleged assault on a photographer possibly didn't help at the time.
x-squared is right though that Chris Hollins came over very well in the pre-season special they had where he took others taking the piss with good grace. Matt made me laugh too (Len had said that sometimes you just have to be content coming 2nd when asked what he could do pre final).
Chris might have gurned for GB but, one lift aside, I didn't like Ricky's freestyle either. I grew to like Nat though. I wonder had she stayed if she would have been given a ringer. She might have had Johnnie given her success with Cassidy. She only won the Oz version once but came 3rd with Tim

(starts 1.47) (Love the music - Tony Beak used it for Ruth last year)

As for this year's cohort, I cannot begrudge Kev or Gio a win after both being the bridesmaid before. Pash I love and he doesn't care about winning, bless. Joe's reaction vids made me warm to him and Chucky is beginning to grow on me, prayer hands an' all. Dr Hamela never forget! I so think Lauren and Graeme are out this and next week but have both had a decent run.
Kate was injured, had done neither jive nor charleston so with a looming Lindyhop twas a mercy killing.

I am more fed up with who was robbed on DWTS.
Straight off the top of my head
James and Sharna

Lindsey and Mark (there's that music again!) and this series Juan Pablo

but it would be dull if we all liked the same people

OzzyMadBat · 19/11/2018 21:04

I forgot Unsteady was used by Peta and Nyle (he's deaf so a blindfold too, why not?!)

Their contempowaft was good though
ThursdayLastWeek · 19/11/2018 21:34

I think Ricky Whittle had a feel of ringer about him. At least that’s what I remember.

ThursdayLastWeek · 19/11/2018 21:36

Oh yes, Pamela and James. She really fucking owned him and made him much more likeable for it. Does anyone else remember when she lost her balance and did mad jazz hands until she steadied herself??

So memorable because Claudia totally lost her shit in ITT laughing with them!

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 19/11/2018 22:36

@IPromiseIWontBeNaughty if you won tickets you can contact them and nominate someone to queue for your ticket to be validated.

You'd still have to return at the entry time, but they appeared to look after the people with disabilities very well. To be honest the staff were lovely and made us all feel special.

They had an easily accessible area too for wheelchairs etc, they also had water available in the studio.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 19/11/2018 22:48

Thank you welsh

everygalaxy · 19/11/2018 23:15

Thanks for the new thread.

I’d forgotten Emma Bunton had ever taken part Confused

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 20/11/2018 00:55

Wasn't Pamela madly in love with James?! I seem to recall him having a deer in the headlights look about him at times Grin I'm sure she blogged or had a column where she wrote about it! She was an excellent contestant.

Does anyone remember James and Cherie's rumba? How is that ten years ago?! Seems like yesterday. I miss the days when pros gave simple choreography but knew how to make it look good. Take note current pros.

Today's dances seem to have everything but the kitchen sink thrown at them. In fact we've probably had one that starts with someone doing the washing up.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 20/11/2018 01:13

Here's a charleston troupe followed by Anton and Erin Smile

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 20/11/2018 01:17

Anton and Flavia, Anton and Vincent and finally Anton and Erin Grin

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 20/11/2018 01:25

I absolutely LOVE this one, it has everything! All.my favourite pros too Star

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 20/11/2018 01:28

Rock quickstep!:

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 20/11/2018 01:35

Seven Nation Army (and something else!) paso:

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 20/11/2018 01:43

Pasha/Katya V & Natalie/Brendan Tango to Adele:

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 20/11/2018 01:47

Pro Charleston. I can take or leave the charleston but I really like this one!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 20/11/2018 02:07

I loved Matt and Aliona together. Their choreo is so innovative.

This one to Muse (with Brendan and Katya) is actually incredible:

What a jive Shock

My ears!!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 20/11/2018 02:26

I don't remember Katya and Artem doing Jay and Aliona's jive Grin

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 20/11/2018 02:32

Introducing Pasha!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 20/11/2018 05:57

Ricky was deemed arrogant (didn't he ask for the voting figures as he couldn't believe the result grin ) plus the arrest for alleged assault on a photographer possibly didn't help at the time

What?

What was this?

How did I miss this? Must have been BIJM (before I Joined Mumsnet) because you lot would have made sure this didn't go unremarked. I was probably still a working girl (no - not like on Prime Suspect, thank you very much!) and only actually watched to programme and not gone online or read anything.

Also- thank you for the vids Gareth

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/strictly-come-dancing-star-ricky-whittle-arrested-over-assault-1829318.html

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1237507/BBC-Strictly-Come-Dancing-vote-figures-released-say-Ricky-Whittle.html

Cannot post Strictly The Best as not available but it was clear from the ITT interview post semi-final* that Chris was aware of his lack of technical ability but the public liked him and Ola's relationship (he got through on a rumba and AT!) and voted en masse for the underdog that year.

*'I cannot believe it. I must admit I do feel a little bit guilty...Brian and Ali were awesome and some people are saying I've taken their place and I do feel a bit guilty...I've got mixed emotions about it right now'

Both him and Ola were surprised but grateful, they had treated both dances as if they were their last and poor Chris also received a ton of hate messages at the time by the sounds of it.

As it was Ali Bastian beat both Chris and Ricky in the Xmas special that year.

Some of the tour results are also interesting for geeks like me for righting wrongs/showing how some dances are more people-pleasing than others.

2010 Austin Healy stormed it
2011 Matt Baker stormed it (Kara only won one)
2014 Natalie G gave Abbey a thrashing
2015 Simon Webbe beat Caroline
2017 Louise and Danny tied (Ore was dancing with Karen)
2018 Susan won overall, Joe was beaten by Debbie/Gemma
