...or will Kim Joy claim the title? Will Rahul nail it with a bake they DO have in India?

It’s anyone’s to lose.

The show was always a feel good show. I often baked something that day (very limited baking) and looked forward to settling down to watch it. I enjoyed seeing people compete in a good natured way and it was usually high praise for the good baking. Now it is too critical and negative.

Spot on Limpy

Found you! I'm looking forward to the final next week but this series has gone by too quickly

derxa · 24/10/2018 21:34

checking in

00100001 · 24/10/2018 21:47

Considers they supposedly psychologically profile the contestants after that bloke chucked his bake in the bin a couple of years ago, you’d have thought Rahul wouldn’t have made it?

He’s (apparently) only there because he was “bullied into it” and has such crippling doubt and zero interpersonal skills or any personality.

Surely, if he wins, he’d actually crumble? Wouldn’t he just have some sort of breakdown from the media attention?

Volant · 25/10/2018 00:52

If I never seen another cutesy animal from Kim Joy again, it won't be a moment too soon.

It's seriously bugging me that C4 are constantly going for ever more obscure products/ baking techniques that no-one's ever heard of. I long for a straightforward Madeira cake or plaited loaf.

GhoulishGremlins · 25/10/2018 00:56

Here you lot are!

LimpyLampy · 25/10/2018 01:14

Whatashower has the pottery programme really been axed? NO!!!!!!! I LOVED it. Say it hasn't been???? Has another channel taken it over? Why oh why would they have taken that off air? It wasn't even on at 'primetime' and it can't have been that expensive to make.

Is the sewing one gone too? I watched that as well but most of that went over my head tbh.

calpop · 25/10/2018 02:11

Criminal. And the sewing one.

sheldontgetimpaledonthegusset · 25/10/2018 02:36

Kim Joy is like your friend at school, who pretended not to have done her homework/have spent very little time on their homework, only to score top marks and sit in the front row beaming. I don't think we are seeing her actual personality on there.

I would have said the exact same about Ruby wallaby Confused

The not giving a fig/good egg/little ole me act isn't washing with me.

Anybody but Roobs for me.

limpy calpop

I loved the allotment/pottery/sewing ones too. Sad

But read on here that Sewing Bee will be back next year. Hoorah! Grin
Now all they've to do is bring back the gardening and pots ones too...

Hintyhinthint BBC.

glamorousgrandmother · 25/10/2018 07:42

Sewing Bee is back. They were asking for contestants on some online sewing groups I'm on.

SchadenfreudeUndeadified · 25/10/2018 07:44

I'm REALLY looking forward to getting the Sewing Bee back!

It was amazing - some of those people were so talented and original. And watching them cut and baste and pattern-match etc was incredibly fascinating - I used to be engrossed.

If I hadn't watched it, I could never have believed that sewing could be so completely absorbing.

VanillaSugary · 25/10/2018 07:46

Morning all!

I think the winner will be chosen because of their physical appeal and the ability to sell cookbooks over the next 24 months.

As some of you know, I am now a GBBO insider (taps nose) and the application form is full of questions about ethnicity, social media profile and any disabilities, plus your own USP and ability to contribute towards lively telly.

On this basis, I think Ruby will win. I'd love it if Kim Joy wins and I'd say "Awww, bless him" if Rahul won - but only because he looks and behaves like my DD's boyfriend (also from another country/culture).

southeastdweller · 25/10/2018 07:51

They psychologically profile contestants? I find that hard to believe but in any case, Rahul isn't on the edge of a breakdown, he's just lacking in confidence and not good with people. And it makes for good TV, hence all the posts about him here.

Volant · 25/10/2018 08:11

I thought the gardening version really didn't work - for obvious reasons the timescale was too long, and a lot of it relied on cooking skills.

I wish there was a way to do a knitting or crochet one, but I fear that watching people spending several hours knitting complex fair isle or aran patterns wouldn't be thought of as great TV ...

GoofyIsACow · 25/10/2018 08:24

Can I join, I can’t believe we are at the final already!

I would have loved Bryony or Dan to win but Ruby is my winner out of those three.

Meet0nTheIedge · 25/10/2018 08:35

May I join too? I was sad to see Bryony go, I had thought she might reach the final, but she somehow lost her form. I think Ruby will win and I feel a bit concerned about Rahul, he seems so uncomfortable now. Paul is being overly harsh, the show feels pressured in a different way to how it used to and its not good. Somehow they don't seem like hugely talented bakers the way they did in previous series, I can't quite put a finger on why but no one has really pulled off a huge, memorable, wow moment.

I am also gutted about the pottery show being axed but agree that the allotment one didn't really work. I'd have loved it to, but too much emphasis on flower arranging and chutney making detracted from the gardening.

ANiceLentilHotpot · 25/10/2018 09:15

De-lurking to say how reading along with your comments on this thread is better than the show itself.

I think Rahul will actually be relieved if he doesn't win, I can't imagine how he'll react if he does. He's very divisive in our house - DD can't stand him and gets very annoyed about his 'doominess'. But DS loves him and spontaneously bursts into chanting 'Rahul for the win' at any opportunity (which obviously winds DD up no end).

So disappointing that the pottery programme won't be back, I loved that. Have you seen adverts for the one called something like Homemade with Steph McGovern? That looks as though it might have a similar feel to the pottery one but isn't a competition. Actually it might just be the music on the advert that makes it feel similar.

Also the Repair Shop was lovely for that cosy watching people make things feeling. It was on too early though so I didn't see much of it, might try to find it on iPlayer.

LittleMissYorkshireLass · 25/10/2018 09:33

I haven't posted on this thread before as I never thought to look for it even though I've been a bake off fan for years Hmm

I have never liked PH and I loved Mary, I didn't really get into it last year when it moved to channel 4.

I love Sandy and Noel though.

To me it's lost what I enjoyed watching about it, I loved the simple home baking and it was more about cakes and scones etc. they just seem to like putting them under pressure now and judging them harshly.

I loved Briony and wanted her to win, so I'm not bothered who wins now out of who's left. It used to inspire me to bake more cakes but now I look and think I wouldn't have a hope trying some of those!

florentina1 · 25/10/2018 09:37

I have not really enjoyed this series. It has.lost the homeliness of previous ones. They are giving the bakers tasks that are more suitable to professionals and far from what most people cook. I think PH thinks he is Alan Sugar. I think Rahul is saved week after week because he is a ratings puller.

The contestants that I did not take to all went in the earlier rounds so I don’t mind who wins now. I really like these last 4.

On another note is anyone watching “The Family Cooking Show” on BBC2”. It is an interesting format and the tasks are more realistic.

TraceyBond · 25/10/2018 09:45

Rahul is really irritating, he should have gone instead of Manon.

I'd love Kim Joy to win but I think it will be Ruby, I'd be happy with her.

I'd quite like Kim Joy to be Prime Minister, the country would be amazing Grin

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 25/10/2018 09:50

Glad you found us Little!

I think you’re expressing what many of us feel. Something has gone very wrong with this series. I want to see beautiful, successful results that make me want to bake, not car crashes.

I’m still a Prue fan but she needs to give PH a slap sometimes.
Metaphorical or actual, either would do.

Your ability to contribute towards lively telly

Well Rahul nailed that one!!!!!!!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 25/10/2018 10:06

Hello newbies! Never too late to join.

the application form is full of questions about ethnicity, social media profile and any disabilities, plus your own USP and ability to contribute towards lively telly.

Hmmph. Somebody told a porky when they got to that last bit...

Volant, I’d watch a knitting and crochet one. It would be very calming.

I like the Interior Decorator one. It’s very wanky but oddly compelling. I’m always suspicious though of the timescales - you’d think every surface would be tacky with wet paint and yet they manage to move furniture and dress the rooms for the judging.

The pottery one was good for a bit, but probably ran its course.

Any other suggested themes while we’re drumming our fingers for the GBBO final?
